The way I've always thought of Banner/Hulk is that it's like when you're angry and lose control of yourself, but ramped up to 500. Everyone loses their senses when they get angry, and Banner has that to an extreme level.
This and First Avenger are probably tied for my favorite phase 1 film, and within my top five comic movies overall. That first fight against Blonsky and Hulk is just great, and howd I think a Hulk/Cap fight would look.
Interesting, Louis Leterrier the director said that his original choice for Bruce Banner was Mark Ruffalo. And Marvel was like "No, you should get Edward Norton because he's more famous." They are the ones who wanted Edward Norton. He wanted Mark Ruffalo. And they were like, "No, no, he just does smart, intellectual movies." And that when they offered him the job, they told him that they had a release date but no script. And supposedly they wanted to make a sequel to the 2003 movie which him and Norton weren't interested. The psychoanalysis scene. Edward Norton wanted the longer version of the scene and the director wanted the shorter version. He also said that the first half of the movie is really his and the second half is the studio's expected Hulk movie -- two giants kicking each other's butts.
Regarding the question of the sonic cannons' origin, during the opening credits of the film while Ross is tracking Hulk sightings, watch the computer monitors and you will see him requisitioning the sonic cannons from Stark Industries through SHIELD.. It happens around the 2:30 mark.
I was about 12 or 13 when Iron Man came out, so these movies have been around for a good portion of my life. I mean, I read comics and watched the cartoons and stuff before the MCU was a thing, so I did have a wider sense of the comics and heroes and everything. Like, I was aware of Hulk and Iron Man because as a kid I watched those cartoon shows religiously, along with the Spider-Man show, but I only really cared about Spider-Man. The movies, if anything, got me more interested in different properties than I would have previously like Captain America or Hawkeye, for example. Though I still need to read Hawkeye.
XMenOrangesTangerine I'm the exact same. my REALLY big dive in marvel universe was marvel ultimate alliance. that was when i started looking up all the characters.
7:19 The original script was taken from the script to the 2003 Hulk sequel. That's why the story works so well that way. It just had one re-write to incorporate it into the MCU instead, fairly late. And they recast it only so it could be MCU and not a 2003 sequel.
Punisher War Zone is next. That's one I'd like to do a commentary on myself, even if most of it would be me complaining about how every other character in the movies shares a name and nothing else with one from the Ennis MAX run.
The way I heard it, Norton had a writer credit as par tof his contract when he was cast, and in prep for the role he read a large amount of Hulk. The scenes he put in were alot of the character stuff Cap said was lacking, in Brazil and the training I think. The scenes he wrote were cut in editing, and he was stripped of his credit due to that. The conspiracy theory was that Marvel did that on purpose, since they wanted Ruffalo from the beginning, but universal pushed for and hired Norton. Norton was understandable annoyed by that, and Marvel got the Ruffalo they wanted for Avengers.
That's fascinating, especially since general audiences preferred Ruffalo - but if part of the reason for that is that Norton's best moments which he had a hand in crafting were cut then maybe people would have liked him much more? If it's true, at least.
you guys were talking about his blood turning from red to green. if you recall when Banner was in Brazil testing the possible antidote on his blood sample on the microscope slide, the green hulk blood cells took over, growing and changing his blood cells green. so they did set it up.
As far as Liv Tyler goes, the one role where I thought she was pretty much perfect was in Lord of the Rings. She nailed the ethereal, timeless feel of an elf. And I'm not sure you could bring back Betty Ross without making things really awkward, considering Bruce and Natasha are a thing now. Also, the almost sex scene, and Banner jumping out of the helicopter were holdovers from Zak Penn's older draft from the 90s. That script also had Hulk fighting a school of sharks, which should have been brought up again, too. Because I love that silly action stuff. XD
