    Wow. Just reading some of the comments on this post. I haven’t watched many of your videos but it’s obvious that you’re an experienced shooter. The drills were cool to see. It’s never a bad idea to know the condition of your firearm before you holster it. I don’t get the press check comments either. Only critique I’d give this video in watching the training is after each course of fire, there are no scans for other threats before you holster. The gun is being put away too fast. Get those scans in, it may save your life.

    • @xomanowar42
      @xomanowar42 8 лет назад +18

      cockerrocker, it's to check if the slide didn't lock back on the last round. So when you fire again, you don't look like a jackass with an empty chamber.

    • @cockerrocker
      @cockerrocker 8 лет назад +5

      xomanowar42 well, before we get into another long, drawn out circular argument about this, let me just state that after your course of fire is over, whether or not your chamber is empty is irrelevant. I'm not critiquing any shooting ability or philosophy, merely making an observation on something that is done only during competition drills. That's all.

    • @xomanowar42
      @xomanowar42 8 лет назад +1

      cockerrocker, so reloading is irrelevant?

Thanks for all the knowledge you share and for the great products you have brought to the industry. Can anyone come up with and present to me why there would possibly be any reason to press check after you shoot a course of fire??... Especially when you don't even reload before re-holstering...

    • @joshuafreeman4459
      @joshuafreeman4459 8 лет назад +9

      For me personally it's because of two instances that have happened to me 1. I overrode the slide stop and the slide didn't lock to the rear on a empty mag. 2. I was shooting support hand only and depressed the magazine release enough to not release the mag slightly and not chamber the next round. I caught it on a press check. Also a good reason is your slide stop might have broke and it is not locking the slide to the rear.

    • @cockerrocker
      @cockerrocker 8 лет назад

      Joshua Freeman I have a couple of questions for you.
      1) If your course of fire is over, is there any reason to check for a round since it is over? Also, aren't you going to load and check again anyway for your next run?
      2) Do you think it is ingraining bad habits to immediately pull your gun back and drop the mag after firing?
      Just curious.

    • @joshuafreeman4459
      @joshuafreeman4459 8 лет назад +1

      cockerrocker why not do it? I just gave two reasons why it's a good idea. Maybe that depends
      I do not unload the gun after an exercise. So I'm not sure where you got that

    • @cockerrocker
      @cockerrocker 8 лет назад +1

      Joshua Freeman to answer your question; because it serves no functional purpose.
      Here's what I mean: When my course of fire is over, and I do a press check, I'm going to get one of two results; either I see brass or no brass. If I see brass, I'm not going to shoot again, so it doesn't matter. If I do not see brass, and assuming I have another mag on me, I'm not going to reload to leave the line am I? Either way, to get ready for the next course of fire or drill, I'm going to reload and press check anyway am I not? To me, it just seems like "something to do" after a drill/exercise, but really has no applicable purpose.
      My second question was in regard to the actual video. I question why people snap their guns back immediately and drop the mag right after a shoot. It just seems tactically unsound.

    • @nathanstrange168
      @nathanstrange168 8 лет назад +2

      cockerrocker In regards to the press check at the end... I don't think it is truly needed, but what Josh is saying makes sense. If you're serious about shooting you want to train as if your course of fire was an actual engagement. In which case even if you are not going to shoot another drill immediately you want to make sure your firearm is in a condition that is ready to fight before you reholster.

      stylin60es Years, and thousands of rounds of perfect technique, my friend. Don't expect these results overnight, just because you watch instruction videos all day. It takes hard work, and discipline. These guys probably train 30 hours a week. Or more!!!

    Oh to be that age again and have the gear and money to put rounds down range. Reflexes and skill doesn’t hurt either. You kids keep it up !
