I was underwhelmed by the UK song, no points from me. This contest showed the benefit you get if you sing in English. Glad that Iceland got points from a lot of juries.
A very important Greek composer in one of his interviews revealed that he had some contacts with another important Turk one so that the 2 countries could promote their fragile relationship through the voting procedure by going against all odds and vote for each other (plus to fight back against the Nordic block voting which had already started to show its threatening face) . That meant that they had on each part to influence the juries in doing so. The Turks accomplished that (since they had already been in the right spot from 1988 when they gave their first ever points to Greece) yet the Greeks obviously were not ready yet (not until 1997) and this exposed in personal level the Greek composer to the Turkish side for the zero points that were finally awarded. And as he said both sides were up to the last minute so sure that this would have been the right moment.... A fun fact is that I would have marked the Turkish song high not because of a weird agreement but because I quite much like it. 12 Yugoslavia 10 Austria 8 Italy 7 Denmark 6 Turkey 5 Norway 4 Ireland 3 Israel 2 Portugal 1 Netherlands One thing I never got to understand is how this Greek song of ours got to be liked by the Europeans since we had never heard it before that night and trust me we came to listen to it never again. Only ESC fans in Greece know now that it's ever existed.
@@billos-xpalavos3771 Yes, those are my votes. Even though the source for the composer information is one of his interviews, I'd like not to reproduce his name myself. It's an obvious shot though (for the ESC matters).
They often did that during the '90. Remember "Yugoslavia, 1 point" in 1991, and "Luxembourg, 10 points" in 1993. Not just the 90's but I am pretty sure that in 2007 they needed to use the backup jury, who gave 12 points to the UK as a protest against voting blocks.
If look at other Votings you would see that Malta votes very oftern different from rest. I don´t think ist tactically. How the Jury should know how the rest of Europe has voted. So maybe thier taste is just different :P
I know!! A very talented musical theatre performer, writer and illustrator, in her prime in the 90's but has continued to have a career in later life. Funny though.
Terry Wogan Been An Irishman Should Have Known Another Irish Woman's Name her name is Linda Martin Not Jessica Martin...He Seems To Forget He's Full Bread Irish
I was disappointed he didn't win. He left it all out there on stage and it was a good song. A close contest in 1992. Four or five countries could have won it had votes varied slightly.
Jesus! Look at that scoreboard... no Belarus, Lithuania, Russia, Latvia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Montenegro, Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Moldova...yep, those were the days when the Eurovision Song Contest was great!
Greece had the worst Eurovision ever that year. Ireland was brilliant and one of the most deserving winners ever. The only thing wrong with the votes was that Greece didn't get 0
Best part of Eurovision. Was the scoring. But as Usual. The Commenting. Terry Wogan had to interrupt. Same as these days, another Irish. Person from Republic of Ireland but claiming to be British Commentary unbelievable rude.
Terry Wogan was commentating for the British public via the BBC so he would obviously have to support the British. Regardless, he said nice things about the Irish entry throughout.
Yes, the eastern bloc ex commie countries have ruined Eurovision with their awful political and bloc voting. They should be chucked out so we can have proper Eurovisions again.
One of the weakest years ever to be honest. Anyone from my 91's top 11 would've been my winner here. Ireland was a deserving winner though, but Switzerland touched me a little bit more. 1. RIP Mia Martini. What a star! 🇮🇹
no matter the final results, we will always remember you MIA. In the year wherever i went everybody were talking about RAPSODIA
This year should have been Mia's. What a beautiful song she should have won by miles.
Grazie Mia

Terry Wogan kept calling Linda Martin Jessica until he announced her as winner. 😂 This Eurovision will always remind me of my nan God rest her soul.

The start of the 3 year domination of Ireland 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
And to top it off, Ireland won again in 1996 and finished 2nd in 1997. 😎☘
Linda Martin deserved to win
Greece, Portugal and Norway's juries tipped it in favour of Ireland..

A long time fan of Mia Martini - if she had won with the beautiful tender song Rhapsodia - it would have been perfect.
I like Contests with suspence! Congratulations to Ireland! Deserved to win! I also liked Malta, Italy, Greece, Cyprus and Israel!
The top 3 songs were the only 3 sung in English . . .

Did Yugoslavia hate the UK? They screwed it for us so many times.

Hello? Neighbour voting... They vote for each other! That's upsetting.
Martin Stone agreed. The Eastern Bloc has ruined Eurovision. They already had their own version wity Intervision and they should have kept it going.
It's better now though
Intervision ended in 1981
Yugoslavia deserves the win. Hower, political situation was not so good.
malta was the winner
What a lot of hype for the Maltese song, and have the false knockers returned in 2017..
No it only came 3rd.
Malta had nothing to do even in the top 5. Criminally overrated

Definitely one of the least interesting Eurovision of the 90's. The English speaking countries will never have the success they had back then.
Instead I think it was one of the best ESC editions with some good songs: Israel, Netherlands, Iceland, Cyprus, Portugal, Greece, Sweden.

This was one of the weakest ESC editions, in my opinion. Very dreadful.
Can't compare it to the 99 edition where ALL songs except CRO were so bad
Not at all.
