An 18" MacBook Pro with M5 Ultra starting at $4999 would actually be such a blessing to the Desktop replacement market. Dell is leaking an XPS 18 with up to 256GB of RAM and 16TB of storage so it's clear that the ultra desktop replacement market is coming back
Your use case clearly doesn't require one then. Other people have different needs. I have zero use for a dedicated tablet, but I don't doubt other people find them very useful.
@@jlaczek1127 What do you mean they don't last long? I've had mine for 4 years and I only have some minor damage in the corner. As for the other user, I can't understand not understanding the appeal of foldables. You literally get a huge screen. Literally just using RUclips already makes it worthwhile, I can write comments while the video plays in a screen better than what you get on a regular phone.
I’ve kept my original iPad Pro going on 10 years now, all the time wishing for a 14 or 16 inch version. It hasn’t happened yet, but I’m still holding out hope.
The big question is not he hardware but the software . Apple demonstrated that they still nail it when it comes to hardware and really sucks when it comes to system updates it’s messy and. A foldable MacBook/ iPad can only work if the software is fixed
We had the giant iPad. It was a Surface Studio Desktop. Digital artists loved it, but they just weren't a big enough market to make it a viable product.
I recently bought an M4 iPad Pro to upgrade from my old one. And since I needed a new Magic Keyboard, I decided to be cheap and not buy one. I realized that I loathe typing on the ipad screen and placed an order for a Magic Keyboard anyways, lol... I love physical buttons. Listening to OP talk about buttons so much just means I want to comment more about how much I love them. And all my ranting helps the RUclips algorithm!
I don't expect much for Apple's foldable. But I'm pretty sure Apple will make good software for foldable so that other company can mimic. Lots of makers are already trying everything but there should be some room for Apple to integrate software and hardware a bit better than others.
The reason a folding iPad makes sense is that you are unfolding way less than a phone. The durability would be much better than a phone would be. And why do people think folding phones make sense? You’re trading length for thickness. There’s no actual advantage. But with an iPad, you get a device that can be held and used while walking, while at the same time getting a huge screen you can use at your desk or in bed. As an iPad power user, I can tell you this makes way more sense than any other foldable device you can imagine.
I think they should do a 20 inch Mac book pro, where it leans to desktop size with portability. And it should have a pop up widget for apps like I pad with touch.
I think the iPad Mac combo thingy would be overly expensive for sure and end up flopping like Vision Pro did. As for large screens I feel like the 13 inch is almost too large as it is. Samsung has a 14.6 inch tablet. That’s probably the largest a tablet should ever be.
I personally think Apple making an folding device just back tracks in their eco friendly design their going for not just because of their durability but mainly because it’s a plastic screen
I know there's some "self healing" materials. They basically work by being heat activated. Like imagine if you cut a piece of rubber with a knife, and then heated it up and it melted the cut closed. It could be possible to make a folding screen that can heal itself over time from wear and tear by constantly healing up wear damage. But that's pretty complex. Complex enough that it hasn't really been done at that level yet. But it would be kinda cool if they could find a way to recycle the heat generation from use to heal the display. But let's be honest, if they could even do that on a cellphone they'd probably kill the screen protector market. I don't think it would hurt AppleCare as people probably get insurance for real damage and not little scratches on the glass. And they could probably save money by not servicing those repairs, while still taking insurance money on the rare case big things happen. --- Ultimately, I still think a folding ipad is stupid. I just can't see how that kind of screen is going to work with the pencil.
There’s always been rumors but in reality Apple try very hard to prevent that from happening because improving one will kill the sales of the other Overpriced keyboards, terrible file system, etc.
A folding Mac/ipad that has a Magic Keyboard and you can place the folded Mac with the crease vertically in the center. This could work, in particular if the keyboard had battery and ports.
@ I was suggesting a physical keyboard like the one for the iPad, and the unfolded device attaches in landscape, but when folded fits inside the closed keyboard for protection.
First of all happy holidays. Second of all I always skip past those painfully awful skits. Third of all I'm no editor, in fact I'm an awful editor, but the way you edit your videos makes me anxious. Why is there that cut or blink between literally every sentence? It's jarring and mildly annoying to me. Fourth of all your content seems to be very much complaining about apple rumors lately. Sure there is a lot to complain about but to me at least that seems to be the bulk of your content. That all being said, happy holidays to you and yours.
Why not make two separate displays that are bezzeless and attach together magnetically when folded. That way there is not crease or low quality plastic
man, I am absolutely LOVING the extra buttons on the iphone. I went from a 14 ProMax to a 16 Pro (wanted a smaller phone), and I use the action button and the camera button every single day. I use the action button as a flashflight, and since it's so easy I use a lot of times when I gotta dig tools out of my shed. I don't even bother flipping the light on. Just use my flashlight like some kinda crazy person. But it's so easy! As for the camera button. I use it a lot to take quick photos of documents or things I want to save for notes. Because I went smaller phone this year, I can just hold it one handed click the button to open the camera and then click the same button to take a photo. Since it's often just notes and references it doesn't have to be perfectly in focus. I'm also left-handed, which means I hold the phone in my left hand, which means the camera button is right at my finger tips when I hold the phone normally. And the action button is the harder one to press because I have to wiggle my thumb up higher on the phone to press it. I Do NOT use the scroll thing on the camera button, but I use it a lot as a clicker. If it were a second action button, I would be happy. In fact, if they added like 3 more buttons I would be happy. -- If I had another button I would assign it to that "What song is playing?" feature, because I listen to the radio a lot and want to know what song is playing if I want to add it to spotify later. I own my own company and I pipe in radio, but just because I pay for it doesn't mean I know what's playing. But I'm surrounded by radio like 8 hours a day. So ya know, I'm a very niche case.
I agree. The only people that cannot accept these buttons as useful are either entrenched in legacy or cannot reimagine a use for them. The camera control also now opens Visual Intelligence giving it multiple uses.
Do you know you can also assign double and triple back taps. What we need is button combination / short press for the action button, not more action buttons
@@QnjtGWonQNqVsbYyzjx4 Yeah, I tried it a few times but struggled with remembering it's there. With a physical button it kinda teaches you. You'll rub your fingers across it and be reminded "oh yeah, that's there!" I would be good for button combos too. More features the better.
The foldable iPad makes a lot of sense. You could use the small form factor while standing and walking around, and then open it up to a large screen when you are on the couch or in bed etc. honestly, this is the only foldable device that makes sense to me.
For a keyboard, I just use a Bluetooth keyboard at my desk when I need to get work done. But then I grab the screen and take with me everywhere else without having to lug around a keyboard. Makes so much more sense then trying to lug around a laptop everywhere