I don't see the awkwardness. Banner made his feelings about a relationship with Natasha clear when he hung up on her and flew away at the end of Avengers: AoU.
There was that part in Avengers where Hulk is barraged by Chitauri plasma and is temporarily incapacitated. Thunderclap would have been very helpful there. It's not like Whedon would shy away from the concept that Hulk can create a destructive shockwave since they do it in Age of Ultron, so I dunno. Seems like an oversight.
The reason for the Amazon mention in the credits because they have the sole distribution for the soundtrack, due to it being twice the usual length (being 2 CDs). This is also the case with Ghost Rider 2.
I read Aaron's Hulk run, its two volumes, and I do like the first one alot better. Marc Silvestri, the founder of Top Cow, did the art for at least part of vol 1 and was why I picked it up. I did enjoy Aarons story, but I'm not a huge fan of banner being evil without Hulk. So I am looking for Hulk and Thor recommendations. Any great runs come to mind?
I'm one of the few people who like Ed Norton better than Mark Ruffalo, if they brought him back we might have have one character who isn't joking all the time.
If they brought Norton back for Avengers, chances are that Norton would be about as jokey as everyone else. That's more or less how Joss Whedon operates when he's writing an ensemble piece.
J Man I know this is late but..I don't see Norton being into that. Like say he agreed that he'll stop script meddling but he'll damn right say his own piece if he feels his character is being mischaracterized or represented but at that point fair enough.
Now I'm really hard trying to imagine Norton in Ragnarok and just can't see it. Then again, Waititi clearly loved allowing his cast make up anything they wanted, even if they acted out of character or created plot-holes with their improv, so maybe Norton/Waititi is secretly an actor/director team-up made in heaven.
I'm honestly not a fan of the transformation trigger being primarily physical. He needs the emotional aspect. To me that's core to the character and makes more sense. Also I feel it's just bs that Bruce can't have sex just due to heart rate.
Poor Samuel Sterns, you could have been up there with Ultron, Kilgrave, Wilson Fisk, and Zemo but instead you decided to stick around and be involved in the train wreck that was Fan4stic.
J Man That was completely the choice of Marvel to blatantly ignore this film and most of Hulk's lore and supporting cast within the MCU. Sure, I wanted to see The Leader, Abomination (again), Rick Jones, etc. But obviously they weren't interested in that. Clearly, they cared as little as possible to revisit and/or expand upon stuff from this film. All because of what? Fallout between Feige and Ed Norton?
5keeper7ful Actually this is still the lowest grossing MCU movie, grossing about the same as the 2003 Hulk movie. There is also a rumor that Disney/Marvel would still have to share profits with Universal if they did another stand alone movie.
Personally, I feel like Liv Tyler is kind of wasted in this movie, she's not terrible but her character is really just there to advance Bruce's character and act emotional whenever the Hulk is around which I guess is faithful to the character somewhat.
Rider I've always heard that Ed Norton got along well with the director. it was drama between Norton and Marvel that led to him being recast. Once he was cast, Norton rewrote the script. The public fall out came when the film was being edited. Norton and Letterier wanted a movie in the ballpark of 2 hours 15 min. Marvel wanted it under 2 hours.
Personally, I've never liked the idea of Banner and Hulk being separate characters. I've always thought that Hulk should simply be Banner's repressed feelings. Thankfully, little in the MCU has suggested that they're separate beings thus far.
Any reason you don't want to do Big Hero 6? You can always justify it by saying you're only doing theatrical films, BH6 is the only theatrical animated film.
The way I've always thought of Banner/Hulk is that it's like when you're angry and lose control of yourself, but ramped up to 500. Everyone loses their senses when they get angry, and Banner has that to an extreme level.
12:00 - Also fun fact not many people notice. That fictional MCU drink that you discuss Stan Lee ends up drinking. Shows up again in Ant-Man
Fictional? It looks like a lime jarrito. Also, Ross is drinking an Incredible Hulk drink at the bar
It totally just dawned on me that you guys are hosting a show called "Marvel Mania" in a Batcave. That's hilarious 😂

