    Two things I picked up from this episode. Steve Austin is a man of principle. If you betray his trust, he won’t trust you again. And Bret Hart is truly the excellence of execution in the way he manufactured the WM 13 match with the blood spot.

      It's somewhat funny about Bret that even though he was the babyface he was the one who came up with the harsh spots in matches... He was the one who told Nash to sent him crashing through a table to have some heel heat on him

      Totally agree the emotions were so high that year between America vs Canada or the world for that matter. People forget no matter were the Hart Foundation went they were the heels in the US but in the rest of the world they were the faces. It couldn't have been planned better. It truly is the most underrated year for WWE. Look that year compared to now.

    That story about Owen never calling Steve following the neck injury surprises me. Hearing all the stories about what a stand up guy Owen is it doesn't make sense. I know I’ve done things I wasn’t proud of and my reaction to it was worse than the act itself and trying to explain why you reacted the way you did is just unexplainable. I think I understand what Owen was feeling and it certainly wasn’t that he didn’t care or didn’t feel bad.

    • @danielmelvin4525
      @danielmelvin4525 5 лет назад +7

      In a way yes. Many people think Austin pushed Bret out, which as a kid is kind of how I felt, but nowadays realize that it's just cause the angle worked like it was supposed to. Bret was so good at realism people believe his character was a shoot from the moment he lost at WM12. It was the WWF who decided to give Bret the angle of complaining about being screwed in his matches which turned the crowd against him (and maybe Vince even worked Bret by making him believe this angle would work for him as a babyfaces). I believe Vince knew Shawn didn't wanna work with Bret and planned on turning him heel from the get go when he decided to come back.
      For some reason when people talk about Bret (particularly this timeframe) they forget the whole thing is and was a work, and Bret worked everybody (even many of the boys ).

Would it make any sense for an owner to do a back body drop like a wrestler would when they get the stunner? no it wouldn't. So for example if you walked into a pizza hut and stunned the owner would they take it like vince or do what a wrestler does? (waits for the part where they say vince is a wrestler and not an owner)

People would loose their minds, not to mention that the national media would have a field day with it. There would be a huge witch hunt out for Vince. That's what kills me about the media & how they overreact to things. The Pillman storyline with the gun is no different than a TV show or A movie doing the same thing.

    Brett Hart could never understand why Stone Cold was so popular. He said that people shouldn't root for a character like Stone Cold's character. For some reason it really bothered him. He said in his documentary "Wrestling With Shadows" that's when he knew his time with the (@ the time) the WWF had come to an end. Brett took everything so serious. What's to be upset about? It sounds to me that he was more upset because he was losing his fans to Stone Cold.

    This was a great episode. Steve Austin had a great 1997 that was almost off the trail cause of the accident at Summerslam 1997. This might be a sleeper episode cause to many fans, Steve really didnt do much in 1997 expect help kick start the Monday Night War. I know they said Vince taking the stunner was wrong, I have to disagree. There are a case of where the Stunner was way worse. Donald Trump at Wrestlemania 23. He didn't sell the shit out of it. Was up in 5 seconds. I can't wait until next week when they discuss Wrestlemania 20. That is a Wrestlemania where I wanted to be a fly in the creative room on that road.

    I dont know how anyone can think HBK did more for the business than Bret Hart. Hart literally put his stamp and influenced the industry for generations to come. He's the Metallica of Metal, the Nirvana of Alternative. The Led Zeppelin of Rock. HBK was great, but he was so stuck on his own character he never contributed more than a few top singles here and there.
    This entire episode is about the greatest wrestling draw of all time ( merchandise included ) and they are mostly talking about how fucking amazing Bret is.

    • @darthbigred22
      @darthbigred22 2 года назад

      The fact you called Nirvana alternative when they're the face of grunge tells me you're not a 90s teen. I am more shocked they're trying to change the "alternative" definition to mean essentially all 90s rock. Alt Rock are the guys when grunge starts to die so essentially all the rock acts from 95/96 forward that weren't grunge, until rap metal shows up. Think Smash Mouth or Third eye Blind. Grunge is Pearl Jam and Nirvana.
      Either way we hated Bret Hart and HBK they both SUCKED! It was a blessing to VKM, SCSA, and WWF when they FINALLY were forced out of the main event in the late 90s. It was equally a blessing when SCSA had his neck broke otherwise Rock would never have risen to be a face.
      Hart/HBK's influence is obvious right now and the ratings are reflecting their legacy. Wrestling is a TV show in the end not an actual sport. I care more about the story than the stunts. Otherwise we'd talk about how great stuntmen are over actors.
      HBK/Hart are great fake fighters but lousy pro wrestlers, they lacked the it factor to connect to the mainstream crowd.

    Personally, my favorite Austin run was the heel run that led up to the famous "double turn." Bruce says here that they didn't change the character after his face turn, but Austin 96' would've *never* turned to the crowd and said, "Give me a hell yeah!" As soon as he started doing stuff like that, my interest dropped off a bit. I still enjoyed the character, but, to me, he'd lost some of that edge he once had.

    • @guyincognito5706

I know Owens gone now but it doesn't change what happened. I truly think Owen was trying to steal Austin's heat by hurting Steve. But hey, just my opinion. 1:11:57

    Bruce completely contradicts himself here when he says Vince fought against the idea of becoming the 'Mr McMahon' character, and that he resisted the initial confrontation with Austin storyline. I've heard Prichard say many a time that Vince's childhood dream was to be a talent; "he loved being that despised heel"; "he loved performing" Prichard said recently. So which is it?!

    • @neilsun2521

      Btw the Mr McMahon character was my favourite character throughout the attitude era. I absolutely loved him and thought he delivered every sentence perfectly. His comedic timing was second to none in my opinion.

    • @wereallscrewed9714
      @wereallscrewed9714 5 лет назад +2

      @@neilsun2521 I think it's both. It's been said a younger Vince wanted to wrestle but Macmahon Sr. forbit it. So by the time Vince was running things he had it engrained into his head that the owner shouldn't mix it up with the talent. Now the owner is taking tv time away from the boys but it was too damn good to not run with it.

    I'm a huge wrestling fan so I mean no disrespect when I say this but I always enjoy how people like to say back before the internet people weren't smartened up. "Steves doctor wasn't smartened up." OK Bruce lmao. A 10 year old kid could tell it was a work back in 1950 and you are telling me a grown man smart enough to become a doctor thought it was real in 1997? Everyone.... please, just stop with that talk. Randy Orton said it best when he said if you can't tell it's fake when someone throws someone towards the ropes and the person continues like they can't stop you are a fool. EVERYONE knows its a show Bruce and we all new long before the internet lol. Geez. We are not Chimpanzees bro we evolved a long time ago. I'm begging people to stop with that talk because it makes you seem like you are trying to work us in what should be a shoot interview. You know damn well Austins doctor did not believe wrestling was a real shoot match. C'mon man.
