I love my clothes, each piece is a treasure that I have carefully selected. most of my clothes I have bought secondhand and are vintage and I take care of them so that they will last me a life time.
I would almost suggest just pinning/basting the dress to your measurements, disassembling it to pull the pattern from it, then remaking it longer and better fitted in a similar/better fabric. I notice the lines in the plaid aren’t lining up very well, for instance. I would also advise leaving a spare inch of breathing room, since metabolisms slow down with time and it’s good to have a little breathing/eating room. I’ve seen a few YTers tailor everything quite snug, then have to declutter it a couple of years later.
Ah thank you for this fantastic advice!! I agree with you, breathing room is essential - i will definitely keep this in mind as i proceed! I think you’re also onto something in terms of using it as a pattern rather than remaking it/reworking it with the minimal fabric available in the original. Here’s hoping I can pull off something nice though 😇
I enjoyed your video. You got some lovely items. Not sure about the final dress, but I’ll be interested to see what you do with it. I love shopping in charity shops and getting better quality for my money. I’ve had some great finds. It’s addictive!
Hahahaha don’t worry I’m not so sure about the final dress either! I think I’ll be able to do something fun with it though - I’ll just have to figure out what that will be if my one and only half-baked plan doesn’t come through immediately perfect 😂
Shocking about how little people wear their clothes before trashing them. I have had most of mine for years! And wear them until they are no longer wearable.
I know! I constantly hear friends talk about the pressure not to “outfit repeat”, especially at events like weddings, and I can’t help but be baffled by that concept. I’ve got two lovely dresses I bought 4 years ago that I recycle for every occasion that I can - I couldn’t give a hoot if everyone’s seen me in those outfits before 😂
I have only come across your video today! You have a new subscriber. I am a fellow Aussie & thrifter & I can see you have a great eye. I absolutely love Princess Highway too!! I look forward to seeing your videos in the future. ❤ from Brisbane
Aaah thank you and welcome to the mess! *waves hands jazzily* Hahaha it’s lovely to know a fellow QLD thrift enthusiast! Looking forward to sharing some of my next projects with the world, and would love to know what your favorite thing is that you’ve managed to thrift 🥰 my favorite thrifted item of all time might be my typewriter, or my collection of Agatha Christie novels.
Such a good vibe watching this video! I always laugh when people talk about the "$ per wear" as ive been one to wear the same clothes for years till i cant mend it anymore. Easily hundreds of times minimum. So many great finds! Loooove the Gaiters, they are one of my fav old accessories that i wish would still in fashion. Such great potential with that dress, i hope it works for you well!
Aw thanks so much! Yes, the concept of one-wear clothing is unimaginable to me! I am very much a “wear it to rags” kind of person, so I’m glad there are similar minded folks out there. I live in hope of fixing the much-awaited dress!! Hahaha 😂
I like your philosophy about using beautiful things you own. Thank you.
I love the Gaiters 🤍
Aaaah thank you so much! They’re quite fun aren’t they 🥰 it opens up so much more of my shoe closet for vintage looks now!
The “dress” is lovely ….its a keeper 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Hahahaha thank you!! I truly do like it - but I think it could use some restyling/tailoring to really SING within my wardrobe! 😂❤️
nice gaiters 😊
Hahaha thank you! I was pretty excited about them. ❤️

You had me at Howl's Moving Castle.
I am dying to see what you do with the dress!
