I love how Malcolm goes from Chief Whip Mode, assessing the personal life for a potential PR disaster, to being genuinely impressed with Nicola's joke.
I love the little smile on Malcolm's face at 0:24. It's rare to see him react to someone else's joke and he clearly grudgingly respects her for being able to lob it back at him.
Nope.
@Yep
Lets just pretend it wasn't Peter breaking character.
@@AVerySillySausage It obviously could be a break, but it's also entirely possible it's intentional. He barely loses control, it's a minor movement, but one that does convey something important. And the line he's reacting to isn't exactly laugh out loud funny, so for a season pro like Capaldi that's a surprising place to break.
@@wugglebee9522 Honestly, I've watched the show 3-4 times and it only now hit me Nicola might be joking. At the time I first watched, and with re-watches giving more context to her fucked up off screen family, the idea of her eldest daughter being a heroin addict involved with a Nigerian people smuggler struck me as at least plausible, given the actions of her younger one. "She's gone all raging bull", in the words of Glen.
@1:02 - You keep using the word safe like bloody Jim Bowen: "You got DoSAC, that's safe. Do you want to go for the Treasury young lady." 😂😂
Quaint. Imagine a politician who will openly tell you how many kids they've got.
Incredible comment
Also quaint: the idea that hypocrisy would actually be a serious PR issue for a gov't minister..
Or just......admits her daughter is doing heroione.
boris can't count up that far. that's a private school education for you...
I feel like it's way harder for women to fake the amount of children they have. Especially with 9 months leading up to the kid being born.
I love the little smirk Malcolm gives to Terri. She knows Nicola is in for a bollocking and just has to undermine her in front of Tucker
"The reason i didn't know about you and your children is 'cause you were so low down on the list of candidates for this job, i didn't even have the chance to look into it" #Burn#😂😂
If you take out the swearing I can see the Twelfth Doctor saying most of this
Which he, in essence, had already implied to Nicola a few minutes earlier calling her a "late-ish appointment" that didn't give him the time to "fuck the Is and fist the Ts". But Nicola didn't catch on, because of course she didn't, and so he has to say it so bluntly, it'll induce trauma.
He's right though and she misses his point. Malcolm doesn't care about her family, but the press and the Opposition does and in politics *nothing* is off limits.
Knife addled rape sheds king of the one liners and I can imagine real politics very similar to this show awesome
Bilal Khalid *Comprehensive schools*, in the UK “public” school counterintuitively means private!
@Bilal Khalid No, he's saying you misunderstand. Nicola here wants to send her kid to a school you have to pay fees to attend, which in the UK is referred to as a "public" school. But because of politics she has to send her kids to a comprehensive, which is a school paid for by taxes.
I forgot how much I loved this show when I was younger. Bloody brilliant.
Same xD
Younger? It gets better with age!
Absolutely savage! Never watched this when it was on tv but after seeing this i have to say the script writing is brilliant, so is the acting.
At the beginning of lockdown I binged the entire run on Netflix. Heartily recommend it - with or without societal existential threat
@@Lastielion
It’s on Netflix?
@@jamesvanitas It was a year ago! It always surprises me how everything comes and goes
I still feel sorry for Glenn and his stolen chair
I felt sorry for Glenn for much of the show. He seemed to be one of the few who kept his principles at all.
@@mobrien98 yeah, everybody mistreated him
I feel sorry for Johnny Vaughan 😄

The Big Breakfast analogy: Brutal, and brilliant.
knife addled rape sheds- pure poetry right there!
All those girls raped by grooming gangs...
Sort it or abort it lol brilliant
well it's not yes minister is it 😕
Season 3 was the best season of all of them!
Of The Big Breakfast or The Thick Of It?
Absolute GOLD, not Comedy GOLD just THIS IS HOW LIFE ACTUALLY IS GOLD.
He’s horrendous but he has a point.
“She’s not going to comprehensive.”
Why not? It’s good enough for everyone else
Like Diane Abbott who wants to abolish private schools yet sent her son to Dulwich College (I think)
philipeafroboy1 ironically same school as Nigel farage
If you could send your kids to a private school, you would.
@@hgwsavage well no if i could do something i'd abolish private schools and improve state schools. derp.
@@TheAlmightyAss Most people who send there kids to private school don't have the power to abolish them.
What I meant was right now private schools exist, most are better than state and if you had the money to send your kids to a private school, it makes complete sense to do so.
One of the best BBC lines any actor has ever said on set: "I didn't even have the chance (thankfully); to look into you."
The all swearing eye - lol
"Sort it or *ABORT* It!"
“Who is even going to know or care” is such an insane question to ask. It’s politics!! The other party has guys whose job it is to dig this up!
new French education minister just took charge last week with her 3 kids in a private school, creating a bit of a stir, made me think of this scene!
"the all swearing eye"....
0:23 Camera has to pan away before he breaks character and smiles
Well spotted. Pretty sure you can hear him laughing after as well.
I think Malcolm is actually laughing in this moment, especially since the joke from Nicola is particularly dark.
The thing is, as horrible as he is, she is breathtakingly naive and she needs the bollocking she gets. 'My family is off limits' umm you're a politician, see how long that lasts.
As soon as she says "eleven" Malcolm looks like a shark scenting blood.
