I remember not more than three weeks ago, I asked one of my good friends to come to my home and share some high quality Korean woojeon green tea that I had brought back from the country a month prior. I set out 10g of it and brewed it in a hand-made Korean teapot of 300ml using the gong fu style. I set out some light snacks like walnuts and almonds and we drank for 2 hours. We had approximately 2 litres worth of gorgeous green tea and throughout the experience we felt more and more giggly. We discussed our lives, our pasts and our hopes in a delightfully light hearted and joyful way, springing to random laughter. It was a beautiful and sweet bonding experience, and ever since then I've felt a stronger connection with that friend. Safe to say, being tea drunk was a wonderful experience.
I've had similar experiences with a 12 year old pu-erh and then once before that when I decided to have two chawan fulls of high quality matcha, both on my own. However I still love that shared experience with my friend. It was the first time he had ever tried proper loose leaf tea and I think I sparked a love for them in him!
My brother and I accidentally stumbled in to tea drunkenness one fine afternoon when we happened upon a local tea room. We ordered several pots of different kinds of tea, enjoyed deep conversations and silly happiness, had trouble stumbling around, and were pleasantly surprised this is a thing. It was really the last "childhood" bro-to-bro bonding we had before college, etc, and the tea room closed soon after. It was in rural Northern CA where nobody knows much about tea and there are no tea rooms. Ever since then we're fond of explaining to people that it's possible to get "tea drunk" (never heard another person call it that til just now), and it's a very fond memory. It's honestly among the more positive, memorable experiences of my entire upbringing. Thank you for explaining more about it!!!
Since I dont drink alcohol, I find my buzz in matcha. Gives me the nice, laid back "chillout" feeling. And the best part is that it completely wipes away my anxiety. So to all of you that are struggeling with anxiety, i suggest you try out some matcha. It might help take away the anxiety :)
a couple of months ago i tried tea and felt some drunkness, since then i have been caught up with its properties, I am really glad I found this video, I love how you passionately talk about it! congrats
This was definitely the most logical and scientific video I've seen on tea drunkenness so far. Digging into some of the literature, it appears that catechin concentrations peak at around 2 hours after tea consumption according to Pietta et al. (1998). Both from personal experience and other accounts, the psychoactive effects from tea appear to peak much sooner. I believe this and the low bioavailability and low stability of catechins (somewhere around ~1% of the ingested dose being available according to Chow et al. 2001) makes catechins an unlikely source of tea drunkenness. Interestingly, a study done on the concentrations of catechins and amino acids in white tea found that gallic acid increases in concentration with age while caffeine and catechins decreased in concentration with age. Catechin gallate concentrations in white tea appear to peak when they're fresh, while three year old white tea had the lowest concentration and 20-year old tea had a substantial concentration, but not as much as the fresh tea (Ning et al. 2016). Even more interestingly, Gong Mei white tea had the highest theanine and overall amino acid concentration compared to Shou Mei, Baihao Yinzhen, and Bai Mudan; a very interesting result. With this in mind, I would tend to think that Gong Mei might be more promising as a candidate for aging compared to tippier Baihao Yinzhen and Bai Mudan if the goal is to produce an aged tea with maximum psychoactive properties, even if I can't really use available scientific literature to explain why Gong Mei would be more psychoactive as an aged tea rather than a young tea in the first place. With regards to arguably the most promising potential psychoactive compound, theanine, I wasn't able to find much with regards to psychoactive properties. Neglecting this, the time lag between ingestion and the initial feeling of the psychoactive effects lines up fairly well with a study by Scheid et al (2012), as the time between ingestion and maximum concentration of L-theanine was determined to be 48 minutes. It would be interesting to conduct an informal experiment to cross-reference the time of maximum psychoactive effect with this maximum L-theanine concentration timepoint.
The first time I felt the sensation of tea Drunkness was at the Northwest Tea Festival a few years back. It was my first time, I was vastly underprepared for the amount of tea samples and walking I would be doing. I didnt bring any food, I was sampling teas from various vendors and about an hour in, I felt a headrush, my body relaxed yet I still felt alert, almost a bit loopy and a touch nauseous, since I have been drinking caffeinated teas on an empty stomach. The following years I went, I was more prepared: I brought crackers and jerky, took rest periods between rows of samples and vendors. Everyone in awhile though, I try to get tea drunk at home.
I am allergic to alcohol so I cannot get drunk if I wished, but with tea, that would be an experience. I've only just got me first gungfu tea set as a gift, and had me first gungfu Oolong tea tonight, and it was the best tea I've had drank ever since. Now after watching this, I have to get Tea drunk !! I'm on a mission to find that white aged tea. 😊
Once I visited a city in Brazil and the nice people from there called a funny man with a wizard hat that made me a Mushroom tea that mad me *super* high. Besides that tea no other tea have ever made me high or drunk. Maybe it only works if you don't drink tea that often.
