biodegradable and industrially compostable -> why is this a good thing at all?

It's a very good thing. Substrates typically used in hydroponics do not full biodegrade. In a commercial setting, what happens to all that waste? Growfoam plugs are TÜV Home Composting certified, alongside its TÜV Industrial Composting certification. This means they easily decompose in compost heaps under mild conditions. Commercial farmers can either compost the plugs or keep the substrate plug attached to the crop and let consumers compost at home this will relieve a massive reduction of a farmers waste disposal cost. If you are home growing it will allow you to grow hydroponically with the same performance as other substrates but without the negative environmental impact. We are in interesting times where we are seeing the development of entirely new circular products 100% made from recycled products that are 100% biodegradable.
