I'm more of a knitter than a sewer and this year I've knit a sweater for each of my 3 grandchildren, 5 hats, a pair of mittens and a pair of socks. Next year I plan to cut back on the gift knitting and make some things for myself.

Love the pinafore dress! Yes..every year I make something for my grown kids and their significant other. One year I made the men vests and crocheted shawls for the girls. Last year made ten reading pillows for family, and for friends and neighbors wine totes. This year I decided to cut back and since I don’t think they realize how much time and effort goes into these gifts a “few” are getting bowl cozies. I have made rope baskets, aprons, potholders, and tote bags but I think I’m over making gifts. In the meantime I sew for a dance studio and embellish on their costumes and make alterations. I too don’t like to make garments for others. If I make a mistake on something for me…oh well…but I get stressed cuttings and sewing for others. I so enjoy watching you!!!

That material will make a beautiful coat. Love both versions of your newest pinafores and the fringe is cool. In the past I’ve made jewelry for people, crochet n knitted scarfs and afghans. I’ll also usually make a cross stitch project n frame it for someone. This year I’m making individualized fleece blankets for all the grandkids that will be here for a week as part of presents to them . Probably not as special but I know they all love lounging with a blanket on movie nights. Just finishing up a 2 sided fleece blanket for my mom n will be shipping to her in a few days ( just have the top stitching left) I’m testing out different threads and stitches before finishing.

I am actually making pajamas for my family for Christmas. I just finished making M8165 view D, in red and black buffalo plaid for the women, very comfy and cozy. I am making the men, raglan tees with grey body and red plaid on the sleeves and neckband, and possibly a pockets, not sure yet. Having fun making these. I have been watching sewing videos for years now and this project is me plunging into sewing. I learned to sew in HS, very basic, but always knew how to mend clothes and sew things by hand like hems. I didn't have a sewing machine so that was my only choice. 3 years ago I bought my first machine and have been intimidated ever since to actually get started as I had that imposter syndrome thinking I can't really sew. But I made my niece a hoodie dress for her birthday this October and it wasn't perfect but it came out ok. Now making these PJs I am working out how to do things, how to read patterns (and understand them). And with each one I've made they have gotten better and better. The last one I made looks awesome! I even added in pockets per my niece's request, which are not included with the pattern (btw, the first set I made the seam is inside out, oh well, it is still wearable. = ) I am having so much fun making them that I am now motivated to try to make some items for myself. My next roadblock is that I don't want to make anything and waste my fabric while I am fat (yes, I said it). So, I am trying to lose weight and have already lost eight lbs, but have been struggling to get back on track since Thanksgiving. That's ok, I'm not giving up because I want to make things for myself AND I want to look cute wearing them.

I only sew for others on my own terms. If they ask its almost n automatic no. It takes the joy out of sewing for me. That jacket fabric is fabulous tho. Lol the toilet seat covers.. never thought of that one but I made padded picture frames till I couldnt stand it anymore. Im attempting a southwestern tote bag for my Sister, but otherwise, I think my gifts will be bought this year. Would rather sew for myself LOL

You Crack me up! I'm the same way! I don't want to sew for anyone but me!!! But I will make something for my daughter for her birthday and Christmas but I never tell her...I always make it a surprise! Yes! My sister used to make ice candles. I tried it once. Pretty cool 😎 👌! I made my daughter the poncho pattern with the tassels out of fabric similar to that fabric you have for your daughter. It's a beige and black and cream colors from JoAnns...I gave it to my daughter for Christmas and she loved it!

I'm not making gifts this year--I have in the past, also baked breads & tons of cookies & candies, but not this year. I only sew for myself, my youngest granddaughter mostly and a little bit for my grandson. You mentioned snow--none here in FL; the last time was a few flurries in 1989. In 1977 we got 1 inch of snow--it shut down the whole county--power was lost, schools & stores closed down. It was kind of funny that such a little amount could cause such havoc, where in the north, life goes on as usual with feet of snow! A very Merry Christmas to you & your family!

Hi Stephanie! This is my third video I have listened to since first discovering your channel a couple of hours ago. I absolutely love your jumpers, the colors are perfect, and they look so great on you. I have been thinking about making one (in the back of my mind). I also really love the top you are wearing underneath your black jumper, for its color but most especially for its sleeves. So, beautiful!
I loved the one I wore in my teens.

