They did have a game plan. What Adam's meant was they weren't prepared for baker to come in the game. I mean by watching the game the massivel difference in defensive success kinda screams that. On a short week to you can only prepare so much for 1 qb let alone 2
That was the Jets 3rd game in 11 days and they were dominating when Tyrod was in the game because thats who they game planned for. Baker came in letting it fly because he knew it was his chance to take the starting job and had a half to watch from the sideline how the jets were defending.
Were we all watching the same game? The Jets weren't dominating. Tyrod missed a open touchdown pass and multiple times had receivers open but either didn't make the read fast enough or was just scared to make the throw. What it sounds like to me people are saying is that the Jets planned on leaving those receivers open because they knew tyrod would hold on to the ball. That's the dumbest attempt at explaining a lose almost ever. The line didn't block better for Baker, the ball just came out of his hands faster.
The line blocked better for Mayfield. It was noticeable. But the line didnt have to hold their blocks near as long with Baker as they did with Tyrod. Tyrod held the ball too long and the line had to hold their blocks that much longer, but not only that he wasnt seeing open receivers that he should have. Mayfield got rid of the ball fast and doing that make it easier on the line. Even the line gets tired from holding blocks, and Tyrod just wore out his line and didnt make plays for all that hard work up front. I wonder why his protection collapsed? Not really..
Dam! Finally someone gets it! Tyrods indecisiveness made it easy for the D. They knew he would either run it himself or pass short, basically 1 dimensional in a sense.
From what I saw, Baker face more zone while Tyrod faced more man. Against zone receivers could run shorter routes and find open spot. So quicker passes, less holding your blocks. Tyrod facing man takes longer for receiver to get open. Have to wait and see what happens if Baker is the starter and teams are able to scout him.
Gregory LaGrange A lot of what Baker did is indefensible, he was firing darts 2.5 seconds after the snap and he has the play makers to make things happen if Todd Haley calls a good game defenses will always have problems.
I thought it was because baker was white and they didn’t wanna block for tyrod, only reason I thought that because I never seen big guys (O line) get energy as the game goes on. Just a coincidence I suppose
@@avb6100 oh but his QBR was 4th last year lol. I watch the games and can see that Dak sucks. I don't need QBR or some other silly stat to try to prove if a qb is good or not.
I heard right on the broadcast of the game, that the Jets DID have a gameplan for Baker Mayfield when he came out. They lost and now they're saying they didn't? So which is it?
If you actually watched the game they blitzed Tyrod and fell for double moves and even let receivers get behind them a couple times but tyrod couldn’t hit them Baker had the awareness to slide protection and hit his receivers downfield
Wait.. so a "professional" NFL team laced with veterans on the defensive side of the ball, wants to use the excuse of not having a game plan against: ... (lets see) a rookie quarterback, who had never taken a regular season snap, came in cold off the bench, down 14 points, and also NEVER had a single rep with the ones in practice.. THATS the guy you needed to "game plan" for..?? Mannnn... get out of here with that mess. GIVE Greg Williams, Myles Garrett, Denzel Ward, Gennard Avery, Peppers, Shcobert, Ogunjobi; and the REST of the Browns defense - an ice cold rookie quarterback, in the middle of the game, with a 14 point lead, and they would eat that rookie ALIVE.. And if they didn't, they wouldn't make excuses for it. Its all about a mindset of either winning, or holding yourself accountable for not winning... Seems like the J-E-T-S's mindsets are about making excuses.
So Baker beating Ohio State in college wasn't a big deal? Baker coming back from a 14 point deficit isn't a big deal as a rookie with no first team reps. It's a big deal!
naw just truthful... u cant tell me the browns dont look good this year.. just based on our defence we will be in every single game, and once u add baker in?? nah we winning a good 10 then year
im not... lets keep it a G we have a top 5 defence with a now solid qb and kicker... we should have beaten 2 superbowl contending teams without a decent player at 2 key positions now that we have that, i think the sky is the limit
Knowing how Hue coaches the Browns, Baker would not have seen the field on TNF if Tyrod was healthy. It's almost like Hue hates winning football games. As a lifelong Browns fan, I promise that Baker Mayfield would never see the field last Thursday unless Tyrod got hurt. We're not capable of making good choices in-game unless we have no other choice.
Skip is a man of extremes. Either you hate a player or love him, Shannon can’t give a compliment to Baker or else he loses the argument, that’s why he can’t give Lebron his credit.
i think with a qb like taylor regular practice is sufficient enough along with a general basis on game plan focus and they DID plan on baker coming in and prepared for it just like every team they faced the first 3 weeks
Skip hasn't been this exited and happy about a QB since Tim Tebow, let's hope this doesn't turn out the same. It's just funny cause Baker Mayfield is to Skip Bayless, as Sam Darnold was to Colin Coward.
Tyrod Taylor 2018: 41-84 462 yds 2td's 2 int's. 48% completion. Make all the excuses you want but stats don't lie. Forget Jets didn't game plan for BAKER THEY WERE GONNA DRAFT BAKER AND STUDIED EVERY SINGLE MISTAKE HE EVER MADE IN GAMES.
