Agree. Then backed fully into the corner, the actual lion woke up angry as hell. Also, OL injuries turned out to be a blessing in disguise; the replacement RG was the staring LT going into week one before he tore a pec. He's an elite monster, and was fully fresh and cracking skulls all second half(even if he went the wrong way pulling once, lol)
Steve Angeli is the backup, and he was the backup last year behind Hartman. Dude has been workin HARD the past 2 years learning and it shows. Early in the year when leonard wasnt playing because of missing spring/fall camp because of his injury there were a looooooot of people wanting angeli to get in there. When we started blowing out teams by 20 or more points angeli got a looooot of second half snaps because they took leonard out of the game and he always ran the offense competently and efficiently. I am hoping next year he gets his shot at the starting job, but it is going to be a fight with CJ Carr in camp and that should be interesting
Love that I found you this year. I started telling my dad about this channel and he had found you simultaneously so took the wind out of my braggadocio. Keep up the great work!
You can see in the first half ND was way overcompensating to everything Warren was doing. In the second half they basically just went back to their base.
Yep, will be a first rounder in a few years. ND has been amazing under Freeman, finding low/mid 4 star kids they think they can turn into elite starters as soph or freshman (Morrison, Shuler, Moore, DE Traore before injury)
Harrison Smith if we are talking secondary in general- he was a first rounder 15 years ago. Julian Love was a DB that went maybe 3rd round and became a safety. Benjamin Morrison is the guy that is out now that will be first round next year
Jeff Burris and Tom Carter in the early 90s were probably the last DBs drafted in the 1st round before Harrison Smith. Other notable DBs not drafted in the first round: Bobby Taylor, Sean Wooden, Allen Rossum, Glenn Earl, Shane Walton.
Came across your channel after the georgia loss. As a notre dame fan ots refreshing to see an unbiased knowledgeable video breakdown. Of course i immediately subbed.
Harrison Smith was the last Notre Dame DB (besides Hamilton) taken in round 1. Cam Hart, Troy Pride, and Julian Love all drafted in later rounds. Benjamin Morrison and Leonard Moore are probably future first rounders with Gray borderline first round. Mike Mickens is a hell of an evaluator/ coach (Sauce Gardner)
Love it though I hate those minor roster inaccuracies. 15 is a true frosh, Gray is a true soph, Sneed 3, Ausberry 4 are both “Rovers/ OLB” and Clark is a graduate senior. 2 Heard is a graduate senior and hybrid safety nickel. Gray is a shade over 6’0” and Moore is 6’2” like you said (tall and long). Last year, they did the same thing as they did to every other team against OSU. They shut down Harrison Jr, and the rest of that corps… Until they started putting Egbuka in the slot against Harper, last year’s nickel. When he was outside, he did nothing against Hart, BMo or Gray when he would spell either starting corner. It won’t surprise me if ND makes OSU beat them running the same way they more or less make everyone else beat them. Love the passion! Thanks for bringing the overall athleticism difference ND has now… BTW, Todd Lyght, I believe is the last first round corner, though Hamilton and Smith were the last safeties in the first round.
Definitely looking for west to part 2! You’re awesome. You should try and see if you can get on Irish Breakdown for a show. You’ll get even more Irish exposure over there haha
I think Leonard on that pitch read just misread the situation because jadarion price is fully capable of breaking off defenders in an open space and taking it back to the house
Nice work. I enjoy this explanation. When I watch a game on TV, I don't see or realize 1 percent of what The Film Guy just described. I'll be back for Part 2 tomorrow. Notre Dame, '72.
Uh hey guy, we did play that defense against OSU the last 2 years and their receivers didn’t do shit, also both games were decided by less than a touchdown.
Does anyone remember ND and OSU played the past two seasons really close? Granted, Bucks are much improved but if OSU beats ND by more than 10 points... it'll be because ND is into the 3rd and 4th team personnel. Else, Irish will give em hell!
Would love for you to breakdown the differences in ND's OL/DL from 1st half to 2nd in pt2. From my non-ball knower eyes PSU did not have the same production with their wide/outside runs with their OL moving out and up while ND was scheming.
