Every Nanto Star had tragic ends, 2 as allies, 3 as enemies. Even Yuria has radiation poisoning by the end of the series, it was so sad it even allowed Raoh to unlock Musou Tensei.
You'd love him in the series then, especially this fight as he truly did have a move that would have ended Raoh's life if he didn't have the skill of foresight to see what would happen. There is a scene that shows how nanto suichoken - danko sousai ken (the dance of death move he uses at the end) would have tore raoh into confetti. Totally awesome. Not to mention he survives Raoh's attack...for quite a while afterwards.
Love this movie in general. Rei is awesome. I always thought his hand/scratch technique was cooler than Ken's multi punch--which is also bad ass. All Rei wanted to do was save his sister and he got his revenge before going out like a champ.