Sounds horrible, I’d rather them just add a lot more functionality to iPadOS, hell cant they just give us some type of “ Rosetta” translation technology, like they use onMacOS for windows 64..
that is a 3+ year budget phone, even an iphone 14 is better, either you have very bad purchase decision or you don't have money. As a iphone 16pro user, its battery is even better than my previous s22 ultra, and was proved in many youtube videos that 16pro max has better battery life within a full charge and is cheaper compare to s24ultra in software., btw regarding software, ios 18 and one ui 7 copy each other in every aspect lol, so both of them are trash
@bennieng6552 Well I bought my Pixel 3 when it was only one year old and I got it open box for $300. That's still cheaper than what I paid for my iPhone SE. And those flagship iPhones are way too expensive. I have money, but I'd rather spend my money on other things. And I'm terms of One UI being trash, that's why I don't use a Samsung phone.

Woah what
A 19 inch laptop screen where I can scratch it with my fingernail? Sounds great for traveling 🤣
Sounds very ignorant of you
I have two folds with 0 scratches. You'd have to want to scratch it, to actually do it.
A Disparu sighting!

For the life of me, I have yet to understand the appeal of a foldable phone or tablet.
Your use case clearly doesn't require one then. Other people have different needs. I have zero use for a dedicated tablet, but I don't doubt other people find them very useful.

The crease and (basically) a plastic display are the reasons I won’t touch any foldable device with a 10ft pole.
I saw this on my feed but i said it was for members only I’m so happy that it was only early upload instead of never seeing this

Why didn’t you buy a MacBook? No use in having a desktop chip if the device still runs iOS
Btw if you have a 19" 16:9 MacBook then fold it in half, each half will be 12.46" 8:9, so that's not bad
The logistics and potential issues of all of this just make it seem like this is something that Apple will never really commit to doing.
I don't expect much for Apple's foldable. But I'm pretty sure Apple will make good software for foldable so that other company can mimic. Lots of makers are already trying everything but there should be some room for Apple to integrate software and hardware a bit better than others.

This is a nonsense rumour. Apple experiment with all sorts of things but most of it doesn’t make it to production

convertible PC and tablet has existed for over a decade. mac with touchscreen.
existing for over a decade doesn't make them successful

Re the OS: Why hybrid? Why not a new platform? The hardware part does sound ridiculous.
A folding Mac/ipad that has a Magic Keyboard and you can place the folded Mac with the crease vertically in the center. This could work, in particular if the keyboard had battery and ports.
The screen would be plastic and you placing anything on it and even applying pressure (typing) would end up destroying the device really quickly

All I want is a bigger iPad Pro 14 or 15 inches and dual boot.
Can we just have a foldable iphone. Like come on already
I’m desperate for a mac/ipad hybrid m4 pro tablet surely is capable of this. Dual boot android/windows tabs have been around for like 10 years!!
It’s a Macintouch. 🙂

How about just bring back the headphone jack and sim slot 🤷🏻♂️
