    I live in Grimethorpe and did this to Dunford Bridge last week, it was a steady ride, going from Worsbrough to over Silkstone Tunnel was a steady incline , it was a nice ride and in total it was a 50 mile round trip.. will do it again

    this awesome. I was wonder if I should go gravel bike or keep to roads biking. I think I am going to gravel bike after a couple of your videos theres so much more to see than just traffic. and my commutes to work will be more comfy lol. well done on the videos good advice and tips and good clear video. I near manvers way so not long till I can get to these trials.

      I think it is always great to be able to experience cycling in different ways, so if your a roadie then off road can be a great experience and vice versa. To see if you would like the whole off road thing maybe hire a hardtail mountain or trail bike first, so you can have a day out on the trails. Like you mentioned a gravel/adventure bike can make for a more interesting commute. Cheers for the comments Steve.

    Really helpful videos. Good mix of advice , maps and also a good way to gauge track surfaces. I hope to tackle bits of the TPT this summer, but I am likely to be panniered up with kit, so don't want to shake it to bits!

      Hi Peter, are you going to start out at Southport and work your way across the country or make a base somewhere in the middle and ride select parts of the Trans Pennine trail, or are you still undecided?

    • @peterhodd5182
      @peterhodd5182 7 лет назад +1

      Undecided. Could start from Liverpool or Warrington, straightforward from London by train. Will either end up at York or Doncaster for the same reason. But your videos have now made me consider starting from Derby so I can play on the Peak bike trails before heading via Glossop and then up Longdendale! Looks better than the lancashire stretches of the TPT.
      Have you found any decent routes from Matlock to Glossop that avoid the worst of the A roads? I am an experienced cyclist (Lon Las Cymru) but I am allergic to Trunk road traffic!

      Matlock to Glossop isn't a route I have planned before but take a look at this app. I set it to quietest to keep off anything too busy. routes.bikehub.co.uk/journey/56768368/#quietest

      That's a good site. I also like cycle.travel which lets you click anywhere to link to streetview or geograph.org for photos of any off road bits. Not as helpful as your videos though!

      Ended up doing Selby to Glossop on the TPT following your tips. I used Sustrans 68 with a few improvisations to Whaley Bridge and Buxton whichmade an excellent day back to Matlock with the HPT. 3 great days riding in lovely Yorkshire and Derbyshire sunshine! Thanks for all the tips

    Just letting you know that the section from Silkstone to Worsbrough (or vice versa) as now received funding and will all be paved, once the current virus situation is under control.

    My commute is finkle street to penistone and that brief video footage of the 'paved'/ surfaced section around oxspring almost looks unrecognisable! :-) as in it's so pristine! ...#FYI, I think a chest/body harness for your camera might be steadier than the handlebar mount...ymmv

    Have you every rode the Wakefield wheel ?
    That would make a good ride to film.

      Hi Clobber 66, no we haven't yet ridden the Wakefield wheel, parts of it are on the Old Moor to Heath video I believe, but it and the Wonders of Wakefield are on our to film list, thanks for the suggestion!

      We managed to get out and ride "The Wonders of Wakefield" on June 18, so look forward to that video at a later date. We will also look at the full wakefield wheel in the near future. Cheers Steve

    Blimey, some of those road stretches near the beginning look about as well maintained as Sussex, Ouch.

      Generally you need to find a suitable camp site or someone willing to let you pitch on their property.
