But or Rent - The Book of Life - • The Book of Life
In the Mexican town of San Angel, Manolo (Diego Luna), Maria (Zoë Saldana) and Joaquin (Channing Tatum) have been friends ever since childhood. Although their lives have taken different paths -- Maria was sent to Europe, Joaquin joined the military, and Manolo studied to become a bullfighter -- one thing remains the same: Manolo and Joaquin both want to marry Maria. Little does the trio know that battling husband-and-wife deities have made a high-stakes wager on the love triangle's outcome.
Unpopular opinion, Charlie and the chocolate factory is my favorite version.
preach moneylover!
Mine too😊
Nah same it’s more book accurate as crazy as that seems
@@234cartmanrules i know
If I can combine the original Wonka and songs with the rest of this version, I’ll agree. Depp was good, but his portrayal of Wonka wasn’t my preferred version.
You don't have to apologize for being a good father. She's your world and it shows.❤
The reason Mike Teevee was updated is because Mike Teevee was not a cowboy lover in the book. In the book, he is a TV lover, same as in the book. In fact, Roald Dahl hated the 1971 version so much, he wanted no reboots in his lifetime. When Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was produced, Felicity Dahl, wanted this to be as true to the book as possible.
I've noticed he's the character who gets updated the most. It always matches what media is popular when the latest version comes out.
Book - Gangsters
1st Movie - Cowboys
2nd Movie /Musical - Video Games (and the latter also shows he has even more unsettling acts that aren't helping, like smoking. A tiny little detail for the musical is they name his game after one of the gangster's weapons in the book)
The 70s movie butchered nearly every character (Charlie especially)
This version is MUCH more like the book. Book aside, this is still my fav version. Just love Depp's role as Wonka. And the story overall flows better.
as others have said, this one is much closer to the original book than the "original" did, apparently the author hated that version as well
And this movie is NOT a remake of the 70s movie, it is another adaptation of the book that was made to be entirely separate from the old movie. But people still call it a remake.
Some curious trivia:
First, all the oompaloompas look the same because they are indeed one single actor. The actor did the scenes several times in diferent places and with different coreographies. In an interview he said it was the hardest role of his carrer and he won't do that again.
Second, the first time Willy crashes with the glass door was an accident, so Jonny Depp did it a second time to make it like it wasn't an accident. Both crashes weren't in the script.
Third and last, the part of Willy's father having newspaper cuts from all of his son's archivements is based on a real life event of Tim Burton. He and his mother didn't have a great relation since she didn't aprove of him becoming a movie director, so they spent years without speaking. One day Tim Burton gets the call that his mother is in the last stretch of her life, so he goes to visit her, and he was surprised to see posters of all the movies he directed in her room. Actually, all the plot of the relation of Willy and his father is based on Tim Burton and his mother's relation.
Geez, I hope the actor was paid like he deserved it for that.
And we all know that artists often put a little of them in their work
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is closer to the novel. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was it's own thing I believe.
It was it's own thing so much so Dahl didn't want anyone to do a reboot so his vision won't get ruined again.
Book - FMA manga
1971 - FMA 2003
2005 - Brotherhood
I know this the most random way of looking at it, but here we go
24:15 Don’t be sorry! Seeing you interact with your daughter lovingly and adding that family element to your videos could be helping someone ❤ she’s beautiful!
As usual, I want to point out that this is not a remake of the 1971 movie. It's a completely independent, and honestly much more faithful, adaptation of the book the 1971 movie was also based on (minus the dentist daddy issue bit).
People criticize Johnny Depp for his portrayal of Wonka, without realizing that it's a much more accurate portrayal of the character from the book, and that Gene Wilder's depiction is completely unfaithful to the character, to the point the original author absolutely hated the depiction of the character and forbad any further adaptation off any of his works, due to how much Gene's portrayal bastardized the character, which he called "sappy, sentimental and sachrinine".
Personally, I enjoy both adaptations for different reasons, I'd just wish that people would realize their mistake and wouldn't unfairly judge this movie for their own ignorance.