The most tea drunk I've ever felt was from an aged, cooked Pu Erh I used to buy. If I re-infused it a lot I'd notice a heady, spacial perception-change effect coming on, which totally took me by surprise. It was definitely a different experience to younger teas I'd tried, and didn't feel like the effect of the oft mentioned caffeine , theanine etc. I wonder what compounds cause this effect.
I've always been more of a tea person than a coffee person, but it wasn't until recently that I started getting serious about tea. Your videos are a great beginning into what I feel will be a great lifelong journey. As for being tea drunk, I think the closest thing for me was drinking a lot of the green / black teas that I have, just trying to get a handle of the taste. Into about my fourth cup, I was beginning to feel particularly jittery, almost hitting a caffeine type of high. It was a very pleasant feeling, almost euphoric, almost to the point where I could just sit around and feel good. Thanks for the awesome channel! I've been able to learn a lot more from just a few of your videos than I have been from aimlessly buying teas that smelled nice. It'd be cool to one day meet you and have some tea in person!
That is a great feeling to sit and feel that all is fine and is probably more a theanine high. Thanks for watching and enjoy the endless journey into tea. If you are ever in London then come and say hi!
Thank you for this demonstration. While I've definitely felt the effects of cha Zui, I didn't know which tea qualities were causing this. I first felt the effects of Cha Zui at a tea shop that opened near my home. I found that the tea I I drank took me to a whole new level of depth and intensity in the conversations I had with my friends. There where I completely lost track of time and what felt like an hour long conversation was actually 8 hours or more. It made me understand more why zen temples have a tea hour. Unfortunately, here in the west, great tea is not readily available unless you look for it specifically. My experience at the tea shop has peaked my interest in the mystery of tea. It is an ancient and amazing tradition.
Hello guys, I usually drink aged Pu’er tea and sometimes oolongs or Teh gwan yin teas as I’ve been told that older folk shouldn’t drink sheng or raw teas or green teas. So last Sunday I came to visit at Mei-Leaf, met Celine and was fortunate to try the Pendulum Meddler and was blown away. I was so agitated by the tea that I couldn’t sit still and had real difficulty in deciding to buy all that was available in the shop that Sunday because i could not focus my thoughts. It’s the first time I’ve felt “high” on tea and I’m really glad that I decided to buy the tong plus the single cake of the Pendulum Meddler. I’m now back in Singapore getting high on it and enjoying every moment. Thanks again for all the work in putting together this fabulous tea blend.
First when I tried pu erh,I was so sweat in the first 30 min, I drank like 700 ml in a gong fu style and I was just running around my room,a bit dizy as well and I just told everybody how I felt,I was laughing!. Actually it makes you happy really does,so powerfull haha,is great to get tea drunk!
First time for me was having an aged Sheng PuErh. 4th steeping when the flavor fully opened and after a cup my head just felt like it was being inflated and got a huge smile. Sat around drinking and talking with my brother for hours, perfect
I get the happy tea feeling from a white tea at my local teahouse. It's called Bai Mu Dan. The cultivar looks like one bud and one leaf combos. It does have a slight honey note to the flavor. Love it.
I'm an experimental psychologist, so I love it when you video these comparisons; not very scientific, but great fun. I'm a bit long in the tooth to be truly motivated about getting high on anything, but as a novice pilgrim I am open to all new flavors and experiences on my tea journey.
Not scientific at all but there is a lot of strong anecdotal and historical evidence for getting tea drunk! We are trying to work with various experts to uncover more of the science behind Cha Zui!
OK, I got a little loopy on Young Gushu this morning, so while I'm waiting on the scientific evidence, and I acknowledge this may be a placebo effect, I am personally convinced.
I always feel a bit tea 'high' whenever drink proper matcha, and wish for more. I'd love to get tea drunk anytime over alcohol drunk. Love your videos!! 🍵
Ur channel has blown my mind, tea drinking Brit all my life but didn't known there was such vast world of tea, can u believe I haven't even tried matcha yet just red abt it and found this, your the tea guru
Hi Don and Celine! I've been binge watching your videos for a week and I'm hooked! I have a small tea house in mexico and I learned a lot watching you. I've been tea drunk a few times and it's amazing, sometimes I get a little bit dizzy and sometimes It's more of a relaxing experience. Thanks for making this videos and share your knowledge and passion for tea. Cyn.
I'd prefer to win this to share with my father, he's managed 6 months sober, and I reckon an afternoon of this would be what he needs, plus a great opportunity to bond, something we've not really been able to do before this year for that reason.
I have to agree that minerality is key to having a pleasant tea drunk feeling. My best experience was with a lao shu, which had a very animal and countryside like flavour to it at first, but then it started to release a lot of stoney, earthy and mineral flavour. One of the best teas I've tasted.
