    Thanks! I got to see a bit more of Carlsbad vicariously, too old to do much more now. I have been on the geologist tour and a survey trip to Mabels Room that didn’t come off as the instruments weren’t functional when we got there. That Boneyard area we went through was something else! Loved your starscape at the end.

    I'm glad you guys keep advertising the caves there's a lot of hungry creatures deep in caves there's always someone that gets lost . Feed the beast so he has no need to come out.

    Thank you for sharing. The whole video was well shot. While I'm sure all of us would love to go in person and know it's simply not possible, having this video really helps paint a picture of the amazing range of features and sheer size of the cave. Well done. :)

    Wow! This is really interesting and fun to watch, Derek. I tried to take an 8mm movie in a wild cave in Indiana about 50 years ago, and it didn't work out well, as you might imagine, so I appreciate your hard work. This expedition sounds like the kind of achievement Frank Earnest Nicholson might have been super proud to have accomplished all those long decades ago (or maybe not!). Well done! Wouldn't it be great if Carlsbad were connected to Lech?

      @@sanmarzano Hmmm. That's how I ended up down there in the first place. I don't normally work in that section, but I was contacted about a year ago by the now late Michael Queen to see if I was interested in a climbing lead he had left. We found the lead and it blows a gale on the edge of the cave, but gets too tight:(

      @@DerekBristol I did push trips mostly with Ben Billings, Amy Willis and her dad. Phil VanCleve was there at the time and has (had) a binder full of my photos. If you can send me a map I will try to locate where we left off. I prefer digital. peter@well.com

    • @DerekBristol
      @DerekBristol  11 месяцев назад

      Airflow patterns suggest they are not connected, but there is certainly many more miles of undiscovered passage yet to be explored.

    Just to understand correctly, you spent 8 days in the cave system? Also do caves have difficulty ratings like rock climbing? Lastly, how does one get access to these caves are they open to the public?

    • @nonethelessfirst8519
      @nonethelessfirst8519 2 года назад +1

      Hey bud so, apart from bein on an expedition team or surveying sort. My friend actually took a class at the college and was given permission. Now that doesnt seem to reasonable since you basically have to enroll for this college class. But apart from being a professional caver or a professional of some sort i dont think its really publicly open. And ive lived by it my whole life trying to get it. Now plenty of abandoned mines and nuclear tunnels and missle silos around you can explore. But the gov pretty much has a stranglehold getting down into the caverns where Normal people are not allowed. Its possible tho call the carlsbad caverns office see what a permit requires these days.