0:20 can never tell whether that was sarcasm or not
Apparently this was taken word for word from a conversation between Alistair Campbell and Diane Abbot
@Wallace ...what?
a campbell to diane abbot , "how many chilfdren do you have ? abbott " 4 to 5 0r was it 12 err we are trying to
cut back errrm arrr thats it 2 yes 2 only do not ask how they got here "!.
Abbot doesn't have the brain capacity for such a witty sarcastic response.
@@AVerySillySausage fair point !. however no3 b/cell connected to a wayward finale 15th and a gargeled reply was had .
@TGSUPERCHARGED wont let me reply snowflake
Capaldi,, genius delivery, script unbelievable
Imagine if they cast nicolas kids in the school episode
I have been to both private and public schools and there is major difference trust me. Smaller classes for starters and stricter rules.
I only went to public school, Eton.
@@allwrighty100 Oh you mean the big one?
@01:25 the life draining away from Nicola
It’s Diane abbots story, only Nicola can remember numbers.
nicola probably also knows the difference between Ukraine and Croatia
Dianes kids also have violence/mental health issues ,all covered up because it only gets witnessed in their .. Foreign Office.. jobs.
Omg it's Tanya and Clive!
How many people in the US cabinet and congress would have kids who went to the best private high schools and Ivy League colleges (endowments) and yet no one gives a shit?
Most: they don't care though because it's a completely different country?
@@Dmitrisnikioff It actually has been a very contentious issue here in the US. Arguments about "school choice," diversion of funds from public coffers to charter schools, private religious education. Many a Democrat candidate has had to run the same family vs political PR calculus.
America has a right wing party (Democrats) and a very right wing party (Republicans). They really don't bother that much with socialism.
Its a shame Dr Who wasn't like this
Nahh they predicted the song
Jesus H. Corbett 😂
I am new to this show, can someone please explain to me what is going on and what the issues is over which school she sends her children too?
I believe, the government has been improving normal schools, as a result it looks bad if a ministser such as her chooses t osend her child to a private school instead.
You don’t have to be new to misunderstand
It's basically political suicide for the "party" Nicola is supposed to represent. They've never directly said this, but it's strongly implied in this series that Nicola/Malcolm etc... are all meant to be caricatures of the UK's Labour Party, who are a left-leaning "working class people's" party. For Nicola to send her child to a private school would say 2 things;
1. She's rich and out of touch with the average working class person, who is supposed to be her party's core voter.
2. Comprehensive (state) Schools aren't good enough, in other words admitting that her party are doing a shit job at education.
Malcolm is the party whip, and he knows how bad it would be for everyone involved to see a Minister send her kid to a private school, so he basically spends half this series creating blunders that force her to send her kid to State school to make up for her mistakes.
Throughout this show it is shown how incompetent, moraly corrupt and downright dumb many politicians are and Malcom is there to fix the messes they create. He is a vulgar, angry man, but always nice to working class people like his PA, Nurses etc. It is implied throughout the show, that he is a decent man and is fed up with the political BS that is happening and with what shit they can get away with. Later on we see the Torries, who are as incompetent, as moraly corrupt and as dumb as his party, which makes it even funnier. xD
Sadly the show can not be remade, since the modern politics have become so surreal, that it would be hard to make a satire out of it.
They should show this in high schools.
Magic !
She always reminded me of a fitter Theresa May 😂
Fitter implies Theresa May is fit in the first place
Nicola is basically a British Dr milfi-i mean dr.melfi
Not even close
I can imagine this being a conversation in Labour head office should they not manage to gaff away the election next month! 😂
Whats with the video quality? Grainy like its near radiation.
even the DVD's I have look 10 times better than this
Wait this was a comedy?
OK, this does not look like a comedy but looks very serious ... is it ?
Truly the best political /satirical series ever! Can you imagine the BBC in its current woke form commissioning this?
Sure. As a progressive, watered down pile of wank which tells us everything is fine while it's all burning down. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say wank, you bulldog faced, melancholic twatwaffle.
What I really I mean to say is [redacted due to excessive vulgarity which is unsanctioned under the public infancy act, and has been fined 25 ******* credits]
Yes.
Yes I can.
all the clips i've seen have been published recently.. so they're happy to show it again at the very least
I find it hilarious how you think this is the best political / satirical series ever, yet you're incapable of realising that this is the sort of clever left-wing comedy that knows how to find the balance between humour and "being-edge-for-the-sake-of-it" (i.e., anti-woke). I mean it was written by Armando Iannucci ffs - one of the "wokest" people there is.
Give her kidz masques and vaccine passports ...
i miss this show. Probably would be banned now.
I doubt it. It's blatantly anti-Tory.
@@EndOfSmallSanctuary97 but it’s politically incorrect, that’s the point
@@anglodoomer5995 South Park is way more controversial and offensive and that show hasn't been banned in 25 years.
@@EndOfSmallSanctuary97 It’s partly inspired by (and perhaps a critique of) Alastair Campbell, a SPAD and part of New Labour, so not just anti-Tory.
@@EndOfSmallSanctuary97 I'm not so sure it is. Peter Mannion when he appears, and who is obviously a Tory, is portrayed largely as a decent and principled man, caught up in a maelstrom created not least by his own advisers
How is this not literally abusive and suspend able behavior. Also she let's him run free. Who was writing her lines? Definitely can find a better way to get a few dopamine hits.
