Bultaco's and Montessas were beautiful bikes. Watched them race on TT track at Ascot in So. California, late 60s early 70s. Loved the smell of 2 stroke smoke in the air.
Wow this bike takes me back to my childhood my friends older brother had the same bike everyone else had Hondas or Yamahas and Suzuki I remember how fast it was . Great coverage of the vintage bikes
Had a buddy back in 1971 who rode his Bultaco back and forth to school every day rain or shine. About 40 miles a day. He was a real funny dude and we nicknamed him "Buford Bultaco". Buford was sumthin else!
Thanks Chris , good video , fantastic bike in belgium was a great bultaco shop in the seventies Marcel and Jacky wiertz , your fan Henri put belgium 🇧🇪 , cheers friend have a good day
First bike shown was a MK 10 250 Pursang. Model 192. Made in 1977. Second one was a MK 2 250 Pursang, model 42. Made between 1967 to 1968. Last one was a MK8 360 Pursang. Made between 1974 and 1976. Model 136. Martin Lampkins bike was basically a Model 159 which was released to the world in 1975. 1976 over here in Australia.
You know your Bultacos I had a 74 250 Persang. It was out of the hole faster than my RM370. Top end Suzuki, suspension, brakes, Suzuki ,as for the fastest bike to flip me time and time . Bultaco would kick my Suzukis ass . I owned my taco for 20 something years never knew other numbers on it. I bought it from my brother-in-law. It damn near killed him,it sat on a milk crate for years before I bought it. His best friend bought the 360 . Jerry still has it but I know he hasn’t started it in 40 years. He afraid of it and he WILL not sell it. It’s 14* Fahrenheit in upstate New York. Have a great day.
I bought a new 125 Pursang in 1972, I sold it this Fall. All my other Bultacos went too including a 1973 360 Astro. I saw this video and now I’m a little sad. Thank you… I wish Senior Bulto had kept the company together.
Ted I thought you already knew “a Bultaco is for life and not just for racing” . . but many of these older European Classics are fast become collectors items now.
JB I’ve got a nearly perfectly restored 72 Pursang 125. It won “best race bike” trophy at a show in Colorado a couple of years ago. Might have to sell to pay for a knee replacement. ( I’m 76yo).
I had mk 5 mk 6 and mk 7 250 pursangs their handling was far superior to other brands in the day , The piston rings needed relacing frequently. The best days of my life,
My favorite bike 74 250 Persang had one. The rear end raced the front end every where and won a lot . I’m 6’3” 220 lbs . It would flip you so fast.Got tired of coming home and something was broke. It was me not the bike. I still miss it.
In 1975 I rode a 250 mk8 pursang from a Friends of mine....It was powerfull, gentle, progresive... Very nice experience compared to my mikkola réplica 250 husky ...that was raw power and rage.
I first learned to ride on my dad's ~73 Sherpa T 250, then graduated to his Pursang 250 that he won trophies on. Beat an ~ 1993 Suzuki 450-whatever 4-stroke in a race. These bikes kicked some ass.
Awesome videos Chris, thank you for sharing your moments at this splendid show I never knew existed!! I have added the Telford Dirt Bike Show to my bucket list. I have a 1983 WR430 rider and love to zip around St. Augustine, Florida on it. Now I have a craving to own a XC…
Hi Charles thanks for your comments and I hope you’ve watched the complete coverage of the show for 2022 as there are 5 Parts on my You Tube Channel with almost five hours of footage.
That red one was the first "pursang" (true blood) with that name after the "metisse" (mixed blood in french). Named "pure blood" because was integrally designed by Bultaco, instead of the "Mixed blood" which had a Bultaco engine, and a British chassis designed by Bob and Derek Rickman. (That's also why they are the only Bultacos with french names)
Bultaco name was a mixture of the last name and the first name of the founder and owner of the factory, Mr. Francisco Bultó. Pursang means a Pure Blood horse in Catalonian language. Pura Sangre in Spanish. The symbol of this model is the head of a horse.
Thanks Chris for posting your video. Excellent job. Great review on the 1977 Bultaco 250 Pursang. Do you know the owner of that bike? He or she did a great job restoring it. The shocks are original Betor shocks.
Thanks Remick and no I don’t know the owner of the bike as I never actually spoke to anyone on the stand on the day but I agree what a belter of a bike.
The 77' Pursang looks like it has never been used ! I don't think that is a restoration. Some things might have been made nicer than showroom floor bikes. 😁
Hi Raymond - I think it has been restored. The seat doesn't have the original seat cover. They have done a great job. I am currently restoring my 77' Pursang 370 and hoping it will be similar to that beautiful 250 on the video.
THE RED FIBREGLASS ... IT S A 68 250 PURSANG....I RACED ONE ..AT IDIAN DUNES....IT WAS A HEAVY BIKE. AT 300 POUNDS.....HAD TORQUE. BUT NOT HIGH HORSES.....IT WAS NOT COMPETITIVE BY 72...OR THREE. WITH THE JAPANESE BIKES..
The Pursangs were never that nice, the factory quality was way worse than those restorations, I saw them new, they were rough. But that's what Bultaco owners liked. I rode a Chispa when I was 7, then I rode a sherpa (my uncle's), but then switched to motocross racing aboard a Puch (at 13).
I'm a vintage racer, and have a place in my heart for all the brands from the day, unfortunately this country now has made it legal for sex with animals. Can't imagine that huh, mates ? Well it's true.
No Alpina damn! I used to ride dirt bikes down here in Louisiana back in the 70's. The 3 bikes I rode during that time and price I paid for them. 1st Hodaka 100B bought new $285. 2nd Bultaco Alpina 250 bought used $350. 3rd Yamaha IT 175 bought new $785. I could kick myself for not hanging on to all 3 of these.
Thanks ! The closeup of the Bultaco 250 handgrip gave me memory chills..
I loved my Bultacos. They were amazing bikes in performance, sound, handling, and looks. The best dirt bikes ever.
Bultaco's and Montessas were beautiful bikes. Watched them race on TT track at Ascot in So. California, late 60s early 70s. Loved the smell of 2 stroke smoke in the air.

