But if the 20 who voted for the independent C, instead voted for the lesser of two evils B, B would have 55 votes, and have won, screwing over the nation a fair bit less. Now if we DIDN'T have this stupid 'first past the post' system which causes well meaning voters who vote hopefully for a third party to essentially sabotage themselves, it'd be another story. But that isn't the case, a third party won't win, and any votes that go to the third party will ultimately go towards screwing us all over if the worse of the two evils is the one who does win... He had been retired for nearly two decades, despite still being rather sharp, and was ready to let himself depart from this world because he was always the sort of man who could recognize when his time had passed. He was brilliant, educated, compassionate, and open-minded. I'm biased, but there are days when I think he could've run the country better than these two, even though his political opinions were different from mine. But Grandad knew when to quit. This is elder abuse at this point. IMO no one should be elected to public office past the official retirement age. Older people can share their wisdom as advisors, but especially in a branch of gov that’s supposed to be executive and make quick decisions, it’s important to have someone sharp.
That would also, hopefully, help slow the snowballing of power that can happen the longer you live.
But realistically, them rich old psychopaths would find a way anyway, just like lobbying and addons to important bills.

My grandad (born in the same year as Biden) died this year, of his own accord, when he decided to stop his kidney dialysis. He had been retired for nearly two decades, despite still being rather sharp, and was ready to let himself depart from this world because he was always the sort of man who could recognize when his time had passed.
He was brilliant, educated, compassionate, and open-minded. I'm biased, but there are days when I think he could've run the country better than these two, even though his political opinions were different from mine.
But Grandad knew when to quit. And I'm proud of him for that. I only wish my country's politicians had the same sense.
