Which other movies do you feel Rotten Tomatoes gave the wrong scores to?
Natural Born Killers
The Hunted 1995 with Christopher Lambert.
RT doesn't rate the movies though. They aggregate the movie's reviews. If nobody liked it then they report that.
Spaceballs is one of the best parodies ever. And my kids liked the kid-oriented ones just fine.
Who the hell doesn't like National Treasure? Sure, it's not the most brilliant and riveting piece of American cinema, but it's a lot of fun, there's nothing wrong with it. Anyone who gives that a bad score is just looking for something to hate.
Yep
I loved National Treasure
What have I learned from this list: critics don’t like fun action movies or movies aimed at children.
Also, Steven Spielberg changed his feeling about Hook. He rewatched it after Robin Williams passed away, and he said he now sees why audiences like it so much.
National treasure is a classic
Some might call it a...national treasure...I'll see myself out
The Last Jedi is certified fresh at 91% on rotten tomatoes. That was the moment I stopped trusting their critic’s reviews.
many even on imdb are fake reviews used to boost ratings for a movie to be better or worse because others wish to control it. letterbox is your best bet for reviews
I thought that was the sequel to Space Balls. They never live up to the original.😂
The trick with rotten tomatoes is to just reverse the score - it is a scale of how bad the film is. Works spot on that way. So the last jedi at 91% means the film is 91% crap.
@@rianmacdonald9454so you know
How some sins are unforgivable?
It is still a good movie.
Wait some years. You Kids love the prequels just because you grew up with them, even they being shit (revenge of the sith, the best one, is a 6/10 at best). In some years the kids today will say It was great.
Not John Hughes in the picture there... that's Judd Nelson.
My thought exactly
How has this still not been corrected?
I thought I was going nuts, that is 100% Judd Nelson
The mummy trilogy is so good.
I am SO happy you put Hook on this list! It is literally my fav flick growing up....Absolute gem! Robin+Dustin Hoffmans Hook, Bob Hoskins SMEeee, Julia Roberts & the beautiful Gweneth Paltrow and Maggie Smiths Wendy. Perfect movie.
Equilibrium is one of the best sci-fi movies of all time
Loved it. One of the most underrated movies ever made.
My jaw is on the floor after finding out that Glen Close was the guy in "The Boo Box" in Hook. 😮😮😮
This is exactly why if you want to look up reviews for a real general consensus, then look at the audience scores/comments, ignore the critics.
even then i just ignore them as if i see a trailer and like it then ill usually watch the movie anyway and i have seen plenty of movies that i like but people said were bad and have never seen movies that people said were good for the simple reason i had no interest in it
@Knight Zornnah Exactly how it should be. I'd never personally recommend to anyone decide by reviews alone. Even films Audiences hate I enjoy myself 👍🏼
Equilibrium was an amazing movie! Loved it.
damn right - damn good film.
Never heard of it, until now.
Spaceballs is one of my favorite comedies...
The world just wasn't ready for it when it came out.
i just recently saw a "SPACEBALLS THE MUDFLAP" in the real world
@@DarkKnight52365
I just recently got my hands on a "I ♡ Uranus" t-shirt...lol
One thing I learned a long time ago….if the critics hated a comedy, I more than like was going to love it!!
These are great examples why I never look at the critic score and at best, only the audience score. I have seen and enjoyed everything on this list.
I wouldn`t even trust the audience score, unless it is tens of thousands of votes. Esepcially popular old movies from before the time of internet critics are getting bad ratings.
Also, be aware that negative critics can affect how you perceive a movie and can ruin a movie, which you otherwise might have enjoyed if you hadn`t listened to all the negativity. Don`t let others judge a movie for you. Judge them for yourself.
Aww, Hook. Became a pop culture movie and beloved by any fans. And I love Princess Diaries!
rufiooooooooooo
Spaceballs is a parody that surpasses its original
May the Schwartz be with you
I quote that movie to this day
I'm glad that I got to see a lot of these 90s movies in the theater when I was a kid. Nothing today compares to the 90s movies we had back then
We're lucky
@@DavidValladares I'm definitely happy I was a kid back then instead of now
are you saying that because of the nostalgia or you rewatched them now?
@@viaze3622 dude, I know we have better graphics and yadda yadda yadda today. Of course I'm coming from nostalgia. Even though I do rewatch some of these regularly. Trust me, in 35 years you'll be saying the same thing about the movies you grew up with, whether you rewatch them or not
@@Jaysin412 i bear sentiment to some movies i watched when I was a kid. Some of them are bad some are good.
I always felt the Bruce Willis's "Last Boyscout" could easily have been an "in-between" DIE HARD Movie between #2 and With a Vengence.
Because his character was degraded as a PI and an alcoholic, which works with the DIE HARD storyline!
Yeah. Most movie critics has very little sense of humor. Spaceballs (with the perfect hungarian audio track) is one of the most hilarious movie i have ever seen.
