    Yet another great video Dave. I agree with you, Mayo is the best county 😜 Croagh Patrick is amazing on a clear day, The view over Clew Bay 's 365 Islands is a little bit of heaven. Thanks for the points 👍

      You’re right to be amazed…. But….
      I actually filmed that activation in September and only got to edit it over Christmas. 😬

      @@IrishHamRadio Now that makes a lot more sense! We got there late in the day and didn't go up, in Sept 2018. It was also a really nice day.

    Congratulations on your RUclips channel, which I just discovered today! I too am a huge fan of QRP (also a X6100 owner) and outdoor radio operations, and it's a shame you're not in Dublin because I would have definitely suggested doing some SOTA activations together! Ireland is beautiful, and as soon as I have a car, I'll definitely try to do some hikes with SOTA activations in your area as well. 73, EI4IDB / IU0DZR Tommaso

      Hi Tommaso,
      Thank you for the kind comment. 😊
      Yes hopefully you get your car soon and can get out to do some SOTA in Ireland! 👌🏻

    Nice to see the mountain and fair play and well done to all those that have worked on improving the access. Lots of hard work and dedication there. I love it.😊

    Thank you for taking the time to produce this video Dave. I'm planning a visit to Kerry for some activations and there are still many unanswered questions. Could I ask which maps you would use that show trails and what Garmin you are using?

    • @IrishHamRadio
      @IrishHamRadio  5 месяцев назад

      Hi Willie,
      For navigation is usually have my Garmin Fenix watch, but I also have a dedicated gps device (GPSMap 62s), which is quite old now.
      The official government maps are OSI, but in mobile phone apps like Outdoor Active & HiiKER, the Open Street Maps or even the maps by the app manufacturer often show trails that OSI does not.
      In Ireland although it is important to know your route, being prepared for the weather/potential weather is very important.

    Looks like a great hike Dave! I love how you go full Irish on 2m and back to your international accent on HF 😂
    The x6100 isn't a radio I know, but most radios I've had you have the RF gain at 100% . Do you think the AGC could be the issue?

    • @IrishHamRadio
      @IrishHamRadio  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hehe, just listened back and yeah theres a bit more "I tell ya" & "no bodder" on 2m!! 😂
      Not sure about the AGC... Ill try that with it at home to see if it makes a difference..
      Would like to figure it out as if you saw all the QSO footage you'd see me tunr uop and down the gain quite often depending on the station.. The radio volume is always at max.. (which is the odd number of 55 for some reason).

    What a nice summit that looks. It clearly has a decent take of for VHF as I don't think I've ever heard you work so many on 2m FM during an activation. On busy summits over here steps are popular too. I actually don't mind them but Natalie isn't too keen on them at all. All the best Dave. 73 Chris M0RSF

      Yep its a class summit and good take-off at the coast... I was definitely helped by the more prominent VHF community a little further south and west than I normally would be.

    Well done David, great guy for promoting the hobby.
    What is the handheld antenna Dave?
    I have climbed Croagh before, but as you said when the path was more broken, but would like to do it again this summer.
    I have some work on the vhf/uhf antennas to do, will listen out the next time, de Ei2iP

      Hi Robbie,
      Thanks as always 😃...
      The antenna is a dual bander "Comet SMA 24".. Has worked well for me and very light and flexible.

    Great video, thank you! Can I ask what you are using to log? Does it show the operator name automatically? M7SDO

    • @IrishHamRadio
      @IrishHamRadio  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hi James,
      Yep, I use HAMRS for portable logging when not using paper..
      It has SOTA and POTA templates and you cna link it to your qrz account so it gives you contact details…
      It’s available for windows, iOS and droid and the POTA template also works perfect for WWFF producing adif files that can be directly uploaded for same.

    Nice video Dave! What make/model 2m handheld radio have you?

    • @IrishHamRadio
      @IrishHamRadio  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thank You 😊..
      It’s an Anytone ATD878UV Plus. In my opinion the best 2m/70cm handheld out there for the money..
      Runs Analogue FM and DMR as well as APRS and can use Bluetooth PTT.
