Indonesian here, there's one key factor that lots of people worldwide who eats Indomie do wrong when they cook an Indomie soup: they use too much water! that's why it tasted too mild! i hope you'll try the chicken curry again with less water in the future..
P.S. in my opinion, Indomie being sold in Indonesia actually has quite a different taste with the ones sold worldwide.. the one you tried is the Chicken Curry flavor that is being sold for the middle east (hence the arabic translation).

Indonesian here. My opinion might not be popular, but as someone who love food with strong flavor, for soupy curry noodle, my go to is mie sedaaap kari special. The soup is thick and rich of flavour, waaayy more flavourful than the indomie one. The texture of the noodles is also better to my liking because it's bouncier than indomie. Regarding the Indomie noodles, I do think you may have done the curry one a bit wrong. The directions on the package call for 300 ml (1.27 cup) of water. It looked like you might have had more water than that, which would account for it being so mild in flavor. For the Mi Goreng (the bestselling instant noodle in the world, btw, and one of my ATF instant noodles), what you thought might be nuts was actually fried shallots, and the ‘paste’ was kecap manis, or Indonesian sweet soy sauce. The MAMA pork flavor noodle are also great, and if I recall correctly, are coated in some kind of seasoning even without the packets, and so are very tasty as a dry snack or in a salad. Have you had the Sapporo Ichiban Tonkotsu flavor? In my opinion the best Japanese instant Ramen ever, (of the ones I have tried). Also, if anyone out there is like me, who frequently eats two packets at a time, but only uses the seasons packets from one of them (so I can add my own flavorings, ingredients, and condiments), Ottogi sells plain noodles without seasoning. Great if you want to flavor your noodles from scratch, or if you end up with a drawer full of unused seasoning packets. Those noodles also have above average thickness and texture (as do the noodles from Samyang, in my experience) I have heard good things about the Paldo brand’s noodle texture, but I don’t think I’ve ever tried them.

Indonesian here! In case you’re looking for the taste of Indian curry spice in the indomie chicken curry, yes, you won’t find it.
Indonesia has our version of curry that is different from Indian and Japanese curry.
Ours is chicken broth (soup-like consistency) mixed with coconut milk and spices. It is quite mild in comparison to the thick and rich Indian curry.
you are spot on for saying it tastes like chicken noodle soup because mostly it is based on chicken broth.

Indomie Mi Goreng is such a good snack ramen (a little small to be an actual meal). They have a Spicy Mi Goreng flavor one too (which is also great when you want just a bit more spiciness). I'm not as much of a fan of the soupy Indomie noodles tho. The Mama Shrimp Tom Yum is really good, tho I just cook them in the pot instead of doing it cup noodle style.
If you're up for doing another round of non-Korean ramens, I'd suggest trying some of the following: Nissin RAOH Ramen Noodle Soup - Tonkotsu flavor is the instant ramen I go for if I want something closer to real Japanese ramen than most instant noodles (soy sauce flavor is also good, but tonkotsu is the better of the two). Prima Taste Singapore Laksa La Mian and Singapore Curry La Mian are both really good. Dressed up with some shrimp and some leafy veg, I honestly wouldn't be disappointed to get either in a restaurant (well, if I didn't know that this brand of instant noodles existed at least). Finally there's a Taiwanese brand A-SHA that has been making great noodles for awhile, but some of their previous flavoring packets were a bit mild and definitely needed jazzing up with a chili crisp (eg Lao Gan Ma), but the A-SHA Meteor Noodle with Danzai Sauce is actually quite good as is. Their noodles do have a really nice texture to them, with a bouncy/chewy "Q" texture when cooked -- perhaps because they're air-dried rather than deep-fried? A-SHA does also make the noodles for the (quite pricey) Momofuku noodles (and I'm guessing also the Trader Joe's Squiggly Knife Cut Noodles). (Both the Momofuku and TJ's noodles are good, but definitely benefit from a good chili crisp -- and both the Momofuku chili crisp and the TJ's Crunchy Chili Onion are good -- tho I personally default to Lau Gan Ma most of the time. The TJ's Crunchy Chili Onion is great for people who can't take handle much spice tho -- it is way milder but still has a nice flavor). Perhaps worth doing a 2nd round with some of these (and perhaps the Indomie Spicy Mi Goreng since the regular Mi Goreng was such a hit for both you and your audience)

So my mum would chop up onion and garlic and saute them in oil, my mum use to put a lot of veggies, like diced tomatoes, peas, capsicum and then sauce them real good, add the sachet , I personally like to add one finely chopped chilli in it and then add 1 cup water and then the noodles and let it cook. This version definitely takes a good amount of time but it was a comfort food for us.

