I used to just say that I was sick with anorexia and bulimia but now I say that I had restrictive eating disorders because that was the root of my illness and I did often binge after periods of restriction even when I wasn’t purging. I think so many folks misunderstand the role of restriction, both physical and mental (which can include judgment of food), in these disorders. Especially regarding binges. They are pathologized but it’s just like the body gasping for air after you’ve held your breath a long time. You can’t fight biology or your body. No matter your size, in order to recover you need to stop restricting, allow the binge ( because your body is asking for food and your body doesn’t care about BMI), stop the judgment, stop all ocd-Ed behaviors. These are outlined by amazing people like Tabitha Farrar. She’s written so much about neural rewriring for EDs. The goal is not to become thin. It is to recover, nutritionally rehabilitate and make peace with food and your body. This goes for all restrictive disorders.
I would also argue that folks of all genders have anorexia and bulimia. They are just underdiagnosed. Bodybuilding obsessions, compulsive exercise can all be part of a disorder.
Also the thumbnail pic for this video is very stigmatizing-please think about changing it. Thanks.

The dry mouth symptom is interesting. Have had this with Adderall. Noticed if I eat more, less dry mouth, so not sure if Vyvanse would be any different. My BED got worse after few months on Adderall and Bupropion. Gained probably 60lbs. No magic pill for weight loss. Adderall is also impossible to have your prescriber and pharmacy to refill on time because it is a controlled substance. Every month I have issues refilling this medication and doctor says if I skip a dose and don’t take it consistently it won’t work. But for a patient trying to get it filled, you have to jump through so many hoops and it still is late with the refill. Overall, stimulants do nothing for BED.

Adderall has not been studied in this disorder. In theory other stimulants should work but there is no evidence to support this at this time. Vyvanse on the other hadn't does have the data to support its use. Bupropion alone has limited benefit, its best combined with naltrexone for weight loss this combination is called contrave. I do agree there is no magic pill. Hope this helps

My shrink gave me dex to try for chronic fatigue/daytime fatigue but it made me very anxious. I also suffer from insomnia so it didnt work at all. The struggle continues

I think I have this as well 😔 I can eat a whole party sized bag of popcorn in one sitting, a whole container of gelato.

We do need to be careful not to pathologize something that is a normal behavior. We all occasionally overeat so making sure the number of episodes and especially that feeling of loss of control and being unable to stop are present. This is a real disorder, but careful assessment is required to be sure. I appreciate the comment.

@@ShrinksInSneakers well good, that gives me hope that maybe I don't have it. I do this mostly after going off a diet. So maybe it's just a normal response to deprivation.

The title kills me. Bulimia without purging. Oxymoron no? You could change the title to Eating A lot: and keeping it down

Hello, could you do a review on amitryptiline / perphenazine combo? Can we add escitalopram to it? Thanks, Keep it up!