Yeah Stephanie- ‘ a damsel in distress’ that’s how to get chains put on your car!😉 Love those little dresses you made they remind me of little maidens dresses - cute 🥰
I’ve made a shawl jacket similar to the pattern you have out of a southwestern polar fleece many years ago and lined it and oh my gosh it’s so warm and comfy and when I saw your material I thought of it. Thank you for all your chats with us you are so sweet and inspiring! Have a Blessed Day & HAPPY SEWING🧵!!

Thank you for addressing the fact that sewing takes a lot of time. Stephanie, I make gifts all year by sewing and machine embroidery the people I do it for have no concept of how much time it takes. Stephanie, you are a blessing to me thank you friend.

Girl yes. This time of year is crazy busy especially as a teacher. I think I am going to start making videos next year and do Friday sews too. You’ve inspired me this year. And aaaaamen about not sewing for anybody but yourself. Honey I’ve been there and done that. I have that rule now too. I give them sewing machines now instead 😂. I’ve given two of my sisters and my mom a sewing machine. Anyways you are definitely a “friend in my head.” I enjoyed your video as always. Looking forward to watching the videos I missed while on Christmas Break ( four days to go!)

I love the selvedge hem on the maroon dress - super cute! I prefer the deeper scoop version as well. 🧵 I'm the same as you - I don't make things for others usually. I am going to make a jacket for my SIL. It's one I enjoy making and it's fairly simple so I don't mind - but I won't do it often! I'm not sewing gifts this year but I'm considering doing some ice dyed gifts on pre-made items (tees, socks, aprons, etc).

Loving those York pinafores but I just don’t do Indie patterns as I have hundreds of the Big 4 🤣. I have made a blouse and a shirt for my elderly parents and some pjs for my 30yr old son. He plays baseball in the UK so I shipped over from the US some Houston Astro’s flannel fabric 👏🏼. They are his favourite US team. You are right though, not only does it takes hours of our time we are also thinking of them every minute we are creating the gift. I had forgotten about your gloves video so I’m glad you mentioned it as I need some! Thanks and have a great weekend x

Ditto on sewing for others. If you don’t sew, you have no idea of the time it takes. Plus, it takes me double time to make something for someone else because, I am worried I’ll make a mistake or I want it to be perfect so, I am always double, triple checking my work and I feel stressed out.🤯. Just no fun! My daughter asked me if I could make a quilted jacket. She sen5 me a picture of something she saw on Pinterest. I have old quilts but nothing that I would want to cut up. I decided to find an old quilt or bedspread that looked like a quilt as a toile to see if one, draft a pattern from a coat I had in my closet and two, to see if it fit her. I must say, I enjoyed this project. I wont see her until Christmas. I’m anxious for her to try it on for several reasons; if she likes it and does the pattern fit her and if not, good for me! I just got a new jacket! Lol!

That is the truth. I typically will not sew or knit for others unless I am doing it as an unexpected small gift. Even knitting a hat takes a day or at least an afternoon. I just do not feel like people really don’t appreciate the work.

This year I’m making bowl cozies and microwave popcorn bags. I’m hoping to have time to make a couple of kid’s book keeper pillows with their names embroidered on them, too, if I don’t run out of time. I’m still working on Christmas outfits for the grandchildren. I really need to start this stuff in August, because I’m not speedy Gonzales when it comes to sewing. 😂

I do less and less sewing for others for Christmas. They don’t appreciate the work put into the gifts nor do I ever see then set out, worn, etc. I did make drink coasters made from clothes line rope with embroidered snowman features on them. Also a tray to place them in. I did 4 sets of those.

I’ve made a few yorks… try one in corduroy. As a tall person, a cut the cord across grain and added it to the hem. Adds something different! I also straighten the sides as the cocoon shape doesn’t really suit my shape.

  • @kes44p

Lovely makes, as usual. My Yorks - started with red corduroy, then made a green in cable jacquard (but found it became shapeless as too stretchy), then a green corduroy and a navy one too!! Those are my winter ones and I made a summer weight one in denim with a fish outline pattern on it. Since then I’ve moved onto Caladium jumpsuits and the M4M Juniper. With love from Wales (currently recovering from Nursery Nativity, a weekend of dance shows and school Nativity today!)

For the men I made aprons for grilling. I added an embellishment of something manly, example a truck. For our military men a symbols of the service they were connected to. For my farm home makers I made aprons for collecting their eggs. For the children wallets that hold a tabled and markers.
