So sorry for your loss. I can't imagine the pain you must still go through. But I can imagine John being there for and consoling you every step of the way.
To me John Prine is one of a kind . One of the best song writers to walk this earth . Not much of a country music person . John Prine and Blaze Foley are pretty much it for me. 2 of the best both gone . The world will never replace thier talents .
I could listen all day to John Prine and wonder why he isn’t right up there with Bob Dylan? I’m 75, but had never heard of him until we lost him to Covid.

One of my all time favorites, and listening to people laughing sounded like another nail in our collective hearts. John shoulda been a Wilbury seein how he's every bit song writer the other five guys were.
Mr. Prine. It's always a pleasure, Sir, to run across your music. I can never state strongly enough to suit myself what a unique personality you are. I don't know whether your music brings you to life, or life brought the music to you.
I have been a John fan since about 1975, wore this album out! Like most of his dedicated following, spent many hours re-visiting his catalogue around the time of his passing and missed this sad poignant tune. Have not heard it for years. Thank you for posting, gonna play it again 💙
Saw him Nov 2019 in Tampa. Tremendous concert, I love this guy! "For a heart stained in anger grows weak and grows bitter. You become your own prisoner as you watch yourself sit there, wrapped up in a trap ... of your very own chain of sorrow"
Amazing that the basis for the song was an event that happened when he was 14. I wonder if he wrote the song then or years later. Either way it shows what a great songwriter he is, since he paints pictures or sings a film of real events in life.
I recorded this when it was broadcast by holding the mike of one of those old-fashioned mono cassette recorders near the TV speakers. Listened to it for years. Strange to come across it again.
What an amazing line! The laughing was infuriating....perhaps the crowd was uncomfortable with a serious song. Still, "I'll never forget the looks on those other women's faces."
When I was an altar boy, I used to take a shortcut at 7 in the morning through the railroad yards to get to church. By myself, past all the bums and everything. Freight trains all over the place. Also rain, snow, whatever.
This is deep philosophical truth right here: But it don't do no good to get angry So help me, I know For a heart stained in anger grows weak and grows bitter You become your own prisoner as you watch yourself sit there Wrapped up in a trap of your very own Chain of sorrow

Every time i listen to a Prine song, i am in awe.Makes me so sad that he is gone. This song is heartbreaking.
