That Mahoe and the MD128 are beasts.
Yes for sure. I love mine.
GREAT VIDEO!!!!
THANKS! :)
I had a 127 Mobile years ago that had 10' end stands was used to cut old growth doug fir logs.I could cut 3 2x4's at once with extra edger saw blade attachment.I kind of partial to the circle mill but there is a place for the bandsaw.
That's pretty cool, and yes I agree there is definitely a place for bandsaws. I have a woodmizer lt 15 Wide and its really useful for large beams.
Lovely superb Nice sawing
Thanks 👍
It is certainly hard to beat a sawmill that produces edged dimensional lumber right off the log and have the boards brought back to you. Another perk is that you can also produce quarter and rift sawn lumber with no extra effort compared to bandsaw mills.
Yes that's true, its a great machine!
@@SharpeTimber Quarter sawn lumber, really? A video on how it performs on Quarter sawn would be really interesting.
What’s a quarter sawn lumber?
@@enchantedmountain5354 Quarter sawn lumber is lumber in which the growth rings of the tree are perpendicular to the wide face of the board. In wood such as oak it produces a ray fleck pattern on the face of the board.
What is something a bandsaw mill can do better than this type? I assume slabs. But other than slabs? Price is substantially higher?
That ambrosia maple would have made some beautiful slabs.
Yes it would have! The problem is the market for slabs here in ontario has become super saturated and we don't sell too many anymore. Thanks for watching!
@@SharpeTimber That's the same in my neck of the woods. Seems like everybody and their brother is sawing slabs these days. Your mill is great though!
@@butternuthillfarm1599 yes exactly haha thank you!
Always been a dream of mine to own a mobile saw mill. In the UK the issue is sourcing the tree butts.
Yes I have heard that, I was doing a timber framing coarse in Wales and they got most of their oak from France.
We can do partnership
great video! that's a beast of a mill you have!
Thanks!
If the logs are nice and big sawdust is no big issue, but with smaller logs that .325 kerf eats some lumber. And then there is more sawdyst to manage around.
Not saying that it is a problem for everyone, but fir some... Like the easyness of cutting two sides at once, knowing what I want and just looking how much I get...
Yes that would be something for one to consider when looking for a mill. Really depends on what you will use it for and what your space is like. I don't find the kerf or sawdust to be a problem for me but it does take a bit of work to keep it cleaned up. Thanks for watching!
You should look at a mobile dimensions sawmill if you want to see fast. It runs 2 horizontal 8-inch blades instead of one like yours. You can use the 2 blades to edge each board or cut 2 boards per pass. Lone valley adventures youtube channel uses one.
Hey thanks for watching! I checked it out, I have seen those mills before. I like the mill but it seems pretty simple. Looks like I could cut 2 or 3 boards per 1 on the MD. You can't really control the speed, looks like you just let it go. I make up for some speed and power not having a second blade.
Looks like a really neat mill! What were those maple 2x4 used for? Thanks for the video!!!
Thanks, I really enjoy using it! We used them for strapping on a small timber frame we did.
Impressive mill. Most of what I mill on my bandsaw are between 12" and 20" dia. Thin kerf was what attracted me to the bandsaw route but they are not without problems ( no mill is!)
What kerf width is on the mahoe blades?
Cheers
John
hey John, thanks! Yes the size of kerf is definitely an advantage on a bandsaw, I think the kerf on my saw is .325? I tried to put narrower teeth on once but it needs the wider ones to work without pinching and warping the blade.
Honestly... I really like having the wood chips of the wider circular blade, rather than the dust produced by the narrow kerf of a bandsaw.... like you said though, they both have their uses 😉
Thank you for the video...
what length were those 2x4s?
I think they are 16' if I remember correctly.
Cool thanks
i don't understand. $650 for 49 2x4 = $13.27/bd - how long were they???
They were 16', prices at that time were about $13.50 per bd at the lumber yard.
How much is this saw
Those 2x4s weren’t full dimensions were they? Curious how many board feet you managed. Also, timer should start when the logs is still on the ground :)
No they were 1.5x3.5. I think it was around 420 bd ft that we cut in this video. I have cut 600 bd ft in an hour before. And sure, I will do that next time, it is very easy and quick to load the log. Thanks for the comment :)
Is there a Canadian distributor for this mill.
There is a distributor in the USA, I bought for them and it was shipped directly to Canada from New Zealand, then I picked it up in Toronto.