I remember the first time a friend and I got tea drunk. this was before we actually knew what it was and what we were doing. We ended up being super giggly and were laughing at the most random things
The first time I had gotten tea drunk was at a Tea Tent at a music festival. I had lost my voice and i figured drinking endless cups of pu erh would help my throat but instead i ended up feeling energized with a heightened sense of awareness about 45 minutes in haha. Best first experience ever!
I experienced tea high first time few days ago after buying organic Gyokuro (Gyokuro Tokiwa). After many strong brews I felt like being a bit high. I was like "what is this, Im high on tea?" and had to google it. Im kinda new to teas. Here in scandinavia/northern europe theres not so strong tea culture. "Tea" means basicly putting some supermarket teabag into boiling water. But I got excited about teas when decided to quit daily coffee consumption. Now here I am, learning, buying my first kyusu soon. Started from Japanese teas and slowly getting into chinese ones too. World and spirit of tea has really captured my attention and passion! Gotta try some of these teas! Thank you for this channel. Ill sure buy something from your online shop to support your tea journey!
its odd, in theory oolong shouldnt work, but ive found it extremely effective for getting tea drunk, it has an amazing flavor too. it makes me feel super calm, green tea doesnt quite do it for me, but oolong and puerh teas seem to make me really relaxed and happy
On the weekends, when I have the house to myself, I like to sit down with the tea table before breakfast and do a long session in front of the open balcony door. It allows me to hear the sounds from outside, and it's usually a very nice time. Today I received a cake of 2011 Jing Gu raw pu erh from Yunnan Sourcing. I sat down with the tea table, and three cups of that out of my 100 ml gaiwan sent me flying.
Hi guys, you have been magnificent in giving me lots of new information, while i am a pharmacist, i have been taught something new, i love to get tea drunk and hopefully to get a sample, michael
You weren’t in the store on the day but I got tea drunk at Mei leaf Teahouse!!! I was getting tea drunk on your white peony!! It was amazing I was literally so in my own world this amazing energy in me this overwhelming joy and zen within me.
Well, I have had the honor to also have a share virtual Tea sessions with Don, Young Gushu and White Tea "Jade Star", and OH MY!!! I can assure not only those teas are powerful, but the most complex and nicest teas I have had so far. I felt instantly in LOVE with them!!! So Don, when we're going to distantly get 'drunk' again! Bright blessings and hugs to all at Chinalife from Puerto Rico!
I've been drinking tea for years, blacks mainly, and never got tea drunk until a couple of months ago. I was having a beautiful silver tip mao feng while looking at the drawings of the great Indian artist Nasreen Mohamedi. They're abstract and look like they're happening in outer space. I drank more than I usually do and somehow convinced myself that I could do something equally amazing. I dug out my art supplies and realized, inside of half an hour, that it wasn't going to happen. What I couldn't understand, hours later, was why I ever thought I could.
Hahahaha we love this story and that tea pushed you to make art - remember the result of the art is one thing but the act of being creative is good for you! So get out those paints and charcoals and don't worry about the judging them but enjoy the process!
I love trying new experiences and my friend told me about this and I've just been so intrigued about the feeling of tea drunkness and the science of tea drunkness
Tea Heads!! Haha I’m in Australia and I’m definitely keen to get “tea drunk”. I’ve just ordered a 2017 aged white tea cake. White Peony from the Fu-Ding area! So I’m excited 😆
hi Don, i often get tea drunk from moroccan tea.. it has a basis of chinese green tea and is served with mint leaves. we moroccans love our tea and drink it everyday and thanks to your channel I know more about our tea and tea in general... I was wondering if you ever tried moroccan tea and if you would like to drink it in one of your videos. they we brew it is almost similar to chinese way of making tea. love your videos thanks
Brewing tea the morrocan way is the quite opposite of high quality tea IMO. I get to drink it quite often when we visit my parents in law or friends. The tea itsself is very low quality gunpowder tea and they boil it on the stove for several minutes - the bitterness of the tea is then masked by loads of sugar. If you learn about how to make high quality and palatable green tea, you know that tea brewed the morroccan way is quite the opposite.
Never though that it was possible to get high off tea, would like to experience it. I am quite open minded when it comes to drugs, though I mostly use cannabis. It would be interesting to see how these two would mix and see if they have any synergy. I got into teas a while back when my father ordered some black teas from the UK, and I decided to give them a try. Can say that I was quite pleased, and as time passed we started ordering more different teas and expanding our collection. I've been a silent subscriber for quite a while now, really enjoying your videos and learning a lot of new things, keep up the good work. Greetings from Serbia.
Thanks Ler. The Synergy and history between tea and cannabis is quite strong actually. They share terpenes that enhance effects so they work very well together.
th jade star just arrived. And my goodness, it is amazing!! I can't stop brewing it... I'm getting so creative!! I can't stop writing and writing more and more music :D
+Matthias Hübner great we are so happy you managed to get one! Last few in stock before Jade Star goes into retirement but we are searching for a successor. Fabulous that music is being inspired by this tea!
