Great review Alan I have a bottle of this bad boy on my shelf and I have to say it's just a high quality whisky that's at an affordable price. Long may it continue. Cheers 🥃
Have not had a Thompson Brothers that wasn’t very good to excellent. Definitely have to pick up more in the next shipment. Thanks for your review Alan AND the other comments that are endorsing this product. Cheers All!
I am glad you like it, I have a bottle open and a couple in my stash. I will try and get a couple more this year coming as I think 2024 will be the last year for this as stocks will run out.
Have a bottle of this on the way. The US retailer has a story about this on their site that I have never heard from anyone else about it. A Highland distillery had filled a marrying vat with 12 year old sherry cask's for bottling. Then, by accident, a very small amount of 6 year old grain Whisky was added to the vat. That made it 6 year old blended Scotch. The Thompson Brothers then bought the whole vat from the distillery and bottled it. They said this is 99.9% malt with just the grain mistake added. Again, I never heard anyone else say this, but they are the only US retailer for Thompson Bros so if anyone else has heard anything, chime in. Cheers Alan
Very interesting story. Question is: which Highland Distillery? Rumours are: Glenrothes Glenfarclas even Macallan. We dont know but this bottling is fantastic!! Cheers 👍😁👏🙋🏻♂️
Cheers Tim never heard that either, but i remember watching Kevin Grant and he heard that it was macallan teaspooned teachers, so not dure fella...however is bloody lovely fella...you should have got two ...cheers for dropping by my friend...
Fantastic Alan great review delivered with passion again. I have to agree this is a belter and permashelf drama for me. Had a long chat with Phil and Simon about this product @ GWF and the fringe festival and they smiled gracefully when I predicted the cask age and distillery
The TB/BSW, GS The Mermaid, James Eadie Dailuaine 12yo, North Star Blair Athol 16yo, Fife Whisky Bunnahabhian Stoisha 8yo Woodrow’s Kilkerran 8yo CS Sherry and SBLB Campbelltown Festival Bruichladdich 15yo Struggling to pick 5😂 Loved all above, what about you Alan
this one that you defo need to pick up Jeff and you have no excuse as this one fits right in to your budget zone....thanks for dropping by...happy holidays to you and yours my friend
Wow! The two you Scotches had this as a Baby? Those are two of my favourites!!! Sadly no one has brought this over to Canada yet. I think it will come soon since it's so, so good. Thanks for sharing!
Good stuff Allan. Its a G8 dram. Could be easy a Whisky of the Year for me. Im not big sherry fanboy but when sherry is dirty and funky im in. This nose is 99% Glenfarclas for me and bit remind me of BB&R sherry edition i had last year for £25. I just pour the glass and checking your tasting notes. You are spot on. Beautiful stuff. My bottle is less tjan half so i need a back up definitely but i think Thompson Bros release another belter next year. Hope so 🤞🤞🤞. Slàinte 👍😁🥂🙋🏻♂️
Thanks for reviewing Alan. Too much sherry notes to my liking, so I'm happy to leave this one for others to enjoy. Thanks for the bourbon matured recommendation (...haven't seen it here though) Slàinte mhath
It is great that there is a really good range of blends and independent bottlers giving us such choices. I’m really impressed with Douglas Laing who have given us some excellent Timorous Beastie Sherried Beast and the Big Peat BBQ Feis Ile to wet our whistle. Merry Christmas Alan and all the best for 2024.
Well is tricky because I don’t get to try that much so here goes 1 ) Big Peat BbQ Feis Ile. 2 ) Badachro Bad Na-Aclaise Port Cask 3 ) James Eadie Auchroisk 12 Sherry cask finish 54% 4 ) Ardbeg Wee Beastie 5 5 ) Lum Reek 12
Also an interesting thing I noticed which surprised myself after returning from my Scotland trip... I bought 9 bottles of whisky... more than half were blends! That's a definite first, and the most blends I've ever had on the shelf now... when the quality is coming, we whisky folk are buying!

Try the lowrie blend by Thompson bros, even better than both of these