Did your mall come with the sawdust discharge shuttle, or is it custom made?
Yes it came with the mill, works really well.
Made in Mahoe Northland New Zealand
How do you go about getting one of these saws?
There is a Distributor in the USA, you can email info@sawmills.co.nz
Quick question- These are 16' ? Mill can cut 20'? Thanks
Can usually cut 20 ft long but it comes with an extension to cut 23 ft, thats what I have.
Nice rig you've got there. Is this type of mill easy to transport or is it intended to be a semi-permanent setup with the logs brought to it? Beats my 660 chainsaw mill all to pieces!
Yes its really easy to move and set up, they have a trailer attachment for it as well, I didn't get it because I'm mainly staying home with my mill. But it's very portable with the trailer.
Each sawmill has it's advantages and disadvantages "/
Yes for sure.
Why do all these mobile blade saws come from NZ?
Shipping must cost a fortune.
CAUSE IT BUILT TO TAKE ON THE OUTBACK...... ON TOP OF A QUALITY BUILD
Show me a 30" wide slab
I have a woodmizer for that 💪 but this mill actually can come with a slabbing attachment.
@@SharpeTimber 2 Sawmills to do the work of one, Hmmm, imagine that, very economical "/
@Sharpe Timber Frames Ltd. I have one mill, that has a lap siding attachment ")
The woodmizer I had before I got the Mahoe and it comes nowhere close to the efficiency and ease of the Mahoe, sure it can slab but I don't need slabs often anyway.
@@cancelchannel3394 That's handy, my dad has a lucasmill and it can do nice lap siding as well.
How much for the mini max ?
Around 46k canadian after shipping.
@@SharpeTimber Wow..quite a price jump in a year from 35.6K (+22.6%). Been wanting one of these bad boys for a long time. May have to find a used Lucas instead, but those are hard to come by too.
I think when I ordered mine it was around 36k USD. We have a lucas mill as well but the Mahoe is amazing.
@@SharpeTimber I agree. It is amazing. The board return and minimal board handling makes my 63 year old back w/ruptured disk smile! Put a roller feed behind it or conveyor straight into a pickup or tractor forks and it’s a win-win and must be such an incredible time saver.
@@SharpeTimber i can imagine . It looks crazy good
Bisa kita minta alamat untuk membeli alat tersebut.
Yes, look up Mahoe sawmills in New Zealand
I refuse to pay a big price for a sawmill that limits the type of lumber I can produce
Thats fair, it really depends on what type of cutting you are mainly doing and what works for you! Thanks for watching.
Each mill has benefits and drawbacks. It depends on what you plan to saw. I have a Mobile Dimension Mill but recently borrowed a Wood Mizer for a job sawing timbers. The thin kerf bandmills are great for high value hardwoods but I mainly saw pine that has very little value at the big mills so it doesn't matter that I make more sawdust the speed is much more important to me.
But a house or garage isn't built with only 2x4s, I have 2x4, 2x6, 2x8, 2x12, 8x12, show me one of these that can saw that.... And I never seen one of these mills saw 6 in logs, on band mill I can saw 3 at once, and I never seen one of these mills under 20k, all in all band mill is best.......
That is true house doesn't only need 2x4s, but it cuts any dimension of lumber up to 8x12 without any issue, in my other video about how much can you make saw milling I cut 5000 board ft of white oak into 1x4s, 2x8s,2x10s,2x12s in 2 days. A bandsaw definitely has its place, I have a woodmizer myself. I use it to cut beams bigger than my mahoe, and longer as well because you can put on as many extensions as you want.
I have a mobile dimension.
The hardest thing is to bring the log to the mill
My D And L swing blade will do 8x16. Although the kerf is wider, recovery is better than a band mill. It didn't make sense to me, but several universities did this exact study showing better recovery with a swing blade or circular mill. I love that I can get 1x2 or 1x3 trim boards, or get some 1x1 sticker stock out of the corners. There is very little waste. The biggest factor in our decision for a circular saw, was blade and maintenance cost. In 190 hours on the new mill, we have $27 in replacing carbide tips. I about throw up when friends tell me how much they've spent on their band mills in that amount of hours!

What are your thoughts on this Brazilian model that appears to have similar features? ruclips.net/video/fxQ8yPY4oS4/видео.html
It does look like its based on a similar design, to me it doesn't seem to have the build quality that the Mahoe has. It looks a bit lighter duty.
