You like override dog fights, keep it up. Try using hornet when you can. Try a few tests with the ACS way off, and do a demo of how hard you can make sharp turns. I have subscribed.
A few years ago I was flying back to the UK from Bydgoszcz airport and my flight was delayed because two Polish air force mig29's had got a bit carried away chasing each other and had to land there to refuel. Everyone else was peeved being made to wait, I couldn't have been happier seeing the migs!
There is a repair and maintenance facility for those Migs and also F-16s there so that's why they were landing there. They do the tests every now and then. I had to opportunity to see one of those Migs flying in the tightest circle with full afterburners over that airfield, sensational experience.
@@LongShotChannel longshot, do you think that it is possible for a MIG-29 to beat a flanker in real life? I know that DCS is pretty accurate I just wondered
LongShot, I continually see some of the best DCS flying from you. 5:02 is a prime example. Superb execution "over the top". You display excellent mastery over your jet. I find your energy management is top self stuff. I recall an F-15 video about 2 years ago and you maintained M.9/600kts through most of the fight 2v2 and you executed a similar over the top maneuver but at higher altitude and speed. Your timing and positioning was perfect in that video as if it was a planned or orchestrated ACM. I believe you are a bit of a chess player in DCS... 3D Chess Master. I don't think you get the credit you deserve but no need to worry; WE know.
Really enjoy your play-by-play - both explaining what you are doing and what bandit is likely to try. Feels like we're right in the cockpit with you! Thanks, LS.
A pilot that is currently teaching me in school commanded a squadron of MiG-29's in Poland in the 90's (quite possibly the one you got the paintscheme for) and he likes to talk about fighting the M-2000C in squadron exchange. Maybe you could try recreating that? He told me about how well the french fought against them in the beginning, but started to lose once MiG pilots learned how to force vertical fights to use the additional engine for their advantage. (There's a period accurate paintjob for the mirage with polish squadron emblems on it's underside, It's called "Mirage 2000C (repaint "2-EN") EC1/2 French AF & 1REG Polish AF, 1993)"
@@roman335i Yeah, the first MiG-29s were procured from Soviet Russia in 1989. Then, in 1990 we got 10 from the Czech Republic in exchange for W-3 helicopters. The last ones were bought from germany for the famous 1 euro per plane.
Another great video Longshot, Two flaws I've found with the Mig-29, 1: Their relatively low fuel capacity relegated them to short-range air defense missions. 2: Lacking HOTAS and an inter-aircraft data link, and requiring a very intensive "heads-down" approach to operating cockpit controls, the MiG-29 denied pilots the kind of situational awareness routinely enjoyed by pilots operating comparable US aircraft. Pilots who flew the MiG-29 thought this likely prevented even very good pilots from harnessing the plane's full combat capability.
That last round was just pure joy to watch and so clean. A few mistakes and its over. Well they did have the 29 with full 360 nozels. Very educational 👍
Outstanding flying and a pleasure to watch. As you commented, each pilot was trying to turn the fight into the type that he favors which makes for a very entertaining show.
We GOT to get you flying against Growling Sidewinder. You both talk the same way as the fight continues. "...he's trying to get me into a 2 circle, not going to fall for it, U will just be patient and let his kinetic energy fall off and then pounce on him...just like that" as he flies thru a fireball. Love it! Liked and subbed.
Big Fan longshot! Been watching your channel for a while now. I got into dcs because of you and growling. I’d love to test my skills against you in BVR/BFM match. See if I’m as good as I think I am 😂
1. I love this channel. 2. You and GS both have the infuriating tendency to not make sure your opponent is deader than dead. Drives me nuts! 3. In a 1v1, if you tag him with one burst, give him the entire magazine and any remaining missiles you have. Make his cockpit look like it's full of chunky salsa. Give his family nothing to bury. 4. Keep up the great work!
Looks so cool. Worth to mention that Polish Mígs were modernized and changes (new MFD and HUD) in the cockpit are not reflected here. This video rocks.
I remember back in the mid 90s the guys who made Falcon (AT, 2.0, 3.0, etc..) made Mig-29 and I remember it had a computer controlled trigger mode where the gun would fire when a hit was guarantied. Does DCS do that?
Please bring Sabre back with more videos! One of your best opponents of all time. It was such a natrual fight where you reacted without even seeing the bandit react!
When using onboard machine-gun, you should turn, swing the joystick to left and right with big frequency - it will help to do result in difficult cases - in cases that seemed imposible to do.
That was a great dogfight. The only mistake I can really say anything about was that stupid cobra move right in front of your nose. More stupendous was you missed that easy kill. Someone mentioned a chess game like dogfight, I agree. You can clearly see both pilot knew how to push the fight they wanted, it was all a matter of who was gonna get it. I love watching your videos.
Not fair that Mig-29 DCS models don’t emphasize the Pugachev Cobra maneuver. The Mig is at least as capable as the Sukhoi (non-thrust vectoring) to complete the maneuver.
Hi Longshot, love your work but, how could you pick an aircraft with a huge bullseye right between your wings on the top of your aircraft? You were just asking to be shot.
Limited fuel? Yes sir - winning the rate fight at one degree per seconds means you'll probably run out of motion-lotion before you're able to take a shot. The Germans love their MiG-29s but found them crippled by the lack of fuel. Apparently, it makes the MiG-21 feel like it has long legs...
You made a mistake at the very merge. Always try to be slightly BELOW your opponent and then lead turn UPWARDS towards him slightly before you merge (about 300-400 m, but you need to experiment). It works even if you don't lead turn at all, but a proper lead turn is optimal. If he goes up as well, you'll find yourself in a vertical one circle fight with you being inside his circle. If he goes down, it's actually even worse for him, because you'll be in a two circle fight, but you'll be at the top and he will be below you after half a turn, so you have a little energy advantage with angles being roughly equal, but you'll have Earth's 1g assisting your next half turn. One more thing - when fighting in a downward (descending) spiral, the fighter whose spiral is more shallow wins - because the one with the steeper spiral will hit the deck first and will have to level out in order to avoid crash. Thus, you need to be as slow as possible, try lowering your flaps too. If you see your opponent sinking faster than you, it's a sign you're winning. Try it yourself against a human opponent, same plane, same fuel. You'll see the results.
Longshot I kave a question and if you don't know no worries. Did the Russians build conformal tanks for the Mig and Sukoi like the F15 has to overcome the range problem?
I think they didn't. To say more - try to find photos of a Flanker with drop tanks. You'll have a tough time finding many of them, if any at all. Cause Flankers already have a very impressive amount of internal fuel in comparison to other fighters, so they don't really need any additional tanks, nor ordinary, nor conformal.
6:45 was simply stunning! It was like a painting you see in a wing commander's office, from their exploits dog fighting back in the day. Beautiful livery too!

Love this video. Shows skill on both sides. Thanks to Sabre for keeping it interesting.
Thank you
god the su33 is fucking HUGE. seeing you both slow in that knife fight 1 circle really puts how big the flanker is into perspective.
sick video as always, LS. i love how you get multiple camera angles in there and plenty of shots of the exterior
This insignia on Migs spine has historical significance "the straighned scythes"
"303"
The battle between Catholics and Orthodox.
At one point you both looked like rutting elks, horns entangled, spinning around each other. The slow speed fights were amazing!
I can’t stress enough how important it is to disclose a flanker’s fuel state at the beginning of these rounds.
Longshot, your graphics settings are the best. True jet candy.