This past summer I visited a tea house in China and had the opportunity to taste a raw pu-er for the first time. After many cups of a variety of teas including the pu-er, I got up to walk around and the sensation felt very similar to being tipsy on alcohol. I of course bought some of that pu-er, and I'm excited to try it again!
NOOOO I missed this video over the summer! That aged white tea looks amazing! On a side note, I picked up the 2016 Gu Shu and it is absolutely fantastic. Watch his other tea drunk video from 2015! At first I thought he might be over hyping it, but that video is an excellent description of the tea. Upon opening the bag I could smell the scent of fresh apples. The flavor is absolutely amazing and if the best tea you have ever had is currently something from Teavana, any product from this company will blow your mind. Try the Young Gu Shu or the yellow tea (Amber Mountain).
Sounds amazing! Love when you say what is and is not science based. Great video. I have been tea drunk on hand tied jasmine green and it was a perfect social activity. No phones, no TV, yes tea!
I would love to experience such an amazing tea. The first time I got tea drunk, I was drinking Pu-erh, and suddenly felt it. To be honest with you I wasn't sure what was going on, so I went to google, and that's how I found your videos, so I've been a subscriber ever since. While this is a nice feeling and unique effect, my favorite thing about tea is the unique flavors, the ancient history, and the processes that are required to create each type of tea, giving it its own unique flavor. Love the videos!
Love the fact that you found us by googling tea drunk! Of course there are so many things to enjoy about tea - flavour, history, skill, brewing, healthy! We wanted to make sure that we added the tea drunk feelings to the list though!
Yes Shaun, come and say hi whenever you fancy a little tea drunkeness! We have Jade Star and Young Gushu in stock which is close to the teas in this video.
Recently I gave up tobacco and alcohol so this video was very interesting to watch! Might have to give this a try! Also I want you to know that stumbling across your videos a few days ago got me very excited about tea- I found a local tea shop today and have been copying some of your methods with a gunpowder green tea this evening. I also have a big shipment of teas coming in from Yunnan Province- can't wait to enjoy them while I watch the rest of your Tea Masterclass playlist. The energy and passion you two bring to the videos is very inspiring!
I'm very curious to try aged white tea. I have had nice effects from drinking matcha, it was like a mix of calmness and a very alert state, very interesting.
I purchased some of your Young Gushu for the very purpose of getting tea drunk. It worked and I found it to be a "happy, entergetic drunk." I'd like to try the Bai Mu Dan so I could compare the two and compare it to the "experiences" from the 70s. I would consider documenting the experience if I can find someone to film it. Which, of course, I would regret immediately.
I recently bought a gorgeous bonsai pot made of Yixing clay. Next thing I know, I want a Yixing tea pot just because they're beautiful. My tea ignorance lead me to discover Mei Leaf on RUclips. Today I brewed my first ever loose leaf Oolong tea following your excellent video instructions. It was so delicious, I drank a quart of it just before watching this fun Tea Drunk episode. I'm Tea Happy, if not Tea Drunk. I would really like to buy one of your sampler packs.
I've never ever been drunk in my entire life. I've been sleep drunk once and that was quite funny. So I'd like to see if Tea Drunk is as much fun as that. And if being drunk is as much fun as people say without the hangover! I am a real tea lover but your You Tube channel makes me feel I becoming more and more of an expert. Thank you for sharing and I am definitely spreading the word and trying to convince everyone that being a Tea Head is fantastic! Keep up the good work. Looking forward to see more videos!
I started to drink raw puerh to this vid, paused it when you timelapsed. Drunk some more tea and meditated came back as "drunk" as you guys it was eally funny xD I always drink tea to your videos, Thanks for keeping me entertained and and teaching me about tea at the same time. Keep drinking the good stuff :D
It's funny that I just stumbled across this video - I bought a 7-yr old Lao Bai Cha cake in China 2 years ago, and I hadn't tasted it in 7 or 8 months, so I just had it the other day. Great longevity, and it left me feeling quite tea drunk. Cheers!
Loved this! Missed the contest but subscribing anyway. Lots of good info. Now I'll have to break into my tea stash and try. Also 25 cups in 40 min? DAaaaang.
Seriously you helped me out with this video, I was a bit hungry, and I had a year of the goat cake ready, my wife likes that it warms her up, I took my tetsubin and had a good long tea session with my dedicated yixing pot so we got the full wrath of the tea, I washed up and started cooking my meal, I felt dizzy and lightheaded and shaky, I felt like I was going to faint, and after I ate my meal I started feeling better, now that you told that it lowers blood sugar, problem solved, I got so scared that I wanted to go to my gp.
In winter time I noticed that fermented teas, and more oxidized teas, and roasted oolongs make me feel better, if I drink green tea in winter time it makes me feel cold. According to traditional chinese medicine green tea is yin, cold in nature, as it ages and gets roasted in can get into neutral, and even yang in character.