ND ran a lot of man vs this WR core with MHJ last year. Now i get BMO is out but Al golden trusts his DBS. i can see two high man a lot to prevent the deep play, but they do not run a whole lot of zone coverage.
Brooks if you look at the last play of the game, if Allar made a better throw to the other side of the field did #10 have a chance to score. It looked like there was no ND players on that side of the field. What say you?
Sir you do know that penn st have no wideouts so ND wasn't worry about that so they shortened the field bc they knew everything was going to be in front of them. Osu going to beat them by 21
Lol yea cause they didn't shut down better receivers and qb the last 2 seasons when they played them. Both games came down to late 4th quarter one came down to the very end. Not even a question they will play the same defense they always play. Ohio st got torched and couldn't do much against texas. Notre dame defense is better than texas no question
Irish defense was doing everything they could to try to slow down the best player in College football 44 Warren! That freed up other players. The two best players in the playoffs played for Penn State! 11 and 44! Those guys are INSANE! OSU has NOTHING like those two players! IRISH ARE ROLLING TO A NATTY!🎉😮 🍀 ☘️ 🍀 ☘️ 🍀 🍀 ☘️
Dude, as a fellow ND fan, that’s a very rosy take. Yes, Warren and Carter were two of the best players in the playoffs, but OSU has a bunch as well: Downs, Sawyer, Simon, T. Williams, and of course Jeremiah Smith. You could name a few others. ND can win this game, but it will need a lot to go right to do so.
@@IXLR82 Not me but they are outmatched here. ND doesn’t have the kind of offensive firepower to hang with OSU. Mobile qb but limited in consistent passing ability, banged up oline, Love not even at 90% just 1 possible threat at wr. Defense missing multiple players including their best. ND hasn’t faced anything like OSU on offense and defense. OSU just beat better teams than ND and Penn St in Texas. OSU beat Penn State and Indiana worse than ND, except Purdue. OSU has a better offense and defense than Penn State and better coaching. PSU should’ve beat ND even without any of their wrs making 1 catch. OSU beat Texas by 14 with Smith having just 1 catch and never trailed playing in Texas. ND’s rushing production has went down since the playoff, and that’s their bread and butter. OSU has the best rush defense. With all of those factors ND is in big trouble. I think ND’s defense will keep them in it for a quarter to a quarter and a half and then OSU pulls away. Score prediction should be at least close in that range.
@ I didn’t even read your novel for the simple fact that you’re not going to change my mind and I’m not going to change yours. Like I said, they’ve been doubted by the casuals since the NIU loss and just keep proving people wrong. 🤘🏻🍀
@@kevinchavis8462 No, we're just tired of fans of other teams telling us what the team can and can't do. Indiana, Georgia, and Penn State fans (the worst by far) had all of the same reasons you just listed as to why they would beat ND and those teams are all sitting at home now watching the game on tv like the rest of us. I mean Brooks just broke down how smart and athletic ND's defense is so if you didn't learn anything then that's on you.
I don’t think notre dame is fast I just think penn state is incredibly slow. The only explosive players they really have on their team are Abdul carter and nic singleton
That’s just not true. no. 5 for Penn state is a 4.28 runner. The offensive line is extremely athletic as well. They have the 12th ranked roster in the sport. Penn state has athletes. They don’t have Ohio state athletes, but they have athletes.
JESUS YOU IDIOT, THE OC CAME FROM KANSAS AND IT'S PENN STATE UNIVERSITY.
How do you expect anyone to subscribe to the channel if you start that WRONG
It's also clearly Cover3 from Penn State coverage wise to start the game when they are plugging the nickel.
This has to be corrected. My bad
I fixed it by the third time seeing it. Good lord. Good job Penn State disguising as late as humanly possible.
Brooks pulled an play from Kirk Lazarus (Robert Downey Jr.) playbook from Tropic Thunder. "I don't drop character till I done the DVD commentary." 😂
@@TheFilmGuyNetworkwait, Brooksie is human!?
I honestly think ND being pushed in the 1st half is due to the lack of rest they got between this and the Georgia game.
missing their best d-lineman and captain, too. The number of injuries for ND this year is unfathomable for those that haven't followed them.
Agree. Then backed fully into the corner, the actual lion woke up angry as hell.
