Back in the old days, you have to boil and squeeze the juice out of the sour tamarind fruit instead of that powder mix.

sinigang would be better if you guys boil the meat with the onion and tomatoes. then add the fish sauce. It would also be nice if you put Radish, eggplant and stringbeans. Then after that, put the Sinigang mix. Also add Kamote tops and Green Chilli for spice.

I couldn't be more proud of what you do. Cooking and appreciating Filipino cuisine. Thank you for bringing the dishes to your friends in other countries. Just to share this from my personal experience: For those who chose to live or work in other country, one good solution for you to break a wall of bias in you towards your new place and neighbours as well as getting along with them fast, is to learn to eat and appreciate some of their foods. When you've done that, you will see a things differently, and see much more amazing things and people around you than it once was.

  • @LegallyPink

you can do it without the sinigang mix pack.. just use fresh tamarind. boil the tamarind fruits (no need to peel) until tender and squeeze the juice using strainer. add the juice and the water used for boiling the tamarind when the meat is tender.
no need to use gabi or taro. not all filipinos put gabi in their sinigang. but if you want to use gabi, just peel and diced. then boil the gabi until very tender that you can smash them. put the smashed gabi to thicken the soup. you can add this at the beginning or even after the pork is already tender.
by the way you can add fresh raddish and green finger chilis for extra tastes. you can add them when the pork is already tender and before you drop the spinach.

holy molyyyyy thats a lot of tamarind powder! 😱😱😱 normally, we only put less than half a pack because the tamarind flavor is very strong. we usually cook sinigang in a huge pot for 8 servings with one forth of the packet, so i can only imagine how sour the sinigang you guys cooked in this video. i hope this experience doesnt make you guys not like sinigang because it's one of the best filipino dish out there!

if you have no quick easy packets, just look for tamarind(unripe) or kamias(bilimbi) or anything that is really sour except for lemon and lime(I'm not sure with it, but you can try) or you can also use sour mango(unripe).
Just get the extract of chosen fruit and mix it before the pork or beef started to become tender.
The thing that made the soup thick was the "GABI" or TARO, you have to put it when you add the water

Annyeong! Not bad for a first time. We do use sinigang mix soup packet often since its handy and convenient. When its available in the market, we also use it (fresh tamarind). We use more veggies too (okra, string beans, water spinach/spinach, raddish, taro if available, and finger chilies). Can also be cooked using fish, beef, chicken or shrimp. You can adjust the sourness by putting or lessening the amount of sinigang mix or tamarind you use. Other souring agents can be used as well.

We usually use the root crop gabi. some use packet for convenience. but if you wanna do it naturally or traditionally how Filipinos do. we use vegetables and fish sauce. after you sear the meat then add water and same time add gabi and ginger and tomato. boil til meat is tender. then add tamarind or kalamansi. depends on your taste preference. i prefer kalamansi because it also add aroma to the dish. then lastly add the leaves of your preference. spinach/kang kong/ sweet potato tops.

  • @romeldelacruz770
    @romeldelacruz770 6 лет назад

I used to boil pork meat, onions, tomatoes and the sinigang mix all together add 1 tbsp of salt and add fish sauce later to taste. When the meat is tender I'll then add all the Okra, string beans, radish, eggplant once the radish turns something like faded white then add the swamp cabbage (kangkong) or cabbage and some banana chillies to add some spicy kick. I could consume 4 rice servings with this :D

we use packets for convenience. but parents and grandmas style are using tamarind, the ripe ones. put it in a bowl, pour some hot water (lets say a bowl for 3 stalks of tamarind), let it sit like 5 minutes then press with spoon till you get its sour flavour. that's it.

I'm so happy watching your videos, iam so pleased that you like the dish, sinigang or tamarind base soup, varies from every region we have in Philippines. There were some region doing same thing as you did, which is sauteeeing onions, garlic tomatoes along side with the pork or chicken. There were some also region in my country that they were just boil this ingredients. I mean how ever or what ever process of cooking you do, using all those ingredients it is still called sinigang. Now adjusting those too sour taste in your sinigang my advice is don't put all those pocket tamarind that you have, start with half amount of it, taste the dish and if you think you still need to add more then add a few more. And sinigang really is perfect dish if you eat it with white rice. If you could use also some chili just to put a little kick to the dish it would be awesome. Anyway you've done absolutely great. You give justice to a humble Filipino dish. Best regards. And thumbs up for both of you.

It all depends on how much time you have for example if your in a rush to prepare the dish then go use tha packet but half of it will actually we never use the whole pack. Plus we don't actually consider it as a soup and its normally partnered with rice and some kind of seafood dish which is commonly fried

It's good with rice. You can also make a traditional sauce. Kalamansi (like a small tangerines) sili (Chili the red one) and patis (fish sauce) add it all then u can dip the meat on it. Its perfect!!