I just don't like it.
It's not a matter of fair,
it's personal preference.
@@aftonair I think they are speaking of those who compare it to the 70's version by calling this one wrong. You can not like it under its own merits, but some people just don't like it because it is different from the one they watched growing up.
Yeah exactly~
Exactly. One of my biggest pet peeves is people calling this movie, or other second adaptations of books, a remake.
Seeing comments like these make me feel better because so many people either don't understand this or choose not too
3:14 that’s because this is not a remake it’s just based on the same book and his dad was in the book.
Charlotte showing up to watch this with you is my favorite part of this reaction
So the Tim Burton actually goes closer to the book...vs the 70s one
to be honest Wonka would realistically be extremely antisocial in that big factory all day everyday, with only the oompa loobpa's as company
Exactly.
This was based on the original book, the first film making was made to be a musical
22:45 Charlotte
I read on Internet it's thanks to Johnny Depp if Freddie Highmore had the role of Charlie.
The two played before in " Finding Neverland " a movie about James M Barrie, the author of " Peter Pan " and he was so impressed by his performance that he talked to Tim Burton about him
I find Gene’s version much creepier than Johnny’s version! I love that he does these little things where the audience gets more than the other characters.
Johnny really shows his talent here!
Nawww your daughter trying to get as close to her daddy as possible ☺ bless her heart, what a sweety x
Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory: Charlie learns the lesson.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: Wonka learns the lesson.
This is my favorite version. It is more like the book down to the song lyrics and the designs of each character and settings.
The boat on the chocolate river looks exactly like the illustration.
I dont know what american gum is like, but Chewing Gum in the UK can last longer then that 😂 we chew until our set amount of time, and then spit it out. I have never met anyone dissolve chewing gum 😂
I have never read the book but THIS ONE IS MUCH CLOSER TO THE BOOK or so i have been told. I enjoy this movie a lot. It was a nice twist on the story.
That was said by Roald Dahl's widow herself
@@a.g.demada5263 ok.
@@entertainmentlife430 it's so sad Roald Dahl didn't live enough for seeing this movie. He was so upset by the first.
Did you know it was thanks to Johnny Depp if Freddie Highmore had Charlie's rôle ?
Gonna go off on a whim, but out of the two Chocolate Factory films, I far preferred this one, in nearly every way:
- More book accurate
- Better, more complete ending
- More interesting characterisation, especially the rotten kids (the original characters were really basic and flat)
- Mr Bucket exists (and this raises the stakes when he loses his job)
- Better grandparents (other 3 in the original might as well not have been in the movie)
- Buckets actually feel like a tight-knit family
- Great, high production value, making use of the 2005 tech
- Uniquely stylised, feels more like a whimsical world
- Excellent cinematography (compared to the dull execution of the first movie)
- Cool, grungy atmosphere
- Superb, outstanding sets
- Varied and catchy music (not the same copy-paste template)
- Wonka’s backstory
- Dahl hated the original movie (even said it was too sappy and saccharine)
- Crazy attention to detail (like Wonka’s pale skin and awkwardness from not going outside, the linguistically accurate Wonka bars, Augustus’s bars even have German writing, Violet’s panic chewing, Charlie savouring his food and wrappers etc.)
- Was clearly a passion project instead of a commercial pretending to be a movie
- Poetic in some areas (Charlie and Wonka parallels, Mike calling the Oompa Loompas “little freaks”, camera focused on Augustus when Wonka said not to get overexcited, followed by him dropping and stepping on his chocolate, Violet’s mother’s karma when she mocked Augustus fitting through the pipe etc.)
- Better at showing instead of telling, like flashbacks and small facial expressions and cues
I really like Depp’s work on this film as wonka he was weird and quirky 😂and the ending was super good
All of the different types of candy in the Charlie and the chocolate factory looks very delicious.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was one of my FAVORITE books when I was a kid! This is my favorite version, as it's MUCH more true to the book than the 70's version.
