- What's in the Limited Edition Super Clodbuster Gray Edition box? How does it differ from the stock Super Clodbuster? Join @robbrennanrc and me for this quick unboxing and overview of this awesome Tamiya kit. We also look at some issues I found with the gray hard ABS body and take a look at Rob's completed chassis.
A massive "THANK YOU" to the super hero who is the RC Elf for gifting this wonderful kit to my channel.

MARK!!! Wow what a big one you have there! The bodyshell is a bit disappointing as l like and thought the point of these bodyshells in grey/gray or black is so that folk don't have to paint them or else what's the point, might as well be in white!
Must confess though l would probably make do as time the decals are on probably would not notice that much!

Good point and I feel the same, why give us a grey body that needs painting?!?!?! Apparently some bodies are not as bad as mine, Andy Robinson had no issues with his, I was just unlucky I guess.
I'm gonna paint it though as I want it to be as good as it can, and use a basher body for a bit of fun! Cheers mate, catch ya later! :)

That's a great limited edition fella, think I would have to buy a cheap second hand body off ebay for running.... those trucks are renowned for wheelies and tumbles. 😬
Particularly excited to watch this, I've had my super clod kit over a year now but still haven't built it as I am fast running out of display space in the hobby room!
Interesting regarding the ESC.... Mine came with a Tamiya TBLE series dual motor ESC which I presumed was fine for NIMH (which I usually use).... I had better check up on that when I finally get her built.
All in all theres quite a lot in that kit for the money.... but plastic bushings still?? 🙄 Come on Tamiya, sort it out!
And, I know you don't like friction shocks.... but they really work well with this kit from what I've seen-
They bounce just like the real eighties monster trucks of that time!

Yeah, shame about the marks on the raw grey shell.... all the channels I've seen with a grey edition mention it.
But, personally I feel its always best to paint these rigs anyway.... Just looks so much nicer seeing a polished sheen finish.
Always good to have a basher shell to, especially the way we drive! 🤣

Yeah the mold marks was a bit disappointing when I got mine but painted it looks really nice! It is a fun build and a boat load of fun out bobbling around just like a classic monster truck from the 80s!!!!
Definitely a bummer, Addam! I was surprised how bad the mould marks were! Looking forward to getting some paint on her and blasting around with Rob. This really is a PROPER 80s monster truck! Cheers!

I thought I was desperate for the Black Edition, I can't describe how much I'd like to own one of these. I keep toying with the idea of taking the plunge ... We'll see. Think I'm just gonna go with a standard Super Clodbuster and do an unusual paint job. Looking forward to seeing the build series on this, Mark. 👍

Always great listening to the two of you babbling along while unboxing, that wibbly wobbly joke never gets old, does it?
And I learned something new, I didn't actually realise there is different ways to spell gray, I always used an a because it sounds more right that way.
So you will be doing a build series on yours, and Rob just hurried to get his done, ha ha. Looking forward to following along, especially for when they are both in action, see you two goofing around with those big toy cars, it'll be great!

Hi mate, yeah, the first thing I spotted when the video started was the odd spelling of 'gray', denoting it as an American version.' It just jumped out at me. Only having seen the Clod from a distance, I never knew this one had twin motors / gear boxes. I suppose given the size it makes perfect sense. It looks like a stunning bit of kit and certainly a higher grade Tamiya kit. I'm glad you're going box art with this one as it really does look cool in the scheme Tamiya designed. Look forward to seeing this leviathan out and about on a run video. Take care dude and have a good weekend :))
Hiya dude, Happy Friday to you! Definitely, I was put off by the spelling of "Grey", it just doesn't look right to us Brits! Yeah this is a real beast of a truck, motor on each axle, 4 wheel steer and those TYRES!!! I think it needs 2 motors just to get them turning! Yep, box art is required on a special edition, but I may be going matt grey and matt black on the grille and bumpers to give it an even meaner look. I think I'll take my time on this one mate. Hiya matey. Oh yes very nice indeed and hooray for the Elf. I did wonder about the American spelling of grey and didn't realise that it's not been released here. I think those tyres are bigger than the ones on my latest Arrma and they are enormous. I'm never keen to leave the body plastic unpainted anyway because you need to sand off the mould lines and make it look tidy. Will look much nicer if you paint it. I think it was on Rob's video that you were saying about getting a basher body which is a must I'd have thought as be sad to smash that one up. Hiya Pete! Hooray indeed, the Elf is King!!! Yep I recon not much is known about this version as it's local to the US. Those tyres are something to behold, and to sniff! I saw Andy Robinson leave his shell unpainted and it looked great, but this one has got to be coated! You are right, it will look so much better. Definitely gonna get a basher body as the grey one is what makes it special. I might have an old one that'll fit. How can I not think of my mate Pete when I handle a wibbly wobbly?!?!?! Cool kit! I can't imagine anyone doing one of these trucks and using the bushings because once it's together it would take so much work to replace them. You really don't need a brace mine been fine stock also when the body goes on it acts kind of just like that brace Rob made to stop the flex, Have fun with it Mark!

