How to Remove and FIX Door Handle on Alfa GT, 147, and How to Prevent it from Breaking

For 147 owners, procedure can be shortened a lot! I replaced mine today. After door card removal, you remove 10mm nut that holds the hinge to the door. Then you can remove broken part and use very long screw driver to reach phillips screw that holds the hinge to the handle. After that you open new hinge 180° and put it in a handle to tighten it. Then you pull handle as if you were opening the door, that will give you enough space to close the hinge to normal position. Put back 10mm nut and you're done. Much much faster than doing this whole procedure but applies only to 147.
Did it before with replacement hinge on 147, although it is much harder on GT. In this case I had to repair the hinge, thus the full handle removal...

It depends if the actual broken part is the front hinge. I pulled it apart and the front hinge was fine, my problem was the red plastic piece was worn and was not keeping the rod in place.
Ingenious 😍 I have faced this situation with my GT and even the Alfa garage I took it to replace the brand new door handle was not too keen . It’s a pig of a job and only for the brave to take it upon themselves. Only Alfa can make a door handle replacement so painful 🙄.

Done today. Took apart as you illustrate, but suspected it might have come out without undoing the top two rod links. I reassembled these with the handle out, and yes, it will go back in with the rods already attached, just check they are taking the correct route inside the door.

Another excellent video! One thing: on my facelift 4 door 147, the door switch cluster is held in by a screw underneath the armrest. You can't simply pry the switch cluster out of the door.

Great work, of course😍. I suffered two attempts to access the repair, I succeeded on the second attempt, without disassembling the part of the rods, forcing, pulling the part of the lock. I was wrong😠, buying a hinge, for fiat 500, the cheapest around €6 on e bay...(for alfa gt it is a lot more expensive, around € 25). I had to modify, fill with composite, the screw pitch ... A nightmare😱, that to save € 200, ended finally, well😳.
I will use the multipurpose oil on the passenger side so as not to repeat that bad drink😰. Thanks again for these videos😍
You're welcome, it is a nightmare of a job, that's why a bit of wd40 from time to time can prevent all that hustle. Anyway, I am glad it all ended well for you, the prices online are unreasonable, and thank you for support...

Do you need to replace the whole handle if it breaks on the barrel side of the handle

But i need adjust it because if i screw the screw in it will become hard also inside the one screw nut from the windows goes empty also in whistle at 100km +- with wind from the door what i can do?

Hey man. I think I’ve watched this video a dozen times. I got a facelift 5dr 147 with the passenger side handle not working. Took the doorcard off, the front hinge is fine, my problem is that the red plastic piece is worn out and it doesn’t keep the rod in place. But what I wanted to mention is that I looked inside the door and I only seem to have just one metal rod as opposed to the two shown in your video. I do have the yellow plastic piece in the handle but seemingly no second rod. Would that just be a difference between pre FL and FL or number of doors?
Not sure about the difference, but you can replace the plastic thing which holds it in place

Can I use the same method on the facelift 147 from 2006?
The thing is that, the handle (on the passenger side) does not have a keyhole. And the car has central locking system.
Does this make any difference regarding the replacement of the handle?

Maybe next video about repairing broken mirrors :) That aluminium inside is really weak point of 147 and gt. I had this broken in mine and I bought used one, but after assembling i realised that is from RHD version of 147 :(