"I hate to break it to you, but those children are dead" - Leslie Higgins, Director of Football Operations for the Richmond AFC Greyhounds, in regards to the children who did not win.
17:30 I’m glad 😀 you chose the extended version of Charlie and the chocolate 🍫 factory 🏭
Aw she's precious! And you seem like such a good dad, I'm sure you and Jane are both doing so amazing with the girls! Hope that she got better quickly! Thank you for this🤗
I can speak from experience as a former green beret: in the movie where Wonka is in the jungle with the big bug, he wasn’t hesitating OR running he was positioning and timing so he only needs to strike once. In Vietnam being fast and silent was the only way to make it.
Charlotte is so stinkin adorable ❤❤
Aye I’ve been waiting for this one and you already know I got them notifications on.
Freddie Highmore is such a brilliant actor 👏 ❤
i wonder how you would react to 'Song of the sea' ...... it's pretty much very unknown and i loved it a lot when i saw it
Omg the charlotte cameo was so cute!
You keep calling Willy Wonka Charlie lol
I think chocolate bars are chocolate… candy for me is like Skittles , Now n Later, but M&Ms and Reese’s Pieces are candy too so im complicated!!! And yes from Bridge to Teribithia , one if the best but yes, TOO sad movies ever!
JV😊 U are a good daddy. Your little girl is getting big❤ she's going to be famous😊 hope she feels better soon🌷🎈
You know At that reunion with his father and how that movie gone so good, I was thinking of a good sound for those moments and the song I thought for it was, have you ever from the s club 7
you should do wonka starting Timothée Chalamet
wonka is better then the original with Gene Wilder
For the next interpretation of Willy Wonka, you will have fun watching the 2023 Wonka film. It was directed by Paul King (who also directed Paddington) and shows yet another heartfelt version of the comedy and whimsy of this famous inventor and chocolatier (make sure to have tissues).
In my opinion, the original Charlie bucket didn't seem at all interesting to the factory. Until that weird old guy came out and told him about it.
But Freddie Heimer's Charlie had clearly been interested in the factory for a while.
This one has clear passion for chocolate in general, and that means more with him winning whereas the first one wasn't all that interested and just happened to be a winner
11:03 that kid playing the game is you on your livestreams, JV!
Happy Easter yesterday
This movie is much better than the original tbh
"...that held these willy wonka people" 😂
What happened to Charlie's dad? So, apparently, in the original movie, Charlie's dad is dead. They wanted to make Willy Wonka a bit of a father figure for Charlie. But, the director for this movie didn't think Willy Wonka would be a very good dad. At least, that's how I understand it. Hopefully that helps.
If you have like 2 hours to spare, try and read the book, you'll see how much more faithfull to it this one is. The old one is very different. I prefere the Burton one by far. Have a nice week ;)
Love Charlie and the chocolate factory movie good work👍
21:03 they all just look the same in this version.
It's all Deep Roy
@@ashhabimran239 yep.
I have a very low opinion of Freddie Highmore (given all the ableism that was coughed up in The Good Doctor), but his Charlie was much sweeter and pure than Peter Ostrum's.
Don't know much about Good Doctor, but what are you talking about. I wanna know more
This version of Mike Teavee 📺 is a perfect example of what most kids are nowadays
This movie closely follows the book is dark tone of movie if you read the book the book is very dark tone this movie kinda follows the book
For some reason Grandpa George remind me of Roald Dahl the most
Love your reactions. If you feel inclined please watch The Secret Window starring Johnny depp. I think you would really love it.
I will ALWAYS prefer the original Gene Wilder version for the reasons you mentioned and much more! I love the focus on Charlie and the craze the Wonka ticket caused. The other movies seem to focus more on Wonka and this one has a darker tone, which is fine but the original will always be way better
“Original will always be better” is an often a ridiculous mindset, especially considering the “original” isn’t even the source. Could go on and on about why this movie is better
22:01 no we didn’t.
