I have a ‘72 #5513, changed the bracelet about 7 years ago along with Rolex service. Bought it new in ‘72, my everyday watch for 48+ years, the watch keeps perfect time, only regret, didn’t keep the box and paperwork. This timepiece will probably never leave this family. Nice tutorial. Thanks
My story is similar to yours. Mine is a 71/72 5513 (case no 322xxxx), but I bought it new (with papers) from a local jeweller in 75. They must have wanted to get it off their stock and gave a good discount off the displayed price. Good news for a poor student doing a well paid summer job! Apart from when it was being serviced, it has been on my wrist every day. I'm not a watch geek, but I had an idea that its value had increased a lot, but it was only when I found a shop in Singapore a couple of years ago with a massive cabinet of Subs that I realised what the market prices were like!! As you said though, mine isn't going anywhere other than being passed on down in the family.
I love my 1968 5513 the Dome crystal is amazing ,problem is the crystal is not sapphire so it scratches easily so when you wear a 5513 you must be extra careful not to bang it otherwise you will have to get it buffed out again and again ..
I bought my Submariner in 1969 in Vietnam. Last yr it was serviced again and according to the repair tech,it was made in 1965 or 66. Is this a 5512 or 5513?
Lovely watch and great info on the video, thanks for the HQ Milton reference. I also have a 78 5513, but with the Submariner at the bottom. Not is the same condition as yours. Had mine from new, only ever been serviced once. Bought it as a dive watch and used it constantly. Doesn't keep great time, but never did.
Hello Nigel thanks for posting your comment, they're not chronometer rated but if serviced are quite accurate, certainly accurate enough to dive with! If you've had since new a great investment also!
I paid £362 from memory the chrono with date was £420... out of my price range at the time as I was a very poor art student with a Saturday job. I've just had a quote to service... £900. :-(
Unfortunately Rolex have decided to cash-in on vintage watches by increasing the service charges over the last 3 years, happy to give you some advice if you want 07724 213 254, I'm also on instagram "genuine.rolex" Regards, Edward
Hey man, thank you for your video, fI a seller wants to sell this type of watch of 1963, how much can the seller expect? Have you any idea sinds you own a Rolex? Thank you in advance.
Beautiful example of a Maxi matt dial 5513. These things have gotten crazy expensive. I bought a 1966 meters first with a not so nice dial but all original never polished, including original rivet bracelet. Stopped wearing it when I saw what they are selling for nowadays lol. A Collector’s piece only now I guess.
evan h Hi Evan, I still like to wear my watches, they are more than tough enough to survive my desk job! The 5513 is such a great watch, simple and iconic!

Thank you. Very informative and good info and a great start in learning more about this watch reference.
Thanks so much for this. I'm in the market for a 5513 so this was amazingly helpful!
Fantastic video and an even better example of a 5513. That watch is a beauty.
Casey Adams thanks Casey 👍🏻

Very useful. Thanks

Matthieu _84 hello, the watch is not for sale.
Matthieu _84 hello, the watch is not for sale.
One of the best, period.
I am looking for one in my birth year. 1978. Is this for sell
how to do you know if the watch is fake or real?

Excellent example watch!
Knobexploit music electronics thankyou 👍🏻
Beautiful 5513! I also have a 78 5513 with a mark1 maxi dial, yours has the mark2 maxi if I'm not mistaken.
Subscribed👍🏻
Hi Jimmy, I think the 5513 is one of the best looking vintage Rolex you can buy
genuine.rolex agreed although when it comes to vintage subs I'd love to find a minty 5508! (Still looking)
Very good review,I have a mint 5513 1985 ,I'm thinking of selling or trading for a yachtmaster, would this be wise.
That’s really up to you, you should buy and wear whatever you want, personally I prefer the 5513
James English would be the worst decision to trade a 5513 for a YM but buy and wear what you like, thats key
The bezel is better than my 1996 sub.
Looking at one on eBay. It’s really cheap for a Rolex which makes me a bit concerned. Owner has no paperwork so I don’t know
I love how thin and minimal this old submariner is. Wish they would still make them like this. Divers today are excessively big, thick, and bulky.
I bought mine in 1968 from bucherer for 520 Swiss francs
You know the 5513 COMEX prototype has the comex printed on the caseback. Just sayin.... ;0)
The 5513 meters first is the Bond watch Roger Moore wore ….which this one is not
Hi, i just bought a 5513 maxi mk1 but it seems the serial number starts from 18xx,xxx should i be worried since they start at 5xxx,xxx
T Ratch hello! The serial numbers will tell you the year the case was manufactured, with your serial it should be circa 1967, so no problem
A 5513 with a 1.8 mil serial is a meters first, it means you got the wrong dial on it. Not good
It should be a Maxi three 5513
These cost £695 in 1989, how I wish I’d bought one!
Ian Hand in the late 70s a 5513 was circa £200 😂
I bought one used for £250 just after the Falklands '82. Never been serviced. Just polywatch the acrylic every now and again.
I did 1989 ,£690,still got it
My uncle paid $365 in 1978 for the one I recently inherited.
That's my grail watch.
The only buying guide anyone needs to know is not to buy one. Buy a newer watch that is not as delicate.