It is so enjoyable to watch your videos. Everyone ought to have something that gives them so much joy. Thanks for sharing your experiences and knowledge with us.
I really want to get to London sometime just to go to Camden to see your shop! I'm sure that you've already picked out the winner of the 10 grams since this was from August, I hope I may win the newest posting you have from this week about the Beijing Tea Market! I'll have to check my tea collection (I got pretty heavy on the puehr but my tastes went more toward the cooked varieties) and see where I can go to this evening with my Gong Fu Guru tea set and some hot water. Thanks Don and Celine!
Last time I was tea drunk was a couple of weeks ago when my wife left for a small road trip to Seattle at 4am, and I decided it would have been a good idea to start working from home at that time. I was tea drunk from that morning all the way until I was going to bed that night, and I woke up feeling like the day prior was a psychedelic dream!
I felt this way when I made green tea. Then used the green tea instead of water to blend a High grade matcha. It was delicious but I did know the feeling was called tea drunk. My family still likes me to make it for them.
Greetings from New Mexico! I've tried to get tea drunk quite often primarily while drinking raw green puerhs but haven't experienced a white puerh yet . This made me very curious. Love the videos , best tea channel on RUclips .
I have gotten slightly tea drunk from drinking higher-grade Gyokuro (which is still by far my favourite type of tea), and from GuShu Pu-Erh, notably from a 2015 NaKa, the 10 years older version of which has been said to have weed-like effects. An unknown purple Ye Sheng Pu-Erh has also had strange effects on me. I find that tea-drunkedness shows itself best in a heated conversation with a friend in a teahouse. Which reminds me that I'm moving to London soon and I can't wait to visit your teahouse!
Yes, sitting and talking over tea accentuates things rather than drinking by yourself. FB msg us when you are planning on coming and maybe Don can share some tea with you.
Great that you came by and sampled that Jade Star high! The Mi Lan is a lovely, fruity little number and a great starting point for Oolong exploration as this is one of the original oolongs.
Oh my gosh!!! I am new to tea drinking, for real! I am trying teas, to detox and to be healthier. I started watching my first video -from your RUclips videos and have become completely enthralled!! I just love watching each and every one of your exciting and very intellectually educating videos!!!! So very educational -for certain! Omg! I just can’t get enough info from you!!! Wow! I’m truly psyched to have stumbled onto your site! You two are also so darn cute!!! I’m soon to be 57 and am trying very hard to help myself feel better and relax more. I’ve been through 3 Cervical spine surgeries and have been trying to detox the chemicals from my body (from anesthesia and pain meds and anti/inflammatory meds) Hence, my quest for research on detoxifying with teas. I know you mr free give-away is over (sadly), by now. BUT... if ever you were to offer it again, I would love to be fortunate enough to be a chosen recipient of some of your aged white tea. I would love to introduce it to myself as well as to some of my female friends, to get tea drunk instead of wine drink. 😊 Please consider me, if you donever offer this again, Don and Celine. I am truly a follower and subscriber and have my notifications on! Ps. Do you have a video that introduces the basics/ like why you pour your tea into that strainer box? I want to learn from the start... and who better to learn from- other than you two? 😊 Thank you for your time and please keep the great videos coming!!!💕 Sincerely, Brendalee
I think I need to get into my ancestry more and pick up some more PuErh. And then find a tea loving friend to get similarly tea drunk with so that I can one day also smoothly say "I won't touch your lovely gushu" (at 11:33) haha. You're both great and I can't believe I hadn't found your channel before! Been really into matcha for the last several years, but only went for gong fu style tea once.
1st time I got tea drunk It was late at night watching a movie with my wife. I was so hyped my wife had no idea what I had do e to myself!! haha it was a cheaper raw puer. I tried to explain how I felt to my wife and ever since then I have tried to get her to feel that cha qi! which I seem to fail time and time again. even after raw puer or green tea. we have both enjoyed your videos together and we would love to enjoy your tea together and hopefully get her to feel that tea high that I have been hyping up to her ever since. Thanks Don and we will keep enjoying your educational and entertaining videos!!
Love the story and we know that it can sometimes be hard to achieve that feeling but follow the guidelines in the video and if you find any other tips then please share!
+chinalife Tea House thanks. Yeah I have definitely had gushu since then which has been my go-to tea drunk tea and ever since then... well let's just say my bank account never seems to be big enough hahaha still dying to get a hold of some aged white tea of top quality. And judging by the way you describe it, it's going to be a blast.
Hello .. My boyfriend is a non-alcohol person, but oh my... he can get sooo tea drunk :) especially when we are hosting some tee-coholic friends. Mostly it is happening by Pu-erh drinking, but I dont believe we had honor to drink any superior quality, but it worked anyway... maybe it is the spirit of the people that is working so well with tea :) - Wish you luck, I enjoy the videos.. thank you!