React Jack the Giant Slayer 2013
Another great movie that I don’t see a lot of reactions to is August Rush. Stars Freddy Highmore (Charlie) and Robin Williams. It’s very good.
wonka is the best movie out there versus versions in fact I like remake way better than the original one ☝️
don’t get me wrong 😑 but Charlie and the chocolate factory is a broadway musical as well 🏭

Gene Wilder expressed disdain for this film, but it should be noted that his relationship with his folks was totally different than that of this Willy Wonka.
Wonka 2023
YASSSS👏🏽👏🏽
The only issue I ever had with this movie is that all the kids and parents are white. I figured that in 2005, they could have had some diversity.
when did Don Lemmon get a reaction channel

I really don't care if this version is closer to the book, it is not even close to the original. I will admit i did enjoy the Christopher Lee scenes. Those were funny.
the book is the original
@@TheLoonyLovebad1 i meant the original film.
That's fair, The Wilder version is considered a classic in its own right and I hope no one judges people for liking it at all
From my experience people mention it's accuracy to the book more so to explain how in that aspect, the Depp version does what a Book tie-in movie should be doing more than the Wilder version did, not that it necessarily makes either film film bad or good purely because of that alone
This movie trumps the "original" in nearly every way. The only reason the first movie is popular is because of nostalgia and it being considered a cLaSsiC (that doesn't even make it better anyway). That also shields that movie from criticism despite its several glaring flaws. It's baffling considering that movie was a disposable, corporate commercial that failed to promote a chocolate bar, and was was poorly received for its time, but it gets favoured over a clear passion project that actually had effort put into it because everyone mistakes it for the source material (the book which was disrespected by Wilder's movie)
@@ashhabimran239 it is quite a shame, but no one ever takes those events into account
but I really chocolate this much 💕🍫
This adaptation is superior to the 70s one. More book accurate, didn’t butcher the story or characters, and i think Roald Dahl would have enjoyed it (he hated the older one).
Charlotte hanging out is always A-OK with me

EARLY WOOOOOOO
This movie is weird to me because it feels like despite the title Willy Wonka is the main character throughout much of it, which is oddly something I heard Roald Dahl disliked about the original as he felt too much focus was on Wonka. This movie is typically seen as more faithful to the source material but the whole storyline with Willy Wonka’s father doesn’t exist in the books which makes sense as I personally didn’t really enjoy hearing about his daddy issues.
I think that subplot was more based on Tim Burton's relationship with his own mother.

I hate this version. I've read the books (Chocolate Factory and Great Glass Elevator) and am so tired of people saying this one is more accurate, when it's just not (even if Dahl's estate approved it, which I honestly don't get). There is SO much added material here that has nothing to do with the book -- Wonka's awful backstory, and especially the writing for Wonka (compounded by Depp's terrible acting choices). For me, this is one of Depp's rare misfires -- his Wonka has nothing to do with the Willy of the books. There is no joy, no charm, no mischief, he hates people, children, families, etc., and he doesn't even like candy!
I do think Charlie and Grandpa Joe are wonderfully cast, and I loved that Mr. Bucket was in the story as in the book. But honestly, it's not enough. I hated this movie and still think the Wilder version is pretty much perfect (even with the Fizzy Lifting Drinks) -- Gene Wilder had the sparkle and wit that Depp's awful Wonka completely lacks.
I agree, I feel like the first film had that childlike wonder and this film doesn’t. I know Tim Burton is unique and his style is different but I really like the first films vibe.
Tell you didn't read the book without telling me you didn't read the book. The backstory is the only thing not in the book but that's it, that not "SO much added material" like you claim. Wonka was never joyful, clearly let the other kids and parents suffer (in both movies). Doesn't like candy? You're just making stuff up at this point. And you consider the Wilder movie perfect despite ranting about the other movie not being accurate to the book and flat out disrespecting it in many areas?
This movie lacks the charm of the original.
It's creepy and off-putting.
The new one is truer to the spirit of the original film and Mr. Gene Wilder.
But have you read this book though? This one has the charm of the book and the original film lacks the charm of the book