I love the look of abomination in this movie and I love this movie soo much

I liked Mark Waids Bruce Banner, and the bit of Hickman Bruce Banner we saw in New Avengers.
Punisher War Zone is next. That's one I'd like to do a commentary on myself, even if most of it would be me complaining about how every other character in the movies shares a name and nothing else with one from the Ennis MAX run.
loving this series, keep it up guys!

If it's true, at least.
Donald Blake is made immortal, decapitated (by The Enchantress) and put in an eternal illusion of a perfect life(by Thor).
you guys were talking about his blood turning from red to green. if you recall when Banner was in Brazil testing the possible antidote on his blood sample on the microscope slide, the green hulk blood cells took over, growing and changing his blood cells green. so they did set it up.
Eric's close, the guys in the news footage were meant to be Jim Wilson and Jack McGee.

1:46:03 They set up the green blood when Bruce first is shown emailing Mr. Blue. He sees it turn green under a microscope once it's irradiated
David Lopez But weren't the Chitauri shooting really far away?
Guys, you're forgetting Punisher War Zone, it comes before Origins!
Eric is right; those "Thor in TIH" videos still exist.
The guy who is from Silicon Valley was actually cast in Spider-Man Homecoming as a teacher. Connection?
can't wait until we get to Winter Soldier. It's the first Marvel movie filmed mostly in Atlanta. Now all their movies are.
I still want the Leader in the MCU
The reason for the Amazon mention in the credits because they have the sole distribution for the soundtrack, due to it being twice the usual length (being 2 CDs). This is also the case with Ghost Rider 2.

This movie is so criminally underrated, I really like this movie and wish it got a sequel.
If they brought Norton back for Avengers, chances are that Norton would be about as jokey as everyone else. That's more or less how Joss Whedon operates when he's writing an ensemble piece.
That's true. It's more obvious in Ultron (I think) but it would have been interesting to see Norton's Banner working under a Whedon script.
J Man I know this is late but..I don't see Norton being into that. Like say he agreed that he'll stop script meddling but he'll damn right say his own piece if he feels his character is being mischaracterized or represented but at that point fair enough.

Tim Roth who plays Blonsky was 46 in 2008.

Matthew Smith Yes they still share joint rights to the Hulk property.
I could've sworn that Luke Cage did mention this event, just not on the nose, subliminally.
1:12:30 Hey, now, that counts as an evil board room scene. Lol
Personally, I feel like Liv Tyler is kind of wasted in this movie, she's not terrible but her character is really just there to advance Bruce's character and act emotional whenever the Hulk is around which I guess is faithful to the character somewhat.
Superman: Grounded started in a HORRIBLE place. I'll always love JMS for B5, but yech.
Blonsky talks about being 10 years younger, not 20.
Did they not see the name Stark on the sides of the sonic canons? Or the name Stark on the blue prints in the opening credits?
The drama between Ed Norton and the director is why he was recast
Rider I've always heard that Ed Norton got along well with the director. it was drama between Norton and Marvel that led to him being recast. Once he was cast, Norton rewrote the script. The public fall out came when the film was being edited. Norton and Letterier wanted a movie in the ballpark of 2 hours 15 min. Marvel wanted it under 2 hours.
Norton also demanded more money sort of like Terrence Howard.
J Man Interesting. I've always heard it was a personality issue. They both have a rep for being hard to work with.
It's a rumor, but it wouldn't surprise me considering Norton was pretty upset with how Incredible Hulk was edited to one hour.
I've always heard that Nortan is a bit hard to work with
Personally, I've never liked the idea of Banner and Hulk being separate characters. I've always thought that Hulk should simply be Banner's repressed feelings. Thankfully, little in the MCU has suggested that they're separate beings thus far.
would be better if you can see the movie!
Are you guys skipping Punisher War Zone?
Johan Hultcrantz We did on accident. We've recorded Origins. That'll be right after.
Cool. I was just curious.
Geekvolution you know there's a list on Wikipedia that you can follow
I felt Ultimate Hulk was a bit too rapey and would really turn off movie audience that would make him too unlikable
They definitely should bring back Betty. I hate Hulktasha.
Any reason you don't want to do Big Hero 6? You can always justify it by saying you're only doing theatrical films, BH6 is the only theatrical animated film.
Jacob May The plan from the beginning was theatrical and live action.
This is not better then Blade 1 or 2.
This movie suuuuucks.