I've never had a tea that I've been tea drunk on... I've honestly never even had an aged tea! I have a couple young Pu'erhs on the way, but I'd love to try a nice, aged white tea. White teas, in my mind, are mild, and to have my view turned completely reverse by experiencing the obviously strong effect that the Jade Star had on you would be great! Anyways, thanks for the video, I'd love to experience this tea with my son. I'm sure he'd be thrilled to share this tea with me.
I love the video! Yes, I have been tea drunk before but at that time I didn't know that I was until the person who sold it to me told me I was. It was the best experience! carry several types of tea that have that effect and would like to experience yours. Keep making the video they are wonderful. If I am ever in London I shall stop in. Thank you for the information too!
a big fan..i have never been tea drunk but would love to cause i like to explore...i always try different types and variety of drinks and try to learn about them..would love to get some aged white...
You don't have to get tea drunk! The tea is delicious and if you drink after a meal and not too much then you can appreciate the taste without as much of the feeling.
I haven't been tea drunk ever and I am finally starting to appretiate good tea. I would love to get tea drunk with my friends, it would be nice introduction to 'the tea world´ in my opinion. Anyway I love your video and I'm glad to see your channel getting more subscribers. I'm definitely going to stop by when visiting London again. Cheers!
I once lost an entire day to about 14g of a particularly infamous 10-year-old Naka sheng which sent my frontal lobe into overdrive. Difficult to describe this effect, but that tea-binge kept me up all night, and I've gone easy on that puer ever since. Young and aged sheng can have a similar effect on me: extreme alertness while remaining very calm and meditative. I've not yet been very tea-drunk from aged baicha, but I'd like to have some of what you're having in this video! Cheers!
Usually I sort of use tea as a work drug to help me keep focused while working But occasionally I get tea drunk in a more "conventional" sense. Sometimes it just happens even though I mostly try to be carefull and not drink too much or too strong tea most of the time. Then there are those times I just want to get tea drunk, preferable in good company. For me the social aspects of drinking tea is more important when I want to get high on tea, while at other times I try to enjoy the tea itself (though the ChaQi is still an interesting aspect when drinkin alone, just not the whole idea of getting really tea drunk). I Would really like to win this tea, not only because it seems an interesting tea (I enjoy aged whites), but because it would make for a great evening with some friends getting tea high. And thanks for all the great videos, hopefully I'll be able to come by London in the near future and then I'll be sure to stop by and say hi.
Agree with you that it is great to pick and choose how to drink your tea according to what you are trying to achieve and we certainly do not drink like this everyday! Yes come and say hi if you are in London.
when i first made matcha tea i was playing around with the water levels...and didn't want to waste any so i drank it all. I had a head rush and fuzzy nose feeling for sure...but i think it was the caffeine lol. Your white aged tea sounds amazing
I've got a tea shop in North Wales and we do tea tastings every month. As we've got more specialist and geeky, the teas we taste are more along the lines of oolongs and pu-erhs, and we regularly get tea drunk! Hilarious! There's one person who comes along who doesn't drink tea, and you can see your looking oddly at us all giggling away, brilliant!
Totally know what you mean - there is a beautiful bonding sensation when you get tea drunk with friends.
This is how they made many good friends centuries ago back in East Asia.
How lovely.
This made me smile so much. I know this kind of experience. Beautiful!
Now i know why Iroh in Avatar the last airbender is so chill and happy.
Literally why I got into tea
LOL bonkers
I watch avatar to but now the legend of Korra.
Currently watching avatar and loving it
@@ptgirlmu its very good and a good balance between childfriend and mature (in topics) at the same time
My brother and I accidentally stumbled in to tea drunkenness one fine afternoon when we happened upon a local tea room.
That's the high Theanine helping to increase GABA neurotransmitters.
Kaptein where can I get it??
Kaptein cooking2
matcha just gets me hyped up lol
I am kind of scared of trying macha, because I have anxiety and coffee made me scary hyped and sharp. So I'm careful with stimulants now.
a couple of months ago i tried tea and felt some drunkness, since then i have been caught up with its properties, I am really glad I found this video, I love how you passionately talk about it! congrats
Cheers for watching and be sure to subscribe for your chance to win the white tea - we are picking a winner on Sunday.
I enjoyed hearing you talk about all the compound and their effects in tea. No wonder there is a synergy between tea and cannabis
2ndchanceinlife I'll have to try this too. I'm also allergic to alcohol.
Once I visited a city in Brazil and the nice people from there called a funny man with a wizard hat that made me a Mushroom tea that mad me *super* high. Besides that tea no other tea have ever made me high or drunk. Maybe it only works if you don't drink tea that often.
Carlos Prado lmao it probably was psychedelic mushrooms. I'm assuming either the ones containing psyclibin or the ones that contain muscimol.
allergic to alcohol? how does that work?
I have also, recently, developed some form of hives from alcohol... very random. Very upsetting
Yes we wonder about what compounds are formed during ripening and ageing.
