i would take the x1 and use it to drive around to meetings where we discuss the formation of a system of concentration camps for mini owners to be re-educated
Maybe I’m biased, but when I put my x1 in sport and transmission into sport, it feels like a really quick car. I love having the space of an suv but the capability of my suv to feel “car like.” I’ve owned a n54 335xi, obviously this isn’t that kinda car, but I still feel bmw did a great job with the single turbo.
Haha you might be biased... it's an acceptably 'nimble car' but I wouldn't go as far as to say "really quick". I actually don't think the engine is the issue, it's just not a very dynamic platform - fwd based and a higher center of gravity. But, for those who want affordable luxury/practicality... it smokes the likes of a compact sedan!
You need to install either 19" aftermarket wheels with wider tires like 245 or 255 and you will have a much better handling experience. Some people on the forum even lower them. I think this is better looking than the X2. A BMW users group recently voted this vehicle among the best looking BMW's especially for an SUV and up there with some of the more expensive models. You have to remember that this is biased as a front wheel drive and the shifts power to the rear wheels as the front lose grip. It doesn't lean as much as many others in it's category. If you think this is expensive how about the Mazda CX-5 with the optional leather interior, the Honda CR-V which now has a Black Edition available that costs a lot more than the X1 and the Acura RDX which IMHO doesn't have as nice an interior and the X1 has a superior infotainment system. Volvo is much more expensive and the Audi Q3 is not as nice. I'm not a fan the the GLA's melted butter look. I think the Mini look is starting to look a bit tired. Here is the best part of this vehicle, you can hire a programmer that can add software functionality such as lighting up the door handles while backing up, folding the mirrors by pressing down on the door handle a bit longer...so standard 2 seconds to lock and optionally if you press a bit longer the mirrors will fold. Holding down the open button on the key FOB will open all the windows and sunroof and pressing on the lock button or on the handle will close everything including the sun shade. Also you can reprogram 3 important things: throttle response, transmission shift points and speed and engine HP and TQ to just about 300 HP with a BMS Cold Air box and intake. This would cost about $100 to do the software upgrade and 350 to 450 to do the ECU engine remapping. In Canada this vehicle is available with an M sport package which may interest some people. It comes with M sport BMW Blue calipers, M sports suspension (dampers) and handling package including the differential and M sports steering. The included options on the sports package in Canada is superior to the options available in the US model. I have tried both and you get the paddle shifters and BMW's shift lever. I prefer the looks of the X-line over the M sport package and i found the ride a bit smoother. Lexus is more expensive and not as good looking inside and out. There are a lot of cool options that you can add to this vehicle on Ebay such as a contoured box that fits under the arm rest to hid that space underneath and it looks amazing like OEM from BMW and a few other features that are really cool. I disagree with your view regarding the boxiness of this SUV. I find that it reminds me of the old X3 and X5 in the rear and has the nice BMW design elements in the front. I especially like the character lines that follow along the sides of the vehicle to the rear. That subtle crease that makes it look stylish. Honestly you have to look twice sometimes to distinguish this from an X3. If you find that you're not seating high enough, I suggest you try raising the seats....they do raise up quite a bit, you'd be pleasantly surprised regarding how much headroom you have and even with that panoramic sunroof which is one of the biggest in it's class. I find that for Canada since BMW lowered the price to $39K starting it's amazing value now. They had to because of Hyundai and Kia. Look at that Palisade and Telluride...they are the value leaders in the SUV market. Also you can add after market speakers and powered sub in the trunk under the trunk cover and you'll get much better sound for less money that the optional HK sound system. Nice review however I happy to add a few things that you missed. If it were me and i had the extra $ I would contact a dealer and buy a demo year end model X3 M4.0 or a slightly used low mileage lease back. That inline 6 TT is one of the best engines on the market and is available on a lot of other BMW vehicles and that engine can also be tuned to higher output.
@@Reoniz I have one. I'm 65 and a car guy. I've purchased, leased, rented all sorts of cars and brands since I was 17. My first new car was 1985 VW GTI limited edition Wolfsburg. It was the 1985 COTY (car of the year) Motor Trend. I still have the magazine. My favorite Sedan was my 2005 Nissan Maxima which I modified wheels, CAI, all sorts of engine mods and lowered the suspension, modified the exhaust. Our 2018 X1 is the first new vehicle that we purchased that didn't require a trip back to the dealership for a warranty issue! The vehicle has 24k kms and is 2 years and 4 months "old" . My favorite BMW is the X3 M4.0 because it's easy to remap the engine, turbo, transmission, pedal and that 3.0 liter straight 6 TT.
Haha thank you man!! I'll be honest, if you're wondering the difference between the two in regards to the X1 or X2... it's won't be a very perceivable difference unless your plan to drive on dirt/snow/sand while on all season tires. If you however are talking about the differences of say an xDrive M340i vs an sDrive, then the handling and acceleration differences would begin to stand out more !! Hope that helps
Appreciate it! I'll definitely throw some more tech info into my new reviews when I can! Definitely on my list, but haven't gotten my hands on the new GLA just yet 🙏🏼
I have far less seat time in the Caddy, so it's hard to say. I will admit that the XT4 looks better in my eyes, but I like what BMW stands for more. Drive both and pick the one you like more or the one that cost less $ !!

@@Reoniz Yeah, I still think it is close to if not leads the affordable crossover market. The competition either has a crossover that looks too small compared to this one or comes from a unreliable brand. (Opinion)
@@lil_lyrix not a completely unfounded opinion, I'd still take a base XC40 over this though. I think that's only 'crossover' that wins over this car... or at least until I drive the Mercedes GLA and GLB
