He had selective memory, like when he mentioned the year before "3 points from the French!" I think that's the most they've ever given us". However, they'd given us 12 the year before when we won with Love Shine a Light and also on many other occasions
He was an absolute mop. To be ignored and forgotten. “They all vote for each other. This is atrocious” Malta, Ireland and UK voting for each other for decades before. But that was fair obviously.
This was the first ESC I remember in my lifetime, I was aged 6 and had no idea what I was watching but can recall gold coins being handed out at the end of such a long show. Say It Again + Take Me To Your Heaven were hits in UK which I remember hearing on the charts but didn't know both were in Eurovision til a few years later, here I am now... A massive dedicated Eurovision fan! The Late 90s were a fabulous era for the contest, ESC finally moved up with the times!
The idea to invite all the contestants to sing and to dance with the winning song is so good. It symbolizes unity for all europeans. Hope they doing it in 2019!
Sweden definitely deserved this win, the song is beautiful and Charlotte has a wonderful voice! I only wish she'd sung it in Swedish, that version is so much better than the English one
for example - this is the closest eurovision for a long long time when the year before it was between Israel and Malta with a tie before the last voting
SimsMoyal same with our Polish guy. That man insists on stating that Big 5 started Eurovision, which is not true. He also uses wrong names of some countries and always says Melodienfestival instead of Melodifestivalen. Looks like it’s a rule 🤣
@@o-b-1 it's doesn't really what attracted us - in 1979 Austria sang the song "Tonight in Jerusalem" and didn't get a single vote from us. more over we gave them 12 points in 1982 too - we are keeping it on the music level and i am proud of that.
What's surprising is not only the fact that my country (France) got its highest number of points from Norway, it's also the fact Norway voted with the televote. It makes me wonder if France would have had a better placing if only the televote voted or a 50/50 vote. The final sequence with all the artists is heart-warming. It must have been a very jovial year. An Eurovision in Tel-Aviv would be amazing.
When France is voting Terry says that nobody has null points, but Portugal does and it takes him a minute to notice! xD Then France gives Portugal 12 points and Terry bursts out laughing xD The timing is spectacular on that LOL
Why I am proud to be Israeli when I watch this: 1. the stage - for 1999 production - wow. very nice job. 2. we actually gave money! XD not points! coins of gold! haha what a jewish stereotype! it looks like a prince of persia video game. 3. we called all countries to join on stage to sing the winning song! 4. I like it when they say "good evening Jerusalem, this is ____ calling" 5. we got 5th place, nice job! next win I hope we host in Tel Aviv.
Your presenter was also great, he put all the spokespersons at ease, he was very friendly and not robotic at all. You gave a very good show in 1999. Kol ha'kavod!
I absoulutaly love the 1999 edition of eurovision... so colourful ... but not in that Gay way... So Golden and the songs were all so modern for this time ... I hope Israek wins again soon
Lior Haliva I disagree slightly tbh. 1) They made Eurovision have a gay stereotype which deters some people off and 2) They got rid of the language and live orchestra rule.
Apparently in order to escape relegation, Bosnia-Herzegovina would have had to get 141 points (more than 3rd place Germany). The average results rule was ridiculous.
Sweden deserved the win. The song was a modern twist bringing that recognised famous ABBA-esque sound back in to the future at the time. As great as Iceland was, it was the other way around....a modern song with a very dated pop sound. I still liked it though. Special mention has to go to Belgium that year for their song which was very reminiscent of Enya. I loved it. Finally, I understand why Charlotte looked pissed off on stage whilst she awaited the trophy for winning. Dana clearly couldn’t let go of the spot light, and the moment that should have been Charlottes to enjoy, Dana used it for herself. Such an embarrassment.
34:25 remember Dana international's song that was responsible for making ESC 1999 possible well the host nation's spokesperson wrote the lyrics to the song diva
Who were those girls that was dancing behind Charlotte behind her during the winning performance? Who even were they?(edit) There were from the interval act.
We would have won if musical discrimination wasn't still alive in the Balkan countries. Luckily they couldn't take away Olsen brothers victory in the following year.
Iceland should have won that year instead of Sweden, which way overrated! And by the way Terry, I know you're not around anymore but Belgium had that evening one of the best songs!!!
Croatia is the only song from this year I have never forgotten, should have won. Very catchy!
marija magdalena won and nothing can change my mind
100% agree, I still listen to it so now and then.
I love how Charlotte walks to Selma ( Iceland ) so sweet
She is sexy❤❤

Terry wogan: this is one of the closest Eurovisions in a long long time
1998: a tie before the last voting.

I love how at the end of the show Charlotte proved once again how great a singer she is. Love it! 😁😊
For me,real winner is Croatia❤❤❤
I was so happy that she sang 'Tusen och en natt' at the end!
+Geweldig Schot The best EVER reprise of a winning song so much energy on the stage.
This is the best way of finishing ESC event. It is touching

Why was "Take Me to your Heaven" even a hit? It sounded incredibly dated even then.
hi
If only they kept the orchestra. They could have updated it to be a live band instead.
Croatia should've won that year, "Marija Magdalena" was truly the best song, but Sweden and Iceland had fantastic songs too.
very agree
To me Lithuania was head and shoulders above the rest that year as a song, but the whole package might have seemed a bit boring
Sweden, Croatia and Germany were all great and would all have been deserving winners 😊😊
joking?
a wonderful show full of fun and colour hampered by flippant camera work. great postcards and a lovely ending
39:24 - 39:42 is pure gold.
Everyone is talking about Croatia, but I love Iceland the most!
Croatia, Maria Magdalena The Best
Im Croatian

My god Colin Berry's votes are always such a pleasuer to hear...
So much charm
17:45 "nobody has nul points"
Portugal: *has nul points*
it is well known that Terry is not really connected to reality when he is commentating
for example - this is the closest eurovision for a long long time when the year before it was between Israel and Malta with a tie before the last voting
SimsMoyal in 1995 he said that it’s Russia’s debut, while Russia participated in 1994 and did well.

If your country wants to get out of nil point might as well get the big 12 points
It's one of the lesser known relationships in ESC. France and Portugal always exchange high marks!
I like the design of the voting
Charlotte is amazing as always! "Take Me To Your Heaven" is definitely carved in my heart among my favourite winners of 20th century :)

Ireland started with 12 points and after that got almost null point. it was very surprising and comic.
Lithuania's voting was jury, you'll notice other countries that used juries in 1999 (Turkey, Ireland and Bosnia) voted quite randomly as well.
