Excellent idea with the bed conversion slats to king size bed . Hopefully the center cushion will not feel like a crevice to fall into. I did a similar version bed extension from 54x80 to a 67 x80 making it a more comfortable bed size. Custom mattress made to make the Airstream front curve took a month to order.
We're hoping to have the cushion the same material and height as the mattresses to reduce that sinking feeling. What mattress company did you end up using? ~D
Custom Mattress Factory is who I used. It worked well and I told them what kind of airstream mattress I had so they could match the height. It did however take at least 4-6 weeks. Worked out well.
We still have not replaced the mattresses! 😂 We put some foam around the edge to fill in the gap hoping we would find the right mattresses. We have since removed the slats and are probably just going to put in more support for the mattresses we have. A good topper makes a big difference. ~D
You are correct; the plugs are on the side. We used elbow adapters from amazon so the plugs don't get damaged. We used them even before we did the conversion. amzn.to/3y90ePy ~D

Could of saved time and placed a piece of plywood over the bed forms. Just make a cardboard template and drill some holes in the plywood.