Thanks Anthony, given your experience in tea I am happy that the Meddler surprised you!
Love it.
I never even heard of aged white tea. Very interesting video.
you can age almost any tea it's wild and I find the aged stuff makes me get the heady feeling.
Yes Matcha is quite powerful stuff!
Great reason and congrats to your father. Tea can be a really good option for those wanting to kick out our bad habits.
I have to agree that minerality is key to having a pleasant tea drunk feeling. My best experience was with a lao shu, which had a very animal and countryside like flavour to it at first, but then it started to release a lot of stoney, earthy and mineral flavour. One of the best teas I've tasted.
Interesting! No science to back it up but the Lao tea with a lot of minerality does add something.
Great story and we can totally picture this and KUDOS for a music festival having a tea tent, which one?
Om shan tea tent at Lightening in a Bottle music festival :)
Getting high on a balcony - lovely!
Hi guys, you have been magnificent in giving me lots of new information, while i am a pharmacist, i have been taught something new, i love to get tea drunk and hopefully to get a sample, michael
Is this giveaway still working after 4 years? 😂 I do really want that tea
Great sessions! Name a date and we can organise another one with a fresh tea!
So I’m excited 😆
yesterday i tried my first aged white tea, a pai mu tan from 2005. and wow, it was the craziest session i've ever had :D
I'm a tea lover but I would like to experience this effect. wow I didn't know. but would greatly appreciate this opportunity
hi Don, i often get tea drunk from moroccan tea.. it has a basis of chinese green tea and is served with mint leaves. we moroccans love our tea and drink it everyday and thanks to your channel I know more about our tea and tea in general...
Y'all are the only ones on here that truly teach us. Thank you so much
th jade star just arrived.
I love watching Celine pour the tea.
Love being tea drunk! The most powerful teas I have had have been young raw Sheng Puerh tea. Love that dizzy happy excited feeling :)
Matt Stefan what type of teas can you use and how do you brew it
This past summer I visited a tea house in China and had the opportunity to taste a raw pu-er for the first time. After many cups of a variety of teas including the pu-er, I got up to walk around and the sensation felt very similar to being tipsy on alcohol. I of course bought some of that pu-er, and I'm excited to try it again!
Of course you bought it haha make sure you brew it gong fu style like we assume they did in China
Thanks for watching and for tasting our brews!
Absolutely! I'm glad you did.It really is an amazing feeling, and I'm excited to see every new video you put out :)
Always looking for that happy place.......... I must get on the tube and come and see you guy's ..................
:) we love hearing that we are turning more people onto tea so thanks for commenting. Which teas from Yunnan are you getting?
I'm very curious to try aged white tea. I have had nice effects from drinking matcha, it was like a mix of calmness and a very alert state, very interesting.
I purchased some of your Young Gushu for the very purpose of getting tea drunk. It worked and I found it to be a "happy, entergetic drunk." I'd like to try the Bai Mu Dan so I could compare the two and compare it to the "experiences" from the 70s. I would consider documenting the experience if I can find someone to film it. Which, of course, I would regret immediately.
Not sure how it would stand up to the '70's experiences' :) Film your experience and share it with us with NO regrets!
I love this video. So inspiring.
THANK YOU for spreading the word - we all need a bit more tea in our lives.
I've never been tea drunk, but I think it would be an awesome experience
I started to drink raw puerh to this vid, paused it when you timelapsed. Drunk some more tea and meditated came back as "drunk" as you guys it was eally funny xD
I always drink tea to your videos, Thanks for keeping me entertained and and teaching me about tea at the same time.
Keep drinking the good stuff :D
Great, we love the idea of you drinking along with us and reaching the same high! Thanks for sharing and for watching.
I drink a lot of traditionally brewed yerba mate, and love getting the slight buzz from the caffeine and other stimulants.
Yerba Mate Is The GOD Of Teas Period.
@@hyapastrebe52 one of my absolute favorites!
I wanna get tea drunk! I know, way to late to get selected. Clearly still being watched.
It's funny that I just stumbled across this video - I bought a 7-yr old Lao Bai Cha cake in China 2 years ago, and I hadn't tasted it in 7 or 8 months, so I just had it the other day. Great longevity, and it left me feeling quite tea drunk. Cheers!
Hahaha great thanks for sharing with us!
About to visit your shop in Camden Town - So excited 😁
So what did you have?
I purchased a cold brew system and some of the white jasmine tea. I love the cold brew system, I use it every day!
jangtsedude
Thanks for coming!
Loved this! Missed the contest but subscribing anyway. Lots of good info. Now I'll have to break into my tea stash and try. Also 25 cups in 40 min? DAaaaang.
:D
They're small cups though! ;)
Yes be careful out there!
Nagyon jó látni egy magyarat, aki szereti a teát, when I was in Hungary I could not find any descent tea at all nor anyone who knew about it.