OK now re-assess Popeye (1980) also with Robin Williams
I haven't even heard of Equilibrium and reign of fire but now ill have to watch them. The rest of the films I've seen so many times I could probably quote every line. Great list Looper I can't believe they weren't liked or well received when they came out.
i just recently saw a "SPACEBALLS THE MUDFLAP" in the real world
This is a good list, but I would like to have heard a mention of Bob Hoskin's Smee character in Hook. I think he added to this divisive film.
The "critics" (aka access media shills) gave the movie Cuties an 87 on RT. But the new Mario is sitting at a 56. Tells you all you need to know about what they are all about.
It’s because the Mario film is a video game adaptation.
I been thinkin bout this idea so much lately. Thanks for making this!
10:52 That’s Judd Nelson on the right, not John Hughes, the screenwriter of Home Alone 2. Chris Columbus, the director, is on the left.
Jumanji, Mummy Returns, Cable Guy, Spaceballs, Die Hard with a Veng.. we're talking some excellent movies that I never stopped watching.
These are all classics. Just shows how useless critics have always been
I never understood the hate for Cable Guy. The film was mocked to hell, not even just by critics but actual tv shows and other films. Even as a kid, when it first came out, I got the humour and loved it, still to this day.
I liked most of these movies, some I loved and have watched over and over. I stopped reading critics reviews or believing them many years ago.
Cable Guy was great! It never deserved the hate it got in my opinion.
"what's the matter Colonel Sanders?? .... chicken?!"😂😂😂 Damn, that's out there
All these movies are great 😢
All of the movies are awesome, and I saw reign of fire in theaters and it was and still is a great movie!
"Jumanji" is 1 of 2 Robin Williams movies that I saw once & am in no hurry to watch again. I found it too dark and mean-spirited. (For the record, the second is "What Dreams May Come"). You also couldn't pay me to see a "Home Alone" movie or "Step Brothers" with Will Farrell's one-note screaming man-child schtick. I've seen 9 of the other movies listed here & loved every single one of them.
Spaceballs is f*cking awesome!!
With one or two exceptions, I enjoyed all of those movies and even have a few on DVD. Working for Blockbuster Video for my college career taught me not to listen to critics as some movies with high critical praise I have found boring, dull, or just plain bad.
Not sure why Judd Nelson was pictured instead of John Hughes….
Is that really a picture of John Hughes or is that Judd Nelson??? Am I crazy???
I watched Reign of Fire in a sneak preview, dubbed in german and it was dull AF. I revisited this gem in OV and damn I like it a lot.
I loved all of these!
Critics generally dislike comedy movies. It`s clear that critics think too highly of themselves and have no sense of humour. Comedy isn`t appreciated. They just want more drama.
A comedy movie with a rating of 50% or 5/10 upwards is usually a great comey.
Just watched Equillibrium for the first time a couple months ago.. it was great.
John Hughes grew up to look a lot like a grown-up Judd Nelson.
That was not John Hughes. That was Judd Nelson
So glad reign of fire is on here
Best dragon movie ever
I was 12 in 1994 with Jordan everything including J8's, never watched Space Jam to this day.
Now you need to do a list of films that critics praise, but audiences don't.
Boy John Hughes sure looks different 😅
Lol yeah he looks like Judd Nelson
When Princess Diaries came out, I confused this with A Royal Pain by Ellen Conford.
i love Space Balls
Space Jam is a movie where the critics were 100% correct. That movie was little more than a cynical cash grab then, just the same as today. The only people who love it were the ones who can’t take off their blinders when they saw it in elementary school.
I'm about to blow your theory. I was a married adult when the movie first came out. I also hate basketball. And yet, I found the movie to be a lot of fun.
This is another list that 10 for 10 I watched as a kid/teen.
The mummy should be way higher than the stupid taken movie....
This is why I only use the site for the audience score and ignore the Critic score.
Space balls should've been the title for star wars, bc it's in space....and it's absolute balls 😅
10:52 John Hughes looks just like Judd Nelson! Hmm...
1. I really liked Jupiter Ascending. I liked the plot, setting, and even the main bad guys terrible voice.
2. Ever watch Mystery Science Theater 3000? They watched terrible B movies from the 60's and 70's, and made fun of them.
I have often wondered how critics became experts.
Anybody can eat popcorn and watch movies and
give their opinions....
Ring of Fire was so fun one of the best dragon movies
spaceballs is honestly pretty bad. the dark helmet stuff is great, but it's the b-plot. the a-plot with lone star is very very dull, especially everything with the princess and joan rivers.
Why do you have pictures of Chris Columbus and Judd Nelson, instead of Chris Columbus and John Hughes like you mentioned in the video. A little odd, just sayin'...
I never understood the critic and audience scores or why they’re so different at times. Are critics not in the audience when they watch the movie? What makes them so damn special other than they’re getting paid
They know what you like and need. Just like all the Hollywood stars know exact what's good for poor
@@higherlifts420 they know what we like need but are doing it backwards or just plain not doing anything about it. It’s no coincidence this came out just a few days after Mario. No woke bs or anything. Diversity is nice and all but forcing diversity is just as bad forcing racism. Just let diversity happen naturally if the actor is good. And no more cancelling cartoon characters.