Great video Mark. These H-parts in two versions are the higjlight of the kit. They allow to get a personal touch by the combinations they prevent by being twice. I wish this car'll be availble here, sometimes.

Even cheap crawlers generally come with metal shielded bearings, and I'm used to thinking of them as basic and immediately replacing then with rubber sealed ones... it was quite weird getting what looked like Polo mints with my Holiday Buggy (I was at least expecting brass bushes like I got with the Rough Rider 40+ years ago). Felt sort of weird upgrading the buggy with my downgrade stash... 🤣🤷♂️ Tamiya and their quirkiness, eh? 🤦 Even actual Polo minutes would be preferable. Anyway, that (and the stress marks in the body) aside, this is going to look amazing! 😎👍

Great to hear that you seem to be building a Holiday Buggy, welcome to the club! But anyway, upgrading using your existing stash is a good thing and the planet thanks you, too! That’s a lot of parts for that big beast. How long did it take Rob to build his? You both should each create a driver inside of the truck that represents yourselves. That was a very cool unboxing!😎👍🏻

Nice video! Mine also has all the molding marks, and I’m assuming that they all come like this? I don’t care for the gunship grey and prefer the light grey the way it comes to match the wheels. The other grey is darker. The stickers cover up most of the molding marks anyways and I can live with the rest….

Awesome video Mark!!!!! Glad to see you happy my friend!!! The Clod Buster is "The Lego of RC Trucks"!!!! I guess I'll have to paint mine as well, mine has that marble looking molding too. Also, glad to hear Rob got a card for the esc's, that's gonna come in handy. Someone makes bead lock wheels for the Clod but they weigh a ton, just ebay search Clod Buster parts and BAM, in your face with all kinds of stuff (give the wife your wallet first) LOL. Dude, this is your first ever Clod, and it's a limited kit, and maybe your first build of 2023, what a way to start the new year!!!!! Thanks for the shout out, is 5812 something RUclips puts in? All your help over the past few years did not go un-noticed (As I told Rob too) and your friendship(s)!!! If you wanna be a bit faster than Rob, use very little gear on the gears (when I raced, I didn't use any) LOL. Another trick we used, we would open the vent holes in the wheels (most times we drilled 4, half inch holes in the wheels), great for racing but not for bashing. ATB my friend and can't wait to watch the builds!!!!!!!
Thanks brother Bob! I can now see what you mean about a "Lego" RC!!! Yeah the body just isn't good enough to leave "as is" in my opinion, it's too pretty to leave the scars showing! That ESC card is golden and was not expensive thank goodness. I think I'll leave the wheels stock, thanks, it's heavy enough already! @@MarkBryanRC I agree about the body, I think Tamiya could have blended the plastic a bit more. Tamiya putty (I think you have some) fills those dimples good after a bit of light sanding, then sanding the putty then priming before painting. I did say I think the card was about a 10er, glad I was right. Brother, I'm watching Pete's video as I type and thinking, "What the hell would Mark do with an RC that fast?" Just crazy fast... Anyway, I'm sure between you & Rob, you guys have old beat up bodies you can run over (Not your physical bodies either, LOL). ATB my friend & I hope you guys do find lexan bodies across the pond..

I've heard and seen a number of times about the imperfections in the body. It's definitely too bad so it's definitely going to have to be painted. But overall I really love the look of this version!

@@MarkBryanRC There's just something about it. Maybe it's because the grill is black but it looks and feels more like a "real" truck. I can't quite put my finger on it just that I know I love it. I have one too but haven't opened it yet as I have a number of other projects on the go right now. But I just couldn't pass it up knowing that it is going to be a very limited edition. It's very cool that you were able to get one being in the UK!

I just got the sand scorcher this Xmas and the body is covered with them marks the same ..I bought the sand scorcher body shell kit for a TT02 build I’ve done and that’s the same ,all in the same places .after 5 coats of plastic primer and 3 good coats of paint and lacquer you can still see them,they look awful ,full of crazes under the paint .for what the sand scorcher costs it’s not a very good advert for Tamiya QC.

@@MarkBryanRC it’s fine fella..too be honest I don’t bother going mad with paint jobs now as as soon as you use them it’s gonna be scratched and dented especially abs bodies ,they don’t seem to like a lot of knocking about if they’re on fast off-road cars .crawlers seem fine .but the quality of the beetle shell is a bit iffy .I think the blitzer beetle has the same problem on some of the bodies too .the near side door and quarter panels are crazed on both of the scorcher kit body and the scorcher body kit I bought for a TT02 rallycross car I’m doing .the lines on the wing tops and body are easy enough to remove but the crazes are a pain .I’ve filled them with AK model filler ,high build primer But you can still see them but hey.I’m not using the kit door numbers or the stickers on the quarter so I can’t hide them with the decals .it’ll be bashed about after a few runs and probably won’t bother about it .
