      True. You certainly get a lot of bang for your buck with these. When compared to the competition, which can easily cost $200+ more for a pair, there really isn't much difference in terms of sound quality. if you're on a tight budget, then the price will always be the deciding factor. :)

    I have ordered the LP8 2nd wave yesterday for a room size between small and midrange. Usually I would have gone for the 6 inch drivers, but the 8 inch has a little more deep end to it. Reason is, I do not want to use a subwoofer. Therefore I am taking advantage of the dip switches at the back, to alter possible acoustic deviations. I'm curious how they are going to sound. I willlkisten to some music I know for several years, just to make up a comparison, between "then and now". 😊 Thank you for a great video. Gave it a thumbs up!!

    Great video. How do they compare to the ADAM T7V/T8V?

    • @FireWalkMusic
      @FireWalkMusic  Год назад +2

      It's comparable to the T8V in terms of specifications and size. The entry-level segment is very popular, and all the manufacturers have very similar models that compete for the same customers.
      The main difference between the two is that the T8V has a ribbon tweeter, while the LP-8 has a traditional dome tweeter. We all have very different hearing, and people seem to have a love/hate relationship with ribbon tweeters. Some simply love them and others can't stand them. I guess it's down to personal taste. I have the A7V's now as you know, and I love the clarity they offer. That said, the more expensive ribbon tweeter in the A7V does sound more controlled and smoother than the one in the T series.
      The LP-8 has a really robust magnet for the main woofer, as you can see in the video, and this gives it a very robust low-end. Between those two I think the T8V provides more detail up top, but the LP-8 seems to have more presence and sound more controlled in the low-end. They are both entry-level monitors so they're both going to suffer from the same compromises related to build quality in order to drive down the price.
      The T8V has internal bracing, while the LP-8 does not. The T8V has a more expensive ribbon tweeter, but the LP-8 has a seemingly overengineered bass driver which gives a very controlled and solid low-end. It's hard to pick a favorite. It's like apples and oranges.. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. As with the HS8, there are just subtle nuances that separate them, so the best thing would be to listen to them for yourself and then make up your mind. :)

    I don't understand how monitors are classified as flat yet they all sound different, technology that doesn't make them flat so you'll get a different result on each of them or any source in that matter.
    Going by this comparison between the LP and the HS which one would give the better end result ?
    There was a little different I'm just wondering if u took the mix to a HiFi unit which one would sound better.
    I guess just like with any speakers you'll have to get to no them.
    Great vid and subbed 👍

    Aren't Yamaha HS8s in the same range? How are the Kalis compared to those?
    Edit: Have reached the end of the video, thanks for the exact comparison lmao

    • @FireWalkMusic
      @FireWalkMusic  Год назад +4

      The HS8 is very similar to the LP-8. They're both 8" two way monitors with fairly similar specs. The HS8 does have a larger amplifier though, and more traditional controls on the back However, they're also more expensive, and at the end of the day there isn't really a huge difference between how they sound. The LP-8 do have the EQ boundary system though, which comes in quite handy and makes it easy to compensate for different room acoustics. The LP-8 is also front ported, which means that they're not so picky about placement. You can have them closer to the rear wall than the HS8, which is rear ported. When taking the price difference into account, it's pretty clear that the LP-8 provides more value for the money overall.
      Even when disregarding the price difference, people will probably never agree on what sounds best. This is the case with all monitors. We all have surprisingly different hearing, so people will always have different preferences. I always recommend that you listen to different monitors before deciding. :)

    Hey Firewalk, I have a nuanced question for you if you don't mind. After watching this video, it's hard to not want to immediately purchase these monitors, but I am currently operating on a Sony surround sound system that I acquired for free second-hand and already sounds pretty good to my ears. Do you think it would still be a worth investment while I'm still getting started as a producer or should I invest in other things? Thanks ahead of time

    • @FireWalkMusic
      @FireWalkMusic  Год назад +1

      Hi Chris, I always recommend using dedicated studio monitors for music production and mixing. A surround system or any HIFI system for that matter will always color the sound, and you're not hearing it as it is. Nothing is more annoying than spending countless hours making something sound really great on your surround system, but then when you listen to it somewhere else, or in the car later, it sounds completely different, and you have to go back and make changes.
      One of the most important aspects of a studio monitor is that it'll give you a flat and neutral frequency response, which allows you to hear the mix the way it actually is. A mix made to sound good on dedicated studio monitors will usually sound good on most systems. It just makes the process so much easier. That's why I always encourage people, and especially beginners to mix on studio monitors because it's much easier to get a good-sounding mix that way. Even dedicated studio headphones have their drawbacks. Studio monitors are by far the easiest to mix on in my opinion.
      I've had clients that struggle with muddy mixes for years, and once they switched to studio monitors it was like their foot went off the brake pedal.
      The LP-6 and LP-8 are one of the most affordable 6,5 and 8" monitors you can get right now. The larger 8" monitors will give you more bass, which makes it easier to mix low-end. However, they're not ideal for very small rooms, so if you have a tiny room then I recommend the LP-6 instead.
      A good set of studio monitors are crucial for any studio in my opinion. A seasoned mix engineer with 20 years of experience could probably make a decent mix on just about anything because he or she would know exactly how things translate to various speakers. For the average "bedroom producer" on the other hand, accurate monitoring is key to getting good sounding mixes. :)

    • @FireWalkMusic
      @FireWalkMusic  Год назад +1

      @Chris Florez you're welcome! Hopefully, your mixing will improve with a pair of dedicated studio monitors at your disposal. It's certainly easier to progress when you hear it like it actually is. I think a majority of people, and especially beginners are struggling because they mix exclusively on headphones, or cheap hifi or Bluetooth speakers, etc, so they mix based on faulty information. The first step is neutrality. You can't make it better if you're not hearing it like it really is. 🙂

      I haven't tried those myself so I wouldn't know, but I'm sure they're good :) Personally, I always prefer slightly larger monitors with better low-end extension over subwoofers. It just feels more natural to me. I have a 12" subwoofer myself, but I almost never use it. It's so difficult to know if you have it balanced 100% right with regard to the room and its placement in it. There will easily be too much or too little low-end during monitoring when using a subwoofer. There are also issues related to placement and reflections and such.
      Ideally, I'd prefer a 3-way 8" monitor, but those are quite expensive and out of reach for most people. :)
