I absolutely agree with your closing statement about the 1st Gen Forester. It’s exactly how I would describe my first 2002 forester, such a normal-looking car that while it gets overlooked by society, the adventures and places it took me were unforgettable: road-tripping from Chattanooga to Providence in one night, jumping a railroad crossing at high speed, driving in reverse with ease, and climbing up to the summit of Signal Mountain to impress a girl, taking it to an off-road park on a wet day and almost rolling it… it meeting its end on a trip to Atlanta and finally watching it get hauled away to Kentucky after I sold it for parts. Those events only took place in the span of ~9 months but I will never forget them. It’s exactly why I’m buying another '02 forester in the coming weeks, so I can continue the spontaneous, adventurous experiences I like to have. R.I.P. Humphrey, you were a great first car.
I love this review. As a ‘01 Forester owner, everything you said is 100% correct. Great video and keep up the awesome work! You just earned a subscriber :)
I recently bought a forester, its an 05, but reading all these comments are making me excited for the adventures me and my forester are about to go on.
I own a ‘01 Forester and it’s an amazing car. I have the S model which looks a little different but still runs and has the same features. It is a very reliable car and i absolutely fell in love with it as soon as i was able to drive it.
I have this car. Same color. Even same dash covering. I love it. It's still my first car. Had it 12 years so far. Runs great, maintain it well. Hears to many more years together of driving through the snow and mountains like always. I will always drive and own only subaru. Your reviews of the car are correct.
my first car was a green 01 forester. it served me well i drove through blizzards and gravel and muddy trails and all over the place yet it never got stuck
Just bought my first car. That being an 02 forester s, so I got the top of the line trim, including heated seats, mirror and rear window defrost, a massive moonroof, and the 5 speed manual, and I'm already in love with the little guy
This car is for sale and I am going to buy it! Literally saw it on Facebook marketplace in Illinois and am shook it's the exact same car from your video! Waiting on a reply now 🤞
I have the same car in forest green and I put coil overs on it, 1" spacers 5x100 to 5x1.14 and 17x8 bbs style rims with orange spike lugs and orange tow hooks and other orange accent. 260k all original drive train, motor etc. I picked it up for 1500, put radiator and complete stock exhaust with a twin loop muffler on it. All original interior and it's really clean. It's not fast on straights but in curves it's go go go. When in doubt throttle it out is an understatement. It's like a video game when your passing everything on the inside
20 years old and still getting reviewed. Lol Amazing little capable SUV, runs forever once you properly fix their infamous H/G leaks.. Had one and did every single repair on it myself, very easy car to work on. l really liked it.
My family has one of these and I love it! Great car! Its one of the reasons it got me into cars and my love for Subarus Edit: 6:06 even has the same seat rip!
Okay, you got me on this one. Subscribed. Now that I know that you have a passion for Subarus as well as RX-7s, like I do, you definitely have my attention!
I just picked up a 2001 S with the manual. It's got a few issues I need to take care of, But I really like the responsiveness, and the character the car gives off. It has that car feel, But I can load my dogs in it with no hassle.
you see, I own both an RX8 and SF5 Forester. my wallet thanks me very much! I gotta say though you're absolutely right about the Forester being able to take you pretty much anywhere (within reason). great lovely little outdoorsy automobile ^^
The BFB test was made for this car! In most stock models there's an opening on top of the centre console with an arm underneath the lid, which folds down to hold big friggin bottles up to 1.25L.
I could be an outlier but I miss the forester designs of the early gens. The boxy, rather utilitarian designs spoke true to its capabilities. I’m on my 2nd forester - a 2017. Still great, can’t complain. Except sometimes I feel it feels a few more ponies under the hood 😂
Driving one right now. MN snow- no problem. Blizzard? As long as there's visibility- no problem. "Trunk" space and roof rack are great for camping. Head gaskets can cost you... but otherwise, fantastic! In that basic, paired down fantastic way. And true on the power- not fast, but strangely agile and fun to drive.
I bought a 2001 Forester for $1. Long story. The engine finally gave up after a couple years (275,000 miles). I recently dropped a rebuilt engine in it. It has a CD player AND a cassette lol. I only burn non-ethanol fuel. Alcohol is for drinking, not burning
An affordable car with not many features? Lol these were loaded back in the day with everything you could want standard. You really seem to not judge cars against what they were like in their era. No point comparing a 20-40 year old car to a new one. All i drive are 80s cars they just seem right. I have a great grasp of what cars were like back then, shitty. But theyre still great, average power for the late 80s was around 90 in 4 cylinders. 140 for v6s. GM A Body cars with the 2.8 were quick. Practically a fuel efficient muscle car with an amazing sounding motor. Kinda ranting cause i just got an 02 Forrester and man those are loaded compared to anything a couple years older. Im not sure what happened in like 1998 that made cars actually good lol
ehhh the base model had no sunroof, drums in the rear, no cruise control, no heated seats, no heated window/mirrors, an open diff & a pretty bad interior even for the time.
Not exciting car? Try a turbo one dude, manual. You will be excited . Not because its too fast on a tarmac, and not because its off-road abilities better than true brutal 4x4 cars. But because it can do both of those disciplines pretty good, when others can not ❤
My untie this was back in 2016 my untie had a 1999 tho 1999 Subaru Forester but in 2017 somebody hit her and let’s just say she don’t have that car now I miss that boy
I have a 01 forester and i have an issue when steering to the left i hear a clicking sound . Can anyone help me please and i need a website to order it since I’m outside of US 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Do you not use your turn signal turning right 🤔 sarcasm 😁 worn constant velocity joint 😬 replace or rebuild cv or drive shaft 👌 if you don't you will break down & giving the shaft !!!
The main advantage of the Forester is it's behavior off-road. Unfortunately you did not relate to that. So it's just an old station wagon that carries a sub.

so long old friend, the best friend

It Really Is! We Gotta Spread The Word!

Most def the best body style. Still rocking my 2001 Forester in 2023.

Bang bang Subaru gang.
The comment about the Subie taking you to the interesting locations was spot on.
This generation of forester is my favorite

my family l=has owned 2 2001 foresters and we have taken them all over Canada on countless rugged back roads. they are so dependable

Many memories made with a family friend’s 1G forester
You killed it ! Great review with plenty of character! Outstanding ✌🏼

Did you replace the H/G yourself?
@@oldschoolgoblin Yes I did.
@@Mike_44 how much does it cost to get it done from garage ?? Please help
We just purchased a similar car, automatic. Thanks for making this video. I learned a few things that I did not know.
Just got an 01 forester. Drives way smoother than my 04 ranger and has more power than my 11 patriot.
My family has one of these and I love it!

The cup holder wasn’t fully open, it folds out further to hold large cups, possibly not super sized though….

it may not be a rocket engine but it's practially from a cessna 172 airplane lol
I need a first gen Forester 😊

So I have a gs400 with a 3uzfe. But that needs more power so would it be possible to swap a bulletproof torquey v8 in a forester but still have awd
And there's a 85 rx7 all mint 70k sitting around the corner from me and I want it but....guy said he's not shure what he'd ask.
my brothers moms son had one of these and loved it, btw how do i replace the pistons in my rx7? one of them fell out and i cant get it to go back in.

is it worth it buying one in 2022 with the expectation that it will still hold on for a good 5/6 years? or is that too much to ask? haha
In general, yes. But it depends on the maintenance history, etc. If head gaskets are done, it should last another 100k
Seems to be rusting really good

They look ok, the plastic bumpers just make them look really cheap and tacky imo
I want one now lol
Stupid bottle test.
SUV's with manual transmissions🤮😖☹️
