    I spent 20 years hurrying up and waiting to load/unload.
    For final 15 years, I got into hauling fuel, where my customers were actually happy to see me, and I unloaded upon arrival! 👍🏻
    Sometimes, it took an hour or so waiting to load but never more than that.
    Now I'm comfortably retired!😊

    One word of advice. I never open the doors until I’m ready to bump the dock. Product temperature can give them another excuse for load refusal.

    Drivers have been fighting for detention since trucking was established in the 1930s.... We fight not only the shipper or receiver but also the broker who sometimes gets detention paid to tgem but never passes it on to the carrier, driver.. Safe travels guys

    Well your absolutely right Alice. The reefer industry is a mess. If a truck has an appointment for 11:00 then get the truck loaded. If not start paying by the hour. Oh if the company is short staffed that day then that company fixes that problem or pays for the waiting unit. The driver or O/O always pays the price for all the screw ups of the company’s they load and unload at. One of the reasons why reefer is not always the best freight to run. If it was a perfect world yup reefer could be attractive but not the way it is set up. Waiting 24 hrs with a reefer is not uncommon. Glad to see your handling it well. Love the drone shots, especially from above, let’s the viewers really get an idea of what the facility looks like where you are loading or unloading. The more info or the more you show the viewers what’s going the better your videos become. Trucking Together videos are right up there . Thanks for posting guys. Have a great and a safe day. Happy trails to you, D..

    Little tip on your AC unit. Vent the hot air out the window like you are doing. Leave the intake in the cab of the truck by the floor. The AC unit will work more efficiently pulling in cooler dryer air from in the cab compared to the hot humid air outside. It might even get better battery life.

    Man this brings back my produce hauling days, I can't count how many times I showed up, pulled into the dock,
    and was told they were picking the product. Do they still put thermometers to monitor temps. The first time I pulled into T&A in Salinas, CA another driver showed me how to "calibrate" it! They reminded me of a mini lie detector slowly marking temp. Let's just say the bulkhead method never failed me!

    • @Markhope-e3z
      @Markhope-e3z 6 месяцев назад

      Is that near the back of the
      refrigerated trailer where the thermo king unit is. When I was young, I worked for a company called Coleway Food Express. they hauled a lot of swinging beef. I worked in their yard in Cleveland, Ohio,doing miscellaneous jobs. A lot of steam cleaning trailers that was back in the cab over days..

    • @scherertech
      @scherertech 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@Markhope-e3z No, it was a non digital device that recorded temp on a small, cash register type paper. It was the size of a big cell phone, but much thicker. They gave it to me at the beginning of the load and about half way through they would put it somewhere in the trailer! But if the temp wasn't in the required zone they could reject the load! So since this device was super sensitive it had to be "calibrated!" Now this was back in the early '90s! Now I am sure it is all digital and such! I have been driving since 1989 so it was more analog back then! Drove a 1987 Charcoal Pete 379 with that beautiful long hood! First time I drove a truck with a hood too! In the history of my driving career it is my favorite truck, oh and it also hauled ass too! Got it up to 105, the owner said it would do 115 but didn't try that! I was pretty young and dumb at the time!

      @redmesa2975 6 месяцев назад

      On some loads now. They put a “ tattle tale “ recorder taped to a pallet or on the side wall of the trailer. If specs go out of range, it’ll indicate with led lights. It’s about the size of 2 packs of cigarettes.

    Morning I have a friend I've known since 6th grade that lives in Twin Falls
    What you said about the trucking industry applies to the towing industry as well I did that for over 20 plus years once you get in you don't get out it becomes your lifestyle not a job Because of the money that you make doing it in this situation with the cooler breaking down and them making you sit there and wait I don't know how the trucking industry works or what the rates are but it almost seems like sitting there all that time idling because of the heat and not getting any detention You're losing money more than you are making it on a load like that I don't know how that works I don't know how I would have handled it I probably would have started looking for another load and told them look you can find someone else to haul your stuff I got another load but I don't know how that works anyway
    Stay safe out there
    God Bless

    So at 16:45, dashboard says it’s 1:40am but it’s middle of day by what you’re saying so is your truck clock that far off?
    And…one of your best videos that shows what you have to deal with as a driver!

      I have 2 clocks, the one on the dash is that far off because batteries had died at some point and I never bothered to set it again. The one on the “info display” and tablet show correct time so it’s not a big deal to me to go to the effort to set the dash one

    Yep, the sucky side of trucking, no compensation for tying up our equipment for hours while waiting for shippers or receivers to take care of their products. I run a reefer and a flatbed, really prefer flatbed but reefer freight in my area pays a little better right now, but haaaate the bs with door swinging!

    I might have misunderstood but it was my understanding that ever since the mandatory e-logs the shippers/receivers are obliged to pay detention after 2 hours past appointment time ? greetings from Canada. (oh, and I also noticed in the past that often the facility actually DOES pay detention but it is not paid forward to the driver/carrier).

    Refer loads has always been a wait and wait and wait. Don't know why you get an appointment when they don't unload you. Refer loads should get more money for loads because of the waiting periods. It cost money waiting to be unloaded. Refer is running and truck too for many and you can't book another load until your empty. Thats why they need to pay more money for detention that way they have a motive to get trucks unloaded.
