I will never can apple pie filling again!! It was crazy messy.... would rather just have canned 🍏 apples. Agree with canned chicken it's the best!! I use for quick chicken salad or buffalo chicken pizza or dip!!
@@WS-by5cl similar experience. I won't repeat it because to me, if I have canned apples in a light syrup it's no big deal to make pie filling by adding sugar, spices, flour.
I agree with the peas. Try using the canned carrots I spaghetti sauce by pureeing up and mixing in the tomatoes kind of mask the carrots. It also add nutrients. Also be sure to rinse them once you pour out of the jar. Also maybe try using them in candied carrots. The added cinnamon helps with the flavor.
Our all time favorites are Mississippi pot roast, followed by chili, and then corned beef. We also enjoy having a variety of beans and broths on hand as a pantry staple.
I’m a new canner and love it! I’ve done meat, beans broth and meals in a jar and they’re great! I feel the same way with carrots too and won’t be doing them again.
Too funny. The reason I wanted a pressure canner was also the broth. Because I made it all the time and stuck in the freezer. Soon run out of any room for that. Also love having it ready to add to anything without having to defrost.
Same! Electric pressure canner was on my Christmas list for broth because my freezer is a mess with all the broth. I want to do enchilada sauce and sloppy joe sauce too because I make and freeze now.
Hi just an FYI I am subscribed to your channel but had to go looking for you because I had not been notified for awhile of any your videos. When I finally found you it showed I was subscribed and was surprised that you had just uploaded a video… but not been notified. Anyways just happy to have found your channel through memory!
I am so sorry this happened to you! I will be looking into this. Thank you for telling me! I am glad you found me again I hope this does not happen in the future!
I originally did the recipe out of a Ball Canning book, but over the years I have been changing it more and more to what I like. I have been really bad about writing stuff down over the years on what I do to change things/come up with things but, am trying to get better for the sake of being able to share what I do with you guys. I believe in the past I've used a California chili but I honestly don't remember. The All New Ball Book of canning and preserving has a good starter recipe. And next time I can up a new batch I will share what I do!
So wonderful you started canning this year! I have actually never tried canning collard greens. I did not grow up with that kind of canned food so I'm curious to try it someday!
I loved the idea of this video!! My favorites are raw packed chicken, broth, jam, cranberry juice and pickled beets. I am still trying to find good recipes for tomatoes (salsa, sauce and such). I’d also like to do barbecue sauce and I’d love for you to share your recipe! I agree with you on peas and carrots. I like the convenience of chopping, blanching and freezing carrots to easily add to soups instead of canning.
Have you tried adding tomato sauce to your enchilada sauce to make it less spicy. I started to do that and we like it thicker with more tomato sauce now with all our recipes. Hope you can use that up and find a recipe you love.
Spaghetti sauce is one of my favorite things to can. It’s fun to create the flavor and use the beautiful garden tomatoes and peppers. Applesauce is perhaps the most satisfying; my daughter loves it and I use it as a baking substitute often. It’s also a very beautiful color! Peach slices are also so beautiful. Messy though! My most recent foray is pressure canning chicken bone broth. For 12 years I have frozen my broth; just last year I started canning it and wow! What an easy thing to do and much easier to store. What recipe do you use for BBQ sauce? My husband makes small batch BBQ sauce and if I could can it for him that would be awesome!
I also love canning. Maybe its a hobby? Is feeding my family really my hobby? Anyway, canned carrots are horrible. Canned peas are horrible. BO\oth better frozen. I support you!
Jessica from Three Rivers Homestead makes a carrot souffle with canned carrots...maybe you want to check that out to use up those jars!
I love that idea! I might try that! Thank you!

I just cooked up my turkey and ended up with 5 gallons s of broth. Score!
@@TracieL1234 don’t you just love it!
@@NOVAFrugalFamily that’s what I want to do next. Enchilada sauce.
Great video! I also like having canned salmon on hand for lunches! Handy!
I have green salsa to use up! Bring on the pantry challenge ideas
Excited for the pantry challenge too!
Try a copper penny salad recipe.... And curried green beans, both South African recipes
Thank you for those suggestions! I am so curious to try them now that I've looked them up!
I bet that salsa verde would be good to brighten a chicken soup
Love that idea! Thank you!
Drain your carrots and then fry them in butter in a cast iron skillet. They are delicious that way!
I put that onion jam in rice, but I also don’t love the ball recipe
That's a great way to use it up! Thank you!
Toss your carrots in your fruit smoothies. You'll not taste them but you'll get some nice vitamins added.
Great idea! Thank you!

Your welcome. I loved the collaboration done a few years back about what I would and would not can again. it was so helpful.
Where did you get your recipe for your favorite enchilada sauce? What peppers did you use for the milder sauce?

Im new to canning I started in november of this area. I like canning bone broths, chicken, pork, collard greens, potatoes, and apple pie filling.

Thank you for sharing your favorites! I want to try cranberry juice! Yes, from now on I am freezing those things!!
Try pureeing the carrots and subbing them in an apple aside or pumpkin muffin
I love that idea! THANK YOU! I needed some ways to use them up!

I love that idea! I will be trying that. I usually add something like sour cream to calm it down a little! I like the thicker sauce better too.
