THE BOOK IS ABOUT A YOUNG CHILD WHO DOESN’T FIT IN DUE TO THEM LIKING THINGS NOT TYPICAL FOR BOYS. There’s literally nothing sexual or explicit about this book at all. In fact sexuality and gender identity and two very different topics altogether. Nothing about drag queens, or sexuality. Literally just IDENTITY. These “parents” aren’t trying to protect their children, they are trying to censor the existence of gender as a concept, which only harms people in the long run. Take it from me, a 19 year old genderfluid person, who wasn’t exposed to any teachings about gender or identity until high school. Guess what? I still am gender-fluid, and it never changed the fact that growing I still had these growing and changing feelings of not being a girl. Only difference is that they were shut out and not discussed in the hopes that they would go away, but as I learnt they won’t go away. So unless you want to support these protests and only end up with those same kids sneaking behind their parents’ backs to find you about these topics on the internet (which is ACTUALLY way worse since there’s no filtering or an adult teacher to regulate what’s being told), this will only lead to a worse outcome because let’s face it, strict parents that tell kids not to do or learn something without explaining, will only lead to kids going against their wishes is less safer ways (this is coming from someone raised by controlling parents who never bothered to explain anything to me, causing me to rely on the internet to learn things).

Parents have the right to be upset! Many parents want to keep their children safe. Some might find it uncomfortable learning about trans or what it means to be gay at a age when cartoons influence the mind. Is it delicate to have children behind a close door without supervision? I have nothing against the lgbtq but can understand why people don’t want children learning and should consider teaching it in sexual education or health in high school.