The line blocked better because Baker was calling out blitzes unlike Tyrod. Baker also fit throws into very tight windows. Baker mayfield is a playmaker at qb that tyrod isn’t and the other playmakers now have plays to be made because baker gave them the opportunity to make plays
They were prepared to challenge Tyrod to take the deep ball shot. If you watch that game play by play and break down the coverages they were dating him to complete a deep ball, and they were right to do it. He never identified blitzes and never took the dump off to counter those blitzes for a small gain because jets were covering the center of the field so tight. Of course they couldn't prepare for Baker, and even when they put themselves in great positions to make a play Baker fit that ball into such tight windows it's incredible. Feel like Skip doesn't know a single thing about football except if something passes his eye test.
Baker is better off getting Int or a few early in his attempt to be a new starter then doing well and being perfect cause a true test is what a QB is made of if mess up.
No game plan? You’re telling me professional coaches in the NFL had a whole half time and two quarters to adjust and couldn’t? Nah I don’t buy it. Baker was reading blitzes and getting the ball out quickly.
The O-Line still blocked the same way. The difference is Baker sees the field better and knows his and his offenses strengths. Tyrod doesn't and also Tyrod missed a lot of open passes. Shannon you need to look at the tapes. Victory for Skip
If you’ve never played a sport you wouldn’t understand Shannon, but you never gameplan for a backup during the week. No matter who the backup is there’s not enough time to game plan for them and install it into practice and run it the same.
If Baker was a black rookie quarterback , Shannon sharp would have him in the hall of fame, there’s no way to discount a super fast release, and total accuracy...he’s also very calm and elusive, rookie or no rookie
You can't judge a QB until the defenses have a good amount of film on him. Then the game changes. Ask Prescott and Watson. What Skip doesn't take into account is player tendencies. If Baker tends to be aggressive and push the ball down field and Taylor tends to be safe with the ball it doesn't matter that they called the same plays. The ball isn't going where the defense anticipated. That's like preparing to fight Ali and Tyson steps in the ring instead. Your whole game plan goes out the window.
I completely agree. Especially being a Browns fan. But I gotta say don't count Darnold out. I think he will be legit. Every time I see him take a snap I can't help but think of Roethlisberger. At this moment though he has so little to work with it is depressing. I mean when you have exBrowns that couldn't get the job done in Cleveland lining up as your 1's your offense has a problem. Crowell and Pryor are on their good days 2's but most others 3's. His only real threats as offensive weapons are Powell and Enunwa. Shut those 2 out and Darnold has pretty much squat to use. The Jets need to concentrate this draft on getting him some actual threats at WR and a power 3rd down back to assist Powell. Maybe even a FB to help push Powell a little further.
Bruh they ran the same offense, except without the threat of the scramble run. How's that harder? Were they game planning for a QB taking too long to get the ball out?
that's not an excuse look what dak did his rookie year when teams didn't have much tape on him?? they were prepared for tyrod this whole time which is why they were dominating him and cle it's hard to switch your whole gameplay for another qb but you wouldn't know because you probably never played football before
Sebastian Mireles add that there’s no game tape on Baker. It’s a small sample but baker threw to his right much more than his left side so maybe defenses shift their coverage to the right a bit.
You don’t understand football then they don’t have real game film on him to see his tendieses and style so you can’t be prepared fully you can run you typical defenses according to formation but that’s about it so he looked more proficient then he is y’all gone see the more he play the more those tight throws he shouldn’t be attempting will turn into picks

What about ap rushing 96 yards or more and two tds last Sunday and tiger woods win. I'm tired of hearing about the cowgirls and their mess of a team. And Mayfield and the browns. Tiger and ap is more news worthy
I agree they didn t have a game plan for Baker. They had no film. But Baker had no film. He had never played in a national football game before. He is a true rookie who came off the bench midway through the game. And with ZERO reps with the guys who were on the field. If being a goid QB has anything to do with having your timing down with your receivers matters, perhaps he should have taken a quarter to work it out. But he didn t. He just three the ball. Yes there was almost an interception, but the guy didn t catch it. He wasn't ready for what was coming at him just as Bakers own receivers struggled. He will have some ups and downs, but come on..... that was an awesome performance from a guy who had ZERO reps with his own team. It's strange how many sports segments start out talking about one thing, and up making a reference to Baker. If nothing else..... And I believe there is much more, but if nothing else.... entertainment has come to Cleveland.
They planned for Baker. Tyrod was running Bakers offense with basic play calls. The play calls from game 1 has been terrible. Taylor had NO chance. There’s evidence of this if you just watch the game...particularly, O-line number 75.
How many games will the Browns win this season?

Uhh Jamal, what about Baker not getting reps with the 1's all week?
What about ap rushing 96 yards or more and two tds last Sunday and tiger woods win. I'm tired of hearing about the cowgirls and their mess of a team. And Mayfield and the browns. Tiger and ap is more news worthy
Marcus Copeland but the girls sells...🙂
Lol they will never give this dude his credit. They just waiting for him to fail.
How's the chargers doing Shannon? S.B. contenders for sure.
So nobody on the Jets thought that they should gameplan against the first overall pick, who has an underwhelming quarterback in front of him? 🤔
Aidan Finnegan it was a short week they played Sunday and had to play Thursday
And I believe there is much more, but if nothing else.... entertainment has come to Cleveland.
hemax passes how hard would it be to he's got the same receivers he doesn't run come on how hard is it to just your game plan to that
They planned for Baker. Tyrod was running Bakers offense with basic play calls. The play calls from game 1 has been terrible. Taylor had NO chance. There’s evidence of this if you just watch the game...particularly, O-line number 75.
Eli had a QBR of 132. How was it the best of the weekend?
