Tibidabo announced this ride will now offer VR for the 2023 season. This will dramatically slow load times for this coaster. This makes it critical to hit this ride early in the day now to avoid a long wait. I'm surprised they would put VR on a coaster with a view this amazing.
I guess they need gimmicks to stand out. Despite being better off that most other parks in Spain financially, mainly due to it's historical importance and close proximity to Barcelona combined with the lower size and thus manteinance cost of the park, Tibidabo still simply can't compete in any reasonable way with Port Aventura. This is why for the longest time the main effort has been to offer a more kid-friendly and unique experience through it's large selection of family rides and it's museums, as well as keep the nostalgic feel of the park by carefully maintaining their more unique attractions like the ancient and iconic Avió. There was a moment where they considered modernizing the park, but given that what was supposed to be the first stepstone into a beacon for thrill seeker, Pèndol, ended up killing a passenger after years of continous minor malfunctions that kept draining their resources, those plans got completely abandoned in favor of emphasizing the family angle described above. Worth noting is that on both this and the mine train, the VR thing starts a couple hours after the park opens, so if you hurry up you can still enjoy the view of either coaster.
Just went yesterday on a crowded day. No wait over 5-10 min during the first half of the day. The vr is totally optional, and most were opting not to use it. Even with 10+ people using it, there were 5-6 people working in the station and the wait never felt too long.
I've seen enthusiasts refer to rides with inversions as "family coasters". I know I'd never get my family to go on them! Once I showed my daughter a POV of this coaster and she said "I would poo myself."
I love terrain coasters, and rides that give great views and rush through the trees. This checks all of those boxes. I have kind of heard of this park before, but didn't realize that it had a coaster like this.
This ride and the stingray flying dutchman is where i put the start of vekoma's rebirth, culminating in the ultra smooth thrill coasters from formula at energylandia onwards.
Great review ! Just so you know it, Tibidabo is also the name of the hill is located at, which gives its name to the amusement park. It's a great place for hiking out from the city !
That helix from what I hear is actually pretty intense. Not looking at the fact this ride has one of the best views in the world, the smoothness from what I hear is great and the layout as a whole how it wraps around the terrain is very interesting.
Great review and very, very well researched, as usual. I live in Barcelona and you are right about the controversy that surrounded the project. The park belongs to the city council and they made sure most of the trees were preserved. Facts were blown out of proportion by the local media. I spoke to park management at the time and they had several projects to choose from the leading manufracturers. Intamin got the family concept wrong and their proposal was far to extreme and large so they chose Vekoma. I too think it is a fantastic addition to the park and our city. Only complain is the lack of airtime: maybye if they had lowered the camelback following the double helix...still a great family ride😊
I'm intrigued by that airplane ride seen in the background. It has a similar aesthetic to a Traver circle swing ride after the gondolas have been upgraded to sea planes. Did the park build that in house?
It is one of the historic rides of the park (the park opened on the 1900s, it's the 3rd oldest park in Europe). It is a replica of the 1st plane to make the Madrid-Barcelona flight. It is stuck to that crane structure and spins around, powered by its own helix. It has long queus always, but it is worth it if you are coming only one time in your life :)
I think this ride would have been elite if the drop & camelback gave airtime. I think it already looks pretty incredible just with how it utilizes the terrain and the devilish looking turn at the bottom of the drop.
Whats up with this track? This isn't the normal brooks vekoma track most of their older coasters use. Kinda looks like a beta version of the new gen vekoma track. Any information about this?
Not being an expert, just a local who happens to love this park, I've read something about this coaster being the first of Vekoma to use this kind of track (or something similar, I don't really know much about coaster terminology xd)
I just watched the art museum coaster video. I decided to see what other videos were on the channel, as an interesting-looking mountain coaster was mentioned in the video as being nearby. I then saw this video on the channel page marked as "58 seconds ago."
i have a would you rather question. Would you rather: ride coaster express five times at parque warner madrid. Or ride a vekoma boomerang with arrow dynamics trains for an entire day
It seems like Romance languages usually call a roller coaster a "Russian mountain", and Germanic languages tend to call it a "figure-8-ride". But in Russian, it's an "American mountain"...
As a spanish, catalan and barcelonian, it is quiet funny to see your lack of letter "ñ" for "montaña" in Spanish xd On the other hand, this ride is increible for our little amusement park, and the trees controversies in Spain are studip, they are doing that again for the construction of a metro line (they'll plant lots of trees too, and people don't care too, but media exagerates those situations a lot, not that much people complain) And @Matt McIrvin is right, the translation is Russian Mountain, still I laughed with your joke hahaha
Is this one of the best vekoma's in your opinion or is it weaker I mean vekoma have done tons of excellent coasters Lech Coaster, Fonix, FLY, The Odyssey, Guardian's of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind, Megablitz, Rock N Rollercoaster and countless others
Canobie Coaster said: The new generation Vekomas are praised for their smoothness, but some of their older coasters are mixed bags. But even in their darkest days, Vekoma could still make a smooth family coaster. And I'm happy to say Muntanya Russa is inmaculately smooth in any seat. So what would I rate Muntanya Russa?

