What a great way you have about you loving these Pontiacs. I have a 64 two door hard top sport coupe Bonneville with factory am fm radio - all original except for the paint. I love Pontiacs.
Did someone say Pontiacs? Yes, please! I'm new to your channel and I love that '65 Lemans. I'm currently reviving a '65 Lemans barn find. Looking forward to seeing more of these beauties!
Very cool. Just pulled a 63 out of this fellas property myself. Thing was sitting on a wooden plank trailer for a number of years. She did spin free and she did start on can gas...and actually was pretty responsive with the accelerator pedal. The thing that I did different here was pulled all the plugs..cleaned them with my abrasive cleaner. Shot some 2cyl oil down each cylinder and on the rockers. WD 40 is good, but may be a bit to thin in some casses. Then I used a breaker bar and spun her over by hand a few revolutions. Put the plugs back in...and poured a little 2cyl mixture down the carb. Fired right up. I do the 2cyl treatment because it will help keep the cylinder walls coated during a dormant dry start...and it will burn off without a lot of smoke....then I change the plugs after she's all "lubed" up...😉 Glad you're getting her going...they deserve to be back on the road....not sitting in a field to rot. Many happy miles to ya.
Actually off camera I sprayed the cylinders down with penetrating oil, cleaned the plugs which were very nice really, spun it 10 times over the course of the past week until I didn’t feel a ridge in the cyl walls anymore. That weed eater gas I was using was actually 2 stroke oil, as well. I think we did a very similar process, but I just didn’t record some of it. Will do better next time on the 421 2+2. Thanks for watching!
Happy to find your channel. I have a 1964 Bonneville convertible and just love these cars. Nice collection you have there. I have vintage British cars mostly but have a soft spot for these Pontiacs as we had a 1965 Gold & Black Bonneviille Convertible when I was a boy. I just had my 389 gone over and she's not broken in yet. I subed to your channel and will be watching your work. Bobby
Man, I love your pontiacs. I'm a pontiac man myself. I've got a 68 catalina convertible, also a 68 firebird convertible. I'd love to have that 65 gto in my garage as well.
Great video and a great car! I've always thought that the Grand Prix and Buick Rivera were quite possibly the best of GM! Stunning style and unequaled class! Both are bucket list cars for me!
My family owned Pontiacs for years and that's all we drove with a Chevrolet once in a while. Pontiacs were our daily drivers and trip cars. They just floated going down the highway great suspension.
Cool car's love the fronts on the old Pontiacs..I've just brought a 66 catalina wagon. Probably not everyone's idea of cool but I like the look of wagons..keep up the good work. Just saying hi from New Zealand 👍
Hey don’t knock the long roof cars. They are really exploding here in the US lately. Lots of younger generation people getting into them. I want to get one myself!
My Father coming out of the Marines in 1972 took me to the dealership where they pulled out my Mothers new car off the Showroom floor 72,Grand Prix SJ/Canary yellow/tan,USMCMom top and interior,GT Mags/Goodyear letters tires/duals/air shocks,
Dad had the 66 Catalina 389 triple deuces it had the automatic on the floor it was a white car with fender skirts I believe it had white interior that was all the way back in 1980
Thanks man! An old timer told me that. I’m 43 but I usually hang out with car guys who are 60-80ish. Yesterday my friend and I had my blue GP up on the lift, and put new shoes behind the 8 lugs. He is 79 years young and a real blast to hang out with!
@@garrettbenson7743 car suspension damaged as a result of being stolen. It was returned in unrecognizable condition. Running and drives but rubbing in the front end an appears they cut the rear springs out an replaced them with set that hikes the rear. That brought the front down drastically. Looks ridiculous. Also destroyed steering column, turn signal and airbag assembly. A lot of damage to the interior but not beyond repair by a caring Pontiac technician. Can send photos. Thank you for your reply and any assistance with repairs.
@@JohnDavis-xm3th yeah suspension parts are pretty easy to find. The hard part is getting it off the ground. Almost have to have a lift. I don’t, but my old man does and he’s only an hour away. I’ve been shuffling stuff back and forth from our shops. I will be filming a will it run on his 63 corvair monza very soon!
Hey, you use the same weight oil as I. But my engine is a 7.3 diesel. LOL! Do you think that engine has been out? Can't help but notice the HEI distributor and replacing timing sets was pretty normal for those engines. Hope the tick turns out to be a stuck lifter, got my fingers crossed.
Anytime I work on a car that's been sitting for years I unhook the gasline from the carburetor put it in a bottle before cranking the engine to flush the system and not put the gunk in the carburetor
Yes it will be very soon. Almost done with it. Welded in floor and trunk patch panels yesterday. New door and trunk seals. New gas tank and fuel line. Boy does she run good.
Oil ---- Did you add Zinc to the new oil? VERY IMPORTAINT you add Zinc as the EPA removed it in most new oil and you WILL EAT THE CAM & LIFTERS in very short order with out adding your own Zinc additive. Also for your lifter tick, add a bottle of Reslone Hyperlube , the stuff really WORKS ! You made a bad mistake in firing up a Pontiac V8 that had been sitting a long time. You should have removed all the spark plugs and 1 valve cover and squirt some Marivel misty oil in each cylinder and cranked the motor over with the HEI disconnected ( unplugged) and crank the motor over with all the spark plugs out until you seen oil pumping out of each rocker arm pee hole.( takes a lot of cranking) As the lifters pump up from cranking it fast with the plugs out, It also would have primed the fuel pump & carb float bowels from all the cranking. After you got everything primped up, take the battery backout and put it on the charger over night to get a full charge and then install the valve cover, hook the HEI back up and install all the S plugs. Put the now totally charged battery back in and put a shot of gas in the carb ( ONE SHOT !) and VAROOOMmmmmm that 389 would have fired right up smoked like hell for a min or so to burnup the rest of the Marvil misty oil and ran like new I also run a QT. of TCW3 Two stroke oil in the first take of gas to loosen up the rings Oh sure it might smoke a little but the old rings LOVE IT !as the extra oil in the gas helps re seat the dry rings.
I did actually fill the cylinders with marvel and let it sit a week before the video. And I used the rotella t4 that has zinc added to it. Thanks for the info!

These were my favorite sleeper cars when I was growing up. GTO, LEMANS were my pic in the late 70's. Good sight for old eyes.
Awesome. I love them too
Got mine in 66. $ 4400.00 . off The showroom floor and out the door with a tank. Of gas. I. Still have it.

Agreed! I'd maybe toss the late '60s Eldorado into that mix as well...
I really dig these cars. So much class. I did a 4K video about my 65 GP that is very artistic if you wanted to check that one out as well.

Enjoyed this video. Always wondered , which was the highest end Pontiac , Grand Prix or Bonneville ?
The Bonnie was the flagship for sure!
I put a new coil on my 1970 Grand Prix and now my tachometer has stop working have I did something wrong?
There is a wire for your tach that connects to the coil but it has to be in the correct side of it. Make sure it’s on the negative (-) side.