All I had was a vague feeling of a sound I couldn’t even fully remember. Pancit Canton's flavor mix doesn't need to be mixed while in the bowl. It is best to mix by the time you'll add the cooked noodles. That way the flavor will be much more intensely good. Also Indomie Noodles doesn't have to have too much water, it is always prefered to have very little amount of water but for me I prefer it with no water, the taste would even make it better.

Indonesian here! My top tips (tested & true) in cooking THE Indomie goreng is:
    1. To mix up all the seasonings beforehand on your plate/bowl (do not add them after the noodles)
    2. Boil your water until it’s really boiling and then put your noodles and wait only for 1 min 10 secs max 1 min 15 secs if you like your noodles al dente like I do. Use a strainer to drain it.
Trust me guys, the key for the explosive flavour is actually lies in how long you cook the noodle because if you cook longer than that the noodles can get pretty soggy & make the taste gets bland.
If any of you read this comment & try it, please do let me know what you think 🥹🫶🏻

Commonly we add hot water to our indomie last to avoid too much water on its soup. For best taste, use another hot water, not hot water from your noodle. So you can taste the spice better. Probably works on other ramen too..

    Indomie lifehack :
If you buy Indomie (like the curry one), buy for the Indonesian market/south east asian market. Since most of other regions doesn't like stronger taste like us. Like in some flavor, Indomie (with the same flavor) for western and middle eastern market seasoning is different and in some case milder too.
Even Indomie goreng in Indonesia itself have different seasoning in some Indonesian region. 😂
And if you buy the non-southeast asian market, try to put less soup on it.

Grew up eating maggi as well hehe. After two decades of experimentation with it, I think the best way to eat it is: fry some chopped onions with salt and pepper in mustard oil, add some chopped tomatoes and fry slightly and then mash the tomatoes with spoon, scramble eggs, add water (1.5 cups? 2 cups? I like it soupy too!), add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, pepper, put the maggi in, let it boil, garnish with chopped green chillis and butter. (If you feel lazy then you can simply boil water with sliced green chilli, pepper, chilli powder and turmeric and then add the noodles and maggi masala, garnish with butter)

Thailand has several large ramen brands (Yumyum, WaiWai and a bunch of others) but MAMA is iconic. We dont say 'Do you want instant ramen' ~ it's always 'Do you want MAMA' even if it is a different brand. Perhaps its cause 'Bamee Gung' is too long to day but MAMA is basically the colloqial word for instant noodles.
There are so many MAMA flavours ranging from local Thai dishes, to Korean, to Japanese to whatever western fusion dish.
I must say that MAMA noodles must be eaten freshly cooked before they absorb too much water unlike Korean ramyeons which I find are better when cooked a little longer.

    • @boobee7907
      @boobee7907 2 месяца назад

Yea and if you like TomYum flavor you should buy either Mama or Yumyum they are really good. But I prefer Yumyum’s noodle since they’re more chewy and not as soggy as Mama’s after left in the broth for too long.
Waiwai’s noodles are a bit hard and brittle compared to the rest also a little saltier but that made are great in spicy salad.

@tressuni Maggies are generally not like other ramen. It comes in square/rectangle pieces. Since we Indians love spice a lot(at least me personally) How I generally eat Maggie is, cut some slices of panner into small square cubes, then pour oil in a pan, heat it up, then add mustard seeds to it(All while keeping the flames at medium as you dont want the mustard seeds to burn(they become bitter), then I personally add 2 huge tea spoons of Chilli powder, one tea spoon of turmeric, and one tea spoon of salt.
Next, I mix it properly and then add water to it(2 pieces - 2.5 cups of water) and then add the same no of Maggie powder in the packet given for each piece. Then, I stir it well so that the spice is evenly distributed. Then I add the panner to it and the Maggie pieces. I cover the pan and let it cook for 4-5 minutes.
This recipe is sooo good, ngl.

Trick to make maggi in 2 mins.
the water should be BOILING like EXTREMELY BOILING HOT. A good way to determine if it's that hot is to put some seasoning and if reacts violently it means you are at the right level. That's when you add the noodles and exactly at 2 mins turn off the stove. Leave it to cool down for a minute and you have 2 minute maggi.

Hugging a Shin Ramen 6 pack is such a mood though. I let my partner try some of my Shin Black last week when they'd only ever had cup top ramen from the gas station back in college [no stove top instant ramen and no ramen from restaurants] and they immediately said "new food unlocked". Actually a pretty big deal since they have some pretty rough food aversion episodes. Then they sent me out to get as many types as I could find of instant ramen and we had our own little tier list of sorts. :)
