I bought a used RX 570 that loses display connection (black screen) after some use, I was almost about to sell it as a defective unit. But I got inspired by your videos and after much troubleshooting, turns out someone replaced the thermal pads with cheap thin pads. I just replaced them with new thermal pads and now the card is stable.
Bad memory is (speaking from anecdotal experience) actually quite rare on 970s

Had the same memory eror on Msi 970 4gb,just reboledet it and its working fine 1 year already :)

hey, i actually have a couple antminers in need of repair but im no expert just yet. having a hard time finding any info beyond bitmain's diagnostic lights and "send it back" as the solution.
would you mind if i asked a couple detailed questions? (aka wall-o-text) honestly, probably laughably simple for anyone with a bit more EXP than myself. lol

hey bro...i love your videos....i have evga 970 with a similar problem but when i put on the riser no volt on pex,vcore or vram rails.....so after 10 or 12 secund the voltages apears but vram voltage is a little high...1.6 volt....is wanna know something about what could happens there.....please and thanks

Hi tech cemetery, can i ask something about gpu, if all memory banks reads error, where is the common fault in vram rail is? Is it the controller?
Could be bios chip that's dead or faulty memory controller. He made a video about it with the same issue.
@@malcolmyp247 thanks man, but the gpu is detected on device manager in computer when its on secondary device, using integrated display as primary, could it be a dead bios too even detected?

i am trying to use first boot the motherboard display so i can see the mats, but i dont know how to test the gpu vram, it detects the igfx of onboard graphics thanks

I have a similar board but it an asus matrix gtx 980 ti platinum which have i think faulty memory on E1 and F0 as I'm kinda hoping to get fixed as I did the usual checks with a digital multi meter as I get 20ish ohm on the memory phases don't see anything burnt on the pcb but the history of the card is abit unclear due to the issues that I had with it when I got it recently as the first one was pretty clear the two fans kinda failed which made the card overheat and when I was able to get it to boot I get tiny green artifacts on display when I changed the hdmi to dp using the dp to hdmi adapter the picture is clear but stuck on 800 x 600 resolution and the gpuid shows the specs but with memory size 0 / bandwidth unknown / bus width unknown. And ran mats/mods to detect which memory errors I get the write errors on E1 and F0 both have similar numbers in errors. Would this mean the memory chips needs replacing as they are the samsung. But someone told me it the gpu memory controller that failed. Havung abit of hard time debating whether to get the memory chip or gpu chip or both along with replacement fans

Any tip on the soldering part? I don't have the special tape for protection. Can I damage something if I put too much heat? (What temp max is recommended)
Good evening. You can use instead of kapton tape, a piece of alluminum foil, you know the type used in the kitchen to wrap around foods. Regards from Italy.
Too much heat will bobble up the pcb or burn it and also it can damage the chip, me personally I heat up the board to 100C via my BGA station and then 400C 60L/min on my quick 861dw. I think TC use 500C because he doesn't us a preheater under the PCB . For covering up the parts that doesn't need heat I use alu foil tape, but normal alu foil can work as well.

MSI ventus are trash, the 2070 series does not have a memory pad on the bottom memory exactly where the PCIE slot is. Stay away from MSI

let me tell you this, that memory bank was fine. you had heated the core indirectly by replacing the memory bank. mark my words, that card will artifact soon :)
