THANK YOU Istg no one mentions this - idk what it is but they just feel like they’re lacking something? Doesn’t help that I never fully clicked with their designs either - unfortunate cuz their concept art was wicked Imo these two worked the best, and perhaps I’m bias cuz I played 2 the most 😭 but the contrast between their designs and personalities help them play off each other so well
@@wispaa In my opinion, deep cut lacks competitive dialogue and stakes. All their intro dialogue is usually smth like "I like this option." "well I like this one more" "what about this last one?" "I guess we'll let the splatfest decide" They don't really argue with each other, and it doesn't make me excited for any team. It's a hard contrast to both squid sisters and off the hook who actually do get a little personal with each other. It makes them feel like real people who are passionate about their opinions yk? Their splatfest results dialogue is usually the same. Just a "Yay I won" "oh no I lost" "ay I lost that sucks" and that's it. Not only is it less bland, but it also hurts the character progression of every fest that previous idols had. Take Frye never winning for example. The fanbase loves to complain about it, but in the game, Frye doesn't ever bring it up nor does she seem to be disappointed over and over again. Contrast that with Marina snapping at Pearl after losing three splatfests in a row. It just makes deep cut feel more cookie cutter. I think this problem really came through with the "shiver vs frye vs big man" fest. My main question/complaint towards it is: Why would I care who wins when they don't? The Callie vs Marie splatfest showed that this meant something to them and it changed their dynamic after the results were in. It was also built up with tension between every splatfest and was lead up with Callie confronting Marie about all the smack she talks in the Night Owl vs Early Bird fest. The Callie vs Marie fest had stakes and it meant something to participate in it because it felt like we the players were controlling where the narrative would go. All of deep cuts fests very clearly don't get to them or affect their dynamic, so why would I care if Shiver won instead of Frye? This doesn't change them in any meaningful way that would make me want to fight for one character over another. I heard an argument that the point of that fest was that their friendship was so strong and nothing could come between them, but again, the issue is that we never see them argue or be not chill with each other. Ever. There's nothing to make us believe that their friendship is in danger or is about to change in any meaningful way. I guess all of my points are subjective, and splatfests are just for bragging rights at the end of the day, but that's my reasons as to why deep cut are my least fav idols as of now.
@@shammyprops3869 cool to see another perspective on why they just aren’t packing as much punch as the previous idols - I didn’t notice all this before really For me in terms of their interaction and story they don’t get as much history to them? At least I haven’t noticed that from in game content but they were just a bit of a team rocket in the story mode and unlike say Pearl and Marina we didn’t get to see past snippets etc through stuff like the chat logs of octo expansion and such Did 3 have something like sunken scrolls? Perhaps I need a refresher there haha but I remember being able to learn a bit about the squid sisters there too as well as story mode and their past game