I think this ride really pushes the limits of a “family coaster” especially if it has strong positives and has a 100 foot drop
I've seen enthusiasts refer to rides with inversions as "family coasters". I know I'd never get my family to go on them! Once I showed my daughter a POV of this coaster and she said "I would poo myself."
At least this ride offers breathers in between the really intense parts.
I just got off this ride today, it was great !
I’d put it in the same category of “Family Thrill” coaster, like Expedition Everest or Big Bad Wolf.
I love terrain coasters, and rides that give great views and rush through the trees. This checks all of those boxes. I have kind of heard of this park before, but didn't realize that it had a coaster like this.
It's a cool park.

I agree on Stingray. Vekoma was always pretty good at smooth family coasters.
@@CanobieCoaster there are some rough vekoma family coasters out there lool. One in Fårup i remember being hillariously bad for a kiddie
Great review ! Just so you know it, Tibidabo is also the name of the hill is located at, which gives its name to the amusement park. It's a great place for hiking out from the city !
I love the derivation of the name: it comes from the Bible passage where Satan tempts Jesus by showing him the world from the top of a high mountain!
Yes it is.
The last time I was in Barcelona, this ride didn't exist yet. Would love to give it a try.
It's wonderful.
Amazing coaster, love it
Me too.

It really is a great ride.

I agree airtime would have been icing on the cake.
I'm intrigued by that airplane ride seen in the background. It has a similar aesthetic to a Traver circle swing ride after the gondolas have been upgraded to sea planes. Did the park build that in house?
I'm not sure who built that one, sorry!

It's the same ryde sytem as Vogel Rok, another deceptively powerful little Vekoma. The Vekoma renaissance didn't come completely out of nowhere.
They always did a good job with family coasters. Their thrill coasters were the ones that needed work.
The year round haunted house there is something else 😅
It was excellent.
I think this ride would have been elite if the drop & camelback gave airtime. I think it already looks pretty incredible just with how it utilizes the terrain and the devilish looking turn at the bottom of the drop.
Those 2 improvements would have made it truly epic.
A Really Fun Vekoma :)
Sure is.

Probably Coaster Express. At least it's over in 15 minutes.
@@CanobieCoaster yea if can still walk or also stay conscious
I’m so jealous my friend has this cred, he doesn’t even like coasters 😂
Lives in Barcelona?
@@CanobieCoaster No lol, he doesn’t even like coasters he just went on holiday to see his spanish family and they took him to Tibi
I almost grayed out on the very back row + nightride (last ride of the day). It was running soo fast and the first turn felt super intense.
Those turns are no joke.
Bucket list ride easily
Very unique ride.
Did you like Muntanya Russa at Tibidabo more than Dragon Khan at Port Aventura?
No
The helix 1 is insane
Yes it is.
Did you like Muntanya Russa at Tibidabo more than Dragon Khan at Port Aventura? What would you prefer?
No
Best view either this or Klotten's Hot Ride
That's another great one.
Wait so I it in Spain Montana or Russia?

This one and Montaña Suiza compete for the best views on any Spanish coaster
That one looks amazing for views as well.
(plants 200 trees)
"WE DONT CARE GIVE US OUR TREES BACK)
Pretty much.
What’s the thrill of this vs Expedition Everest?
Comparable. Difference is that Everest's intense part occurs going backwards.
Nice revie
Thanks!

I prefer their newer thrill coasters, but this beats their older stuff.
*Wildfire:* Hold My Beer:
I prefer this view.