I'm Filipino and we also use that packet for sinigang!! Love to hear that you've already tried balut! Sinigang is best when eating it with rice and you dip the pork into fish sauce!! If you wanna eat more Filipino food im willing to suggest some!

I make a sinigang with pork ribs, but I do not use fish sauce, and I use bok choy instead of spinach, I also put okra in it . my wife's friends think she made it (she is Filipina from Davao) we live in Texas I love that stuff.

As in any part of the Phillippines, Sinigang has many variation, nearby sea shore folks use fish (lapu-lapu, bangus, tilapia etc.) as they may prefer, some province prefer to use chicken, the vegetables that they use differs too. for me, i prefer to use gabe (taro) and banana blossom to make the soup more white and thick.

not all the time we use sinigang powder, only if we have no other options. We typically use gabi (a root vegetable) to make the sinigang soup a little thicker by mashing some of it, to make the sinigang sour, we have different vegies or fruits to make it sour, some parts of the Philippines use Guava, Kamias and the famous tamarind (Sampalok)

Most of us cook sinigang from scratch. It means that traditionally, we don't use sinigang mix (soup packet). Soup packets are used sometimes for commercial purposes or if you're in a hurry LOL.

There's a lot of flavor of that packet but some filipinos directly use the ingridients like the mango one they direcly use mango to make the soup sour

We use the soup packet all the time... However, using the fresh fruits really elevate the flavor. ++ There's too much onion in there HAHHAHA. I love this video , it's my first time seeing it ❤️👊🏻 God bless and mbtc

Not all of us filipino use pack sinigang and true we use half only or mini size.. some of us use real tamarind and do not saute it but boil the meat first add tomato onion some use ginger a little then the fresh tamarind we put it in a strainer until it soften and distribute the flavor / or packet then add vegestable like beans (sitaw) eggplant, taro (gabi) and dont forget the raddish (labanos) lastly the watercress or water spinach (Kangkong) leaves..add season of salt to taste.. serve with rice and friend fish..

Why is it so appetising watching Koreans eat food? Everytime I watch any Korean film with eating I start to crave food.
Enjoyed the video thoroughly, but I was a bit shocked seeing the whole packet being used... LOL 😂
Perhaps I got used to my wife cooking it to taste, only adding enough of the seasoning...

Best with rice, dipping sauce made of fish sauce and chili we called in "siling labuyo"
The amount of the tamarind sauce should depend on how much water and amt. Of the other ingredients you will cook. 👍

Usually we use the packet to make the sinigang sour especially in the city but when u go to provinces they usually use natural ingredients to make it sour like calamansi its almost the equivalent of lemon or lime, tamarind fruit, kamias or santol(i dont know the english term for these last two)😅😅 and yeah the rootcrops to make the soup thicker

@Eatyeot woah u guys are good but the way we cook sinigang at home is a diff version, we don't saute sinigang what we do is boil the pork first esp the ones with bones in it, then after about 20 min or so dish out that water from that boiled pork so you have a clean water and the fat has been drained sort of; then with this fresh water place the onions, tomatoes to cook along with the pork you can add some of the sinigang broth that you got in that pouch but don't use all of it as it will turn v v sour, unless you're cooking for 4 servings but if there's only 2 ppl at least even 1/2 of the broth will do, we also add jalapeno to make it a bit spicy and also when you feel the pork is halfway ready we also add daikon and fresh taro (the latter takes a while to cook so we microwave it for at least 4 min) to be added, otherwise it's optional, but it's good with daikon too as many koreans also luv daikon right? also we always eat this with rice! :) but you guys are good! :)

Nice video. Thanks for trying Sinigang Filipino dish which is one of Filipinos favorites. If you can't find Tamarind mix to make Sinigang you can use lemon juice and you can add 1 pc of banana pepper or jalapeno pepper that can add a yummy aroma to your sinigang, but add the pepper with the spinach and cover it. Enjoy.

We like it with Chinese green beans and mustard greens. I know you already added the fish sauce, but soy sauce should be added too, maybe some lemon. You need to squeeze the tomatoes with your hands. Great job!👍😋 You're VERY BRAVE to eat balut! LOL!

the meat should be boiled first with the onion and tomatoes until tender, add 1 beef bouillon and Sinigang powder mix, add taro/gabi cubes and simmer for maybe 5mins (depends how big your taro cubes are), add vegetable ad simmer for a minute or two, taste the sop and ajust according to your taste. serve.

The versions of the Sinigang varies on the region in the Philippines and as well as the palate of the one who cooks it.. In quezon province (w/c i came from) we like our sinigang as sour as the one u made, and we also have version called Binakol. The difference in Binakol is the water use for sinigang is coconut juice( entirely) with coconut shreded bits in it.

You may also add banana peppers or long green peppers (not spicy), radish and taro. Taro makes the soup thicker. Sinigang is best eaten over rice 🍚 and dried or fried fish as a side dish. 🙂
