I have been watching on how to do this, but no one really shows how to start it in a way that is understandable until I saw yours. Thank you so much for doing this I think I might have it kinda figured out now. I wanted to study on this rug making before attempting it so I can do it correctly. Now I think I can thanks a lot your instructions are by far the best yet.
Thank you for sharing how to maintain a circle, the 2" strips help keep the rug thick and it hides the extra chain that is needed to get to the next stitch. Your rug technique is show room worthy. The way you softly ended the project is just what I needed to see. I've been finishing with a hard knot that had a tail that was woven back into the project. I also had different widths of cloth strips that I worked with, causing my project to have thick and thinner rows. I've been using multiple strands in my rounds which helps you to add as many colors as you want in a spiral pattern. I limited myself when I stuck to one color per row. I will mix it up again because that made a very exciting rug that has not been duplicated by me yet. Thank you again, 2" Strips it is for rugs.

This is an excellent video with clear video and detailed instructions. The texture of the rug is really lovely. I’m a lefty so I’ll have to relearn my skills or try it right handed. Is there any way you would consider making a tutorial for a rectangle crochet rug? That was my initial search, but this is a great skill builder and I will give it a go. ❤️

I was either going to use the clothes to make a quilt to see where I was or the rug so I could see it year round. Heck, I may have enough for both at this rate. Thank you for sharing this tutorial.

This is the first time I felt like, "Just look at your rug. You can actually see when you need to increase. Easy!" So thank you for that lesson. Why do you increase by adding another chain, instead of inserting another single crochet? What would that do? Wouldn't it avoid leaving a hole?

Just chain length you want, then Hal double crochet back and forth until it is as wide as you need. So simple, and as I am making some for my cold, slate bathroom floors, the entangle fits better. Also making a hall runner as wood floors are also cold!
I enjoyed this! Your hand sometimes went off screen, but I think I got the hang of it anyway. My grandma didn't sew her strips together - she had a no-sew way of adding more length. Wish I knew how.
I'm sure it could be washed. You might want to allow plenty of room in your washer to deep clean it as needed. So if you had a rug any larger than maybe a 2'x4' you might would need to take it to the cleaners.

Hi - as I'm watching I notice you only crochet thru the back loops of each stitch, I've never tried that. Also, adding a loop, why not just add another stitch in the same loop you just crocheted in? Just curious if you have tried it both ways. I'm going to try your way and see how it comes out. Nice rug!

Can they be made so they are shaped like a rectangle or square? Would you just use like a chain stitch to do that. I use to crochet when I was much younger & don't remember many stitch patterns. But I think these are great & I would love to make some for my kitchen.
Francis Jones ya for sure. i try to go to my thrift stores to look for stuff that people have donated..and good will or the salvation army has good stuff too sometimes..so that save money for fabrics.lol I use scrap stuff too and just put pieces together to make bags. But i havent sewn in a while. I miss it..seems like I have no time anymore. Its meditation for me to concentrate on one thing and making it perfect.
I watched your youtube tutorial. I started my first rug. I have a lot of peaks and vallies (lumps and bumps) but got it basically in a circle. The craziest thing is when I changed to my second color and fabric it is waffling now. I have a beautiful ruffed edge. It would be nice if I wanted that for a table lamp but I want to make rugs. I stopped after the second row. Please advise me what do I need to do.
Susan Jackson I would definitely make it a little bigger than the area you are planning for. I haven't tried washing one yet, but as long as you tie it off nicely you shouldn't have any issues. I plan to wash mine in the machine and lay flat to dry.
Ive noticed the higher quality fabrick, the less flyaways you get. Usually cotton is good & jeans seem to work the best. Maybe the thicker the fabric, the less flyaways? Otherwise, I would say carefully burn them off with a lighter like you do on your regular, everyday cloths. Just be careful not to light yourself up & you'll be all right! Good luck.
She seems to not understand adding stitches to the round, leading the center to be loose and airy. Maybe that's desirable for her, but this is not a tutorial I'd recommend. Oh well, on to the next! You should really stitch the fabric first, then crochet with balls of it like yarn. Better to stitch a 45° angle with the ends at 90°, so when you open the fold, they are straight with a diagonal seam. It's more structurally sound that way.
I'm a seamstress so I tend to work more with fabrics. I typically do not crochet. Others have made pieces they love from this tutorial and that's the only reason it was posted.

But if you look at the piece at the end of the video, I didn't notice any holes?
It's just the simple way I've found that works best for me. You can always use techniques that work best for you.

I wanted all of my stitches to look the same and flow the same. I'm sure you could add another stitch in the previous instead of the way I did.

If it's ruffling you were increasing to much, a round of just single crochet would have stopped it

Why do you not sew your rags together on the bias? It makes for a smoother connection. Sewing flat across like that makes a lump.

I didn’t get an understanding of how often - what sequence to add in stitches. How many per round or how often? Every 5 stitches, every 10?
I'm sure you could use bulky yarn, but I haven't tried it so I can answer the question about how many skeins.

Thicker cotton fabric may be ok, but the thicker the fabric the harder it is to work with. A good quality fabric is best.

I would highly recommend it. Your rows may not end up being the same width after stitching.

You're working it too tight. Try to loosen it a bit at a time until you get the desired look.

You do not have to sew it- you can fold it over and slit it then slip the material through the slit- it won’t come out
