Saw them last night at The Empty Bottle in Chicago. Ian is an absolute fucking madman. The band is also one of the most rocksteady bands I've heard in a long time!

All that makes me shed a tear missing the days of playing with my sisters band. I miss all those old songs.

I was completely under their spell the moment I first heard Save Yourself, yeah I know, I was a little late to the party. Without doubt, one of the finest combos of all time.

Hey ! I was there too. May 1997.
The first band was some kind of instrumental Beatles music.
      And then serious things happened.
I remember I was with my girlfriend walking to the garage, Ian was talking with people at the door. They were all disguised in 60's 70's style.
Ian saw us and left the disguised people and ran to us. Hugs and kisses. He told us to come in by the back of the garage so we did not pay the ticket. He gave us bread, cheese and apples.
The show was great. It was always great. Even when we were 10 people in the audience.
Touch this man, you can feel love and war boiling.
A good man in a very bad world.

Can't wait to see them in Detroit this Friday. It's been almost 20 years since I last saw these guys in DC!

So if you saw them 20 years ago playing DC. Then you might have saw them with deep lust with Allison Wolfe from bratmobile which was my band. My sister Michelle usually always had us play with them in DC. Maybe not though because I left DC in 2001

Don't forget Steve Gamboa on drums !
After playing bass with The Nation of Ulysses and guitar with The Cupid Car Club.
    Steve Gamboa rules !!

And James Canty on guitar and organ. Formerly drummer in Nation of Ulysses and guitarist in Cupid Car Club.
Also the brother of Fugazi's Brendan.
I saw the Make Up open for Sonic Youth in Manchester 1996 and was already a Ulysses fan. They were great despite some of the boorish jeering from some of the SY fans who only came to hear their heroes play Death Valley 69 (which they didn't)
Saw the Make Up again in Liverpool a year or 2 later. Ian was in the crowd for most of the gig, upside down mostly. After they played they were all mingling with everyone in the venue. I got them all, apart from Canty, to sign the 7" of Free Arthur Lee I'd just bought from the merch table. Caught up with Canty later and drunkenly asked him who was the better drummer between him and his brother. He cheekily answered ME, OF COURSE!
I saw Fugazi back in Manchester 6 months later and saw Brendan Canty in the crowd watching one of the supporting asked. I approached him and told him that his brother had told me he was the better drummer and he laughed his head off, as if to say - yeah that's James for ya.