Had a buddy back in 1971 who rode his Bultaco back and forth to school every day rain or shine. About 40 miles a day. He was a real funny dude and we nicknamed him "Buford Bultaco". Buford was sumthin else!

The second bike if restored correctly would be a MK3, model 48. MK2 had monobloc carb, up pipe and no side screws on rear fender.
You know your Bultaco's . the simplicity of the year and model number made stocking parts very easy
I enjoy my model 159 Sherpa t. Fully restored

I've got a 1976 bultaco 250 Sherpa T
Still have my Mk 5 250 Pursing that I campaigned in the early '70s, needing a conrod and restoration.
Nice show!
I had a 78 (blue) 370 Frontera. bought new in 79. my god, what a monster. it was so fast my eyes would water, going up hill
I used to love going to the Spanish Bull Taco stands in San Diego on my Pursang 250 MKII.
I had mk 5 mk 6 and mk 7 250 pursangs their handling was far superior to other brands in the day , The piston rings needed relacing frequently. The best days of my life,
Bultaco.all the way..
Love my 360 Astro
Rode BULLYS back when l was a lad. Japanese bikes could not compare with these wonderful machines.
I had a Rickman Matise 250 Bultaco. In 1967
My favorite bike 74 250 Persang had one. The rear end raced the front end every where and won a lot . I’m 6’3” 220 lbs . It would flip you so fast.Got tired of coming home and something was broke. It was me not the bike. I still miss it.

Had a 71 250 Alpina, never had a bike since so light and nimble...

370cc Matador
I'd love to show up with a bundle of cash and buy two sweethearts. I want two nice Bultacos to ride around out in the sticks with my daughter.
Should have kept my tacos