About jumanji, olny a bad point was the spanish traslation, in latinamerica we have two dubbling works, one in México and other in argentina, mexican traslation was great, but in the argentin traslation, the voices sounds... Strange
(do a good, job, but the mexican traslation gives more natural voice)
Did he even mention rotten tomatoes? I didn’t want to watch a recap of B-movies to not find out how he thought the aggregator site was wrong. But, hey, I just skimmed it for two minutes, my suspicion could be incorrect. Wah-wash..
Die Hard with a Vengeance is my favorite movie. 😂😂😂
That's a picture of Judd Nelson, not John Hughes......
Most of these movies top my favorite movies of all time list! Just proves that critics have no taste
If the critics like it I avoid it. If they hate it I'm sure that I'll like it. Critics do have some use. I call it the negative critic indicator.
Spaceballs is hilarious thats all I know
I think that this list largely consists of mediocre movies that the writers saw when they were young and less critical. I am an old fart and saw these movies as an adult. I was not impressed, well, except for Spaceballs which satirized the previous decade of space-adventure movies. Jumanji, for example, was pretty scary for a kid's movie and the CGI looked pretty bad even in 1995. Bad special effects are considered "more charming than disruptive" mainly by those who had fond childhood memories of the movie in the first place. i have yet to meet anyone who was an adult when they first watched Space Jam or any Home Alone movie who consider the good movies.
The original space jam was great. Can't say much for the new one, how could rotten tomatoes score of that badly?
You are literally listing all my favorite movies. Screw Rotten Tomatoes
Ah, the good ol days before everyone was trying to "subvert our expectations "
Home alone wasn’t a hit with critics? really? 🙄 yes the sequel has some similar storylines to the first but it also different since he is in New York after all Space jam is a nice film but the effects are a bit outdated would have been different for people the time it was released and The princess diaries films are good what are critics talking about?
Network tv gives you five minutes between ads. RUclips might give you three.
I disagree about “Step Brothers”. That movie is garbage no matter how you try to view it. Like the old scrapyard owner in “Christine” said: “You can’t polish a turd.” ANY Will Ferrell movie is solid proof of that.
Judd Nelson?
The only good movie is Equilibrium. The others are mostly guilty pleasure.
Do film critics have codified rules that are used industry wide to review a film? Are they supposed to be rating based on a film's artistic merit or whether they simply feel that moviegoers will find it entertaining? It seems like movie reviewer aren't held to any particular standards and may review a film anything they wish for whatever reason they choose.
Spaceballs is lame. And I say that as a person who went to see it in a movie theater when it was first released. Twice.
I get the opposite take movies that have great reviews but are garbage. One movie that fits this list is Lost In Translation. I was waiting for something, anything to happen. It did not entertain or was enjoyable to watch. You can't change my mind. Sophia Coppola got an Oscar for best directing but the movie felt flat for me.
How many of the movies on this list predate Rotten Tomatoes?
How is step brothers in this? Shocked me so much I almost fell off my dinosaur
I never fully trust critics but Reign of Fire is great, but what truly stopped me from ever caring about what critics say was one critique of The Man of Steel. A critic actually said is was no good because it was to comic bookie. In other words A Superman movie is bad because it’s to much like a comic book. What in god’s name did they think they we’re watching. It’s Superman, it’s a live action comic book. Critics are idiots.
Rotten tomatoes is probably the worst website to figure out good movies. Just my taste
Slender man is great movie but rotten tomato rated it bad since then i never rely on the public rating websites to see a movie
Professional critics probably do not like movies based on Internet creepypasta stories. They probably think that Slender Man stories were created by amateur writers. It turns out that Slenderman creepypasta stories ARE created by amateurs.
All great movies imo.
Wouldn't want to be a movie you think is bad if you reckon all of these are greats
I don’t trust critics anymore
I just don't care about critics for a long long time and the oscars..
Boondock saints got a 29 on rotten tomatoes
The Movie Hero 2003
I never watched Space Jam, but that's because I never wanted to. I never liked Michael Jordan, and that was enough to convince me not to see it.
I want to add that I never saw Hook either, and had no desire to. This however was because didn't like Peter Pan.
Comedies, Action and Horror films never win Oscars. And it is almost all I watch. Critics are just drama queens.
Silence of the Lambs: "Hold my beer."
I love every last one of these films lol f the critics
Raising Arizona was funny
Anytime i see a low score, I know the movie will be good.
Watch The Room, a movie with 0 percent, it will be your all time favorite movie then😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
I don't get why we have movie critics anymore, most of them are idiots, and only rate Oscarabate movies well. And with the internet today being available to pretty much everybody, you can get thousands of independent fan/movie goers views withing a few hours of the movie being released.