Thanks Don and Celine!
kinghazzah - Camden is amazing. I just wish I knew of mei leaf when I was last there!
We used to take GABA supplements to bring back a roll after it starts to wear off. Worked really well.
Whenever we do a marathon tea tasting session we feel like that in the morning - the day is a blur really :)
So glad I stumbled across this channel
Thanks for sharing your knowledge of tea!
I felt this way when I made green tea. Then used the green tea instead of water to blend a High grade matcha. It was delicious but I did know the feeling was called tea drunk. My family still likes me to make it for them.
I haven't gotten tea drunk by myself yet... but I HAVE gotten tea drunk with my tea friends pouring up!
Nicer to get drunk in groups.
Greetings from New Mexico!
I've tried to get tea drunk quite often primarily while drinking raw green puerhs but haven't experienced a white puerh yet . This made me very curious. Love the videos , best tea channel on RUclips .
Thank you! Oh and this is not a white PuErh it is an aged white tea.
I am honestly shocked that tea can have this effect! Makes me even more exciting to become a teahead!
Just as good as a cigarette if not better
@@DdoubleB03 tobacco 🤮
Great :)
So, I've gone to your shop today and though unfortunately I'd forgotten to message you, I did enjoy the "tea high" from your aged white tea very much!
And that cold-brewed Mi Lan Dan Cong was also very interesting (though I do not have too much experience with oolongs).
Great that you came by and sampled that Jade Star high! The Mi Lan is a lovely, fruity little number and a great starting point for Oolong exploration as this is one of the original oolongs.
I am so envious!
Grab some tea and join us!
Please consider me, if you donever offer this again, Don and Celine.
I am truly a follower and subscriber and have my notifications on!
Ps. Do you have a video that introduces the basics/ like why you pour your tea into that strainer box?
I want to learn from the start... and who better to learn from- other than you two? 😊
Thank you for your time and please keep the great videos coming!!!💕
Sincerely,
Brendalee
I think I need to get into my ancestry more and pick up some more PuErh. And then find a tea loving friend to get similarly tea drunk with so that I can one day also smoothly say "I won't touch your lovely gushu" (at 11:33) haha. You're both great and I can't believe I hadn't found your channel before! Been really into matcha for the last several years, but only went for gong fu style tea once.
i love getting tea zonked. which tea is best for getting tea crunk. what teas to drink for getting teaded
We have one lovely aged white that has a similar taste and effect although not quite as strong: chinalifeweb.com/shop/product/jade-star/
Hello .. My boyfriend is a non-alcohol person, but oh my... he can get sooo tea drunk :) especially when we are hosting some tee-coholic friends. Mostly it is happening by Pu-erh drinking, but I dont believe we had honor to drink any superior quality, but it worked anyway... maybe it is the spirit of the people that is working so well with tea :) - Wish you luck, I enjoy the videos.. thank you!
Thank you for sharing, I love the term tea-coholic hahaha
Very fun and informative video!
Yes an aged white is completely different in the power and flavour of the tea.
Gotta say, exremely entertaining to watch while tea drunk
Fantastic video! I've never been tea-drunk before, it seems like such a healthy way to get that woozy feeling :)
Totally! Healthy and enjoyable = win
I'm new to tea and have never experienced tea drunkness, would love to.
you put word on my feelings. Thanks a lot. Never heard of tea drunkiness before. You enlightened me
Thanks for explaining this! Sometimes it happens and I didn’t know what it was.
a big fan..i have never been tea drunk but would love to cause i like to explore...i always try different types and variety of drinks and try to learn about them..would love to get some aged white...
Amazing I can’t wait to try. Why didn’t Celine filtered her tea like you did Don ?
I don't necessarily want to try to get tea drunk, but I think you have great taste in tea and would love a new, delicious, sample.
You don't have to get tea drunk! The tea is delicious and if you drink after a meal and not too much then you can appreciate the taste without as much of the feeling.
Don't know much about tea but really enjoy the channel and look forward to trying some!
Yes. Choose your first selection of true tea and begin your tea journey!
Cheers!
to be honest I never knew you could get drunk on tea I guess it would be a great social thing to do and great vid keep up the great informative videos
This video makes me so excited for tea haha
I would love to experience it.
when i first made matcha tea i was playing around with the water levels...and didn't want to waste any so i drank it all. I had a head rush and fuzzy nose feeling for sure...but i think it was the caffeine lol. Your white aged tea sounds amazing
It would have been a combination of caffeine and theanine.
i am so excited. I love you guys excitement for the flavours.
so cute x
I've got a tea shop in North Wales and we do tea tastings every month. As we've got more specialist and geeky, the teas we taste are more along the lines of oolongs and pu-erhs, and we regularly get tea drunk! Hilarious! There's one person who comes along who doesn't drink tea, and you can see your looking oddly at us all giggling away, brilliant!
@Angela Jane it’s called Seibiant
