Lovers Leap - Fagafau, Savaii

Recorded April 2010 - Round trip of Savaii...We didn't get out to have a look but just read the sign. My lil bro filming as i'm in the front passenger seat. Apparently it is a good spot to have a rest & take photos.

Thats that legend where the old lady and daughter fled/swam to Vaitogi in Tutuila where they stay near or under the cliffs and can be seen when village people sing the Fonuea chant.

This is the beginning of the true story of the turtle and the shark,but some people in this days they twisted and tell into the wrong story,I'm not sure the village of the husband, but the cliff is in the village of Fagafau,And the story says,when her husband die,his family start not feeding her and her daughter, and end up shes getting old and blind, the family keep doing to not feeding her and the daughter, One day,she ask her daughter,what's the family doing? The daughter said,they finished eating, and the old lady ask her daughter we have to leave now,and the daughter said,where we gona go?old lady say,I will tell you if we get there,all you gona do,just hold my hand because I can't see,and walk me to Fagafau were the Cliff is,and the daughter do exactly what her mother said,because the mother her name is Fonuea from the village of Vaitogi at Tutuila(AMS),she want to go back to her family,when the mother and the arrived in Fagafau were the mako is(cliff),and the mother hold her daughters hand,and said,your dads family not feeding us,treat us so bad,so we have to go to see my family at vaitogi,and the daughter said OK,we have to,and then the mother and the daughter "JUMP",and enjoyed there journey to back home were the mother came from,and the mother turn to a Turtle and the daughter turn to a Shark.
