  • We all find ourselves at times needing to get ready to play but without the preferred amount of time to do a thorough warm up. In this video, I share how I warm up away from the horn. In fact, this works so well it's how I start every warm up!

The fluttering takes me back to a Bobby Shew clinic I attended in the ‘80s. I seem to remember it being called “horse flaps” but whatever you want to call it, it can be very effective. Thanks for another thoughtful video.

Bobby used to advocate the chop flopping (flapping) as a pre-warm-up which is fantastic for washing away built up lactic (and uretic) acids! Then MPC buzzing in an effort to get in "tune" with the instrument. Maynard also used to Buzz his MPC as a warm-up and Buzz REALLY loud!! As a Reinhardt guy, I don't do any MPC buzzing but if it works-use it! I NEVER tell anybody what to do or what not to do. Try it-if it works-keep it-if not-discard and move on.
