Beautiful truck! Was it an original Exterior Decor package truck? I see the hood stripes and am considering painting my newly acquired 1979 Blazer hood the same way. My hood has serious front lip rust so a new one is in order and will require paint anyway. Mine is Carmine Red Special two tone. Need to find out how the stripes were in 79. Any love your ride.

No, it wasn’t. It had a cowl hood when I bought it, which I hated, and the blue wasn’t a factory color that I could match. Same situation you are in it sounds like. Always loved the look of the hood stripes, so my buddy that is a paint guy looked at some pictures and painted it up with a few shades of blue he had laying around!

It looks really nice! The Carmine Red is a bit faded on mine too and expect matching it will be a challenge. @@ElGuaposTruckFarm

2002 Silverado 5.3l LM7 engine, and it's mated to the stock TH350/NP203 transmission setup.

@@ElGuaposTruckFarm 350 is only 3 speed? . Is possible to put transfer case and transmission from original ls? Thanks

@@johnlondon8554 You can use the transmission, but it takes some work and money to mate a transfer case to a 4l60e or 4l80e transmission (from what I've read anyway). The transfer case from the newer trucks has the front driveshaft on the driver side, and the older trucks need one on the passenger side. I think you can use a very specific NP241c transfer case that was used in the late 80s/early 90s that has the right pattern and input shaft spline count to mate to a newer trans, but they are hard to find. Otherwise, you'd need to use an adapter to mate the specific trans to the specific transfer case and make sure you have a compatible output shaft to work with the spline count of the transfer case. For me, with the stock gearing on the K5, the 3 speed works just fine. Not a lot of low end grunt, but with 3.08 gears and 33" tires, I'm rolling 2250rpm at 70mph, which is a nice happy spot for an LS engine. If you wanted to use an overdrive, you'd definitely need a lower gear ratio as well.

I have a stock 79 k5 and was wondering how hard it’d be time wise to this and what all it took never swapped a motor before
