@@Euroviking86 That's something Eurovision does better now. There's bigger focus on entertainment and fun. I think (from what I've seen) flags was starting to appear in 1996.
The suited audience weren't fans but delegates, representatives, general VIPs etc - actual fans were rare in the audience at this point (I think a few got tickets as a prize but they'd be at the back). The contest changed a lot in the late 1990s/early 2000s to the party atmosphere it has today!

Tampoco le escribirían buenas canciones para seguir su carrera, aunque ella se presento otra vez hace unos años a la preselección para Eurovision pero no fue elegida. Una pena, la carrera que pudo haber tenido y que ya es muy poco probable que consiga. El momento de explotar fue aquel segundo puesto y que nadie la apoyará para ser divulgada como merecía. Saludos.

The Swedish voting is a total embarrassement, giving Norway, the winning song 0 points! Well, Norway won anyway , as other countries appreciate quality.
Gizmos Monster Norway and Sweden usually give high votings eachother, as good neighbours, more than for example Spain and Portugal. It's an odd case this one in which both entries, being clear favourites, Sweden gave no points to Norway and Norway no more than 6 to Sweden.
Jorge Juan Rodríguez Ortega just a quick stat check.. in the FInals, Norway has given sweden 319 points, while Sweden has given Norway 194 points.. Sweden favors Ireland in the finals and Ireland and Denmark over Norway in the semis.
It was a political decision after the accession of Austria, Finland and Sweden to the EU with Norway's refusal to join punished by the aforesaid three countries.
The most funny thing is Therry Hogan comments( sorry He passed away a few years ago,) which were not related any cultural signs and consistant comments...for Example He said when start the voting Turkey ‘ see what a strange voting coming’ but one of the contries given 12 points to winner...:))
Mary Kennedy retired from RTÉ in December 2019. Where was she standing when she did the voting? Normally the presenters are centre stage or to the side (like 1993 or 1994). The 1995 stage was very dark and where she is standing is bright, so it almost seems she was in a separate room or something! And yes, I get they may just have turned the lights up :)
You should leave the Big 5. It's so simple but you cannot see it. It only works for Italy (because people are decided to forgive them for fear of leaving again).

I didn't expect that Spain was going to be second placed that evening. At the ending, I was greatly surprised. Furthermore, after the event I didn't expect that years later "Vuelve Conmigo" would be claimed to be the worthy winner of this edition in such comments like these. I am proud as can be reading it. Nocturne is the real winner and of course a very worthy winner too.

Turkey's song was so beautiful that I was very sad that it got so few points. If you look at the lyrics of the song, you will understand how meaningful and deep it is, but perhaps the juries may not have been so fair to some countries according to the conditions of the period. Happy to see at least two countries give Love City Groove 12 points...I kinda like that one. It's no Nocturne (a very deserving winner), but it's fun and catchy.
Interestingly open voting. The top-13 all got at least 67 points, a record no year pre-2004 has shared. There was then a space of 23 points between placing 13 and 14, with Ireland doing rather badly on home soil even though I like "Dreamin'" very much. Despite finishing 2nd, Spain were never a real threat at any point in this voting, coming up on the rails when Norway had already built their lead. "Nocturne" is an evergreen classic. Poland were sadly underrated, but it was a great year for Scandinavia, with all 3 of them in the top-5. Iceland, the lone Nordic, did okayish, which was the most our rather drab entry deserved.

Terry's commentary was nice in the 90's. He didn't seem to enjoy it much anymore in the 2000's after the televote got introduced.

I do agree that Turkey derved more. They had many good songs in this periode that didn’t fully pay off. My favourite is 1997.

Despite finishing 2nd, Spain were never a real threat at any point in this voting, coming up on the rails when Norway had already built their lead. "Nocturne" is an evergreen classic. Poland were sadly underrated, but it was a great year for Scandinavia, with all 3 of them in the top-5. Iceland, the lone Nordic, did okayish, which was the most our rather drab entry deserved.

@@ruud22nljansen88 Of course they wouldn't have known it. The thing is they did not WANT it. Swe and Den did not vote for Norway out of spite because they were all close favourites for the victory. All of them just proved how close minded they can be.
