Reviewer did not realise the volume rockers are well placed for zoom buttons next to the camera button, and that the XZS with 820 has been shown to be faster than the 821 offerings from other companies.

One of the best reviews i have seen and very upright! Most American reviewers don't have a good knowledge about Sony's phones but this guy is an exception.
+Funk5Punk Thanks! I have used quite a few of Sony's flagships. As I'm in Canada, mainly units with fingerprint scanners, so this US unit came as a bit of a shock!

Still there is reason why it has thicker bezels. 1. It helps to chill down the phone. 2. It also helps to move the camera from the processor. 3. Its practical. And the volymbutton is mostly where it is because to be easier to use when the camera is used.
Actually, Sony has the least number bloatware apps comparing other companies like Samsung or LG have.. I actually use the AVG protection and it is a great app, it automaticlly scans everything you install both from the market or 3rd party apps, for example. Not everything they add is neccessarily useless...
+Vitali Riskin I just don't like when I have to go through and delete pre-loaded apps like the ones included that aren't Sony ones.
m I only person to like the placement of volume button because its easy to toggle when you are having a call.

I mostly love the speed, this phone is so snappy
I have the XZ and I like it however it's not perfect, actually far from perfect. A bunch of work needs to be done in order to make it compete with the latest flagships, excited about the XZ Premium though - nice job on the video, keep it up!

the fingerprint issue is a contract Sony made with verizon. it has nothing to do with sony not wanting to include it.
once the contract expires well see fingerprint on their US versions.
otherwise just buy the internation version its an easy fix.

Got this phone for 2 weeks and sold it.
Reasons :
- Battery life not enough for a day usage
- Camera recording overheating problem is frustrating (kills battery life too)
- Low front speakers sound
With all that fixed. This phone will definitely be a BEAST.

Still don't have the chance to try XZ premium. Would definitely check it out when it's available here in Malaysia! But i really wonder will it's 33xx mah battery enough for its display.

I wonder why people hate that sound button placement. For me its rrally a good place maybe becouse im left handed hand? But still most Japanese use phone on they left right or its only me? can it XZ premium record slow motion videos as 240fps
I bought this phone, and while I do notice a few stutters here and there, it's nothing to be very worried or alarmed about. However, when I was using the AR in the camera, it shut down due to overheating. The speakers are a bit on the weak side. When I lower them to 50%, I can barely hear them anymore. The battery though is a little underwhelming. I have found that I need to recharge around 2 or 3 times a day, and I barely use it for any length of time. It just drains too fast, unfortunately. Good thing it also recharges quickly. Also, the camera seems to always fail to initialize, making me have to restart the phone. I'm not impressed with the camera either, as it seems to have a hard time focusing so I always end up with blurry photos, especially with macro shots.
My xperia ZR also has that diagonal thing, but it only shows up when I'm charging in the dark. I'll take a picture of it soon.

The comment about the volume rocker position is very silly in my opinion. Have you ever really used a Sony with the rocker in tha position in ral life, for example during a phone call? That position is perfect if you need to tune the volume without changing the grip on your phone

Fingerprint scanner isnt too important to me, since ive never had one on my own phone, but if im paying that much money then its a turn off for me
The bottom chin is there to accommodate the hand when you use the camera key... Kindly devote an entire section of the review to it
Long story short, if you're upgrading from anything that's non-XZ, by all means. If you're upgrading from the XZ, get the XZ Premium, otherwise, stick with the XZ. It's not worth another couple hundred dollars just for the slow motion camera.

The design has outworn it's welcome long ago. Still waiting for something innovated in terms of design. Sony/Ericsson knocked it out of the part with the ARC. Be bold again Sony. I'm struggling to find any justification upgrading from my Z3.

If this phone is not perfect then the other phone are far from perfect because this phone get the best award at MWC 2017. Get the best because the competition is low? So why don't your favourite manufacturer send 1 to compete even sony brave enough get into competition with uncomplete version of product. Many of the reviewers gave false statement and I think this what affect Sony's sale, does anyone ever think if they are truly reviewers or just fake reviewers paid by Sony's competitors to put Sony down? Sony is the best product I've known so far, other product doesn't seem have any specialty but the outside something like bezelles, LED bright screen(which has so many issues) it doesn't bring any good. Comparing iPhone's camera with Sony's camera but they don't know that iPhone is using Sony's sensor for camera, that one of the examples. Stupid.
The design is a little bit too bulky for my taste but it seems a great phone. Anyway, with all these brands of phones on the market and technology that runs so fast over the next model and features why these phones are still so expensive???

Not Sony's fault that they can't have a fingerprint sensor on their phone, it's apples. They have a patent on it so Sony can't physically do it

Sony is in the red with Xperia but still make it for demo purposes leading their consumers by the nose in order to find market to sell the camera module. Up to now Iphone comes with Sony modules and Sony gets $20 after each sold Iphone. Sony ceased to be an electronic company in 2015. Jarl Ballin' how is the song Xperia xzs an average phone? No other phone right now have camera abilities like the xzs. Name me a phone that can do 960 fps slo mo. Name me a phone that has dual front facing stereo speakers that really feels like surround sound and I'm being really honest. Name me a phone that supports high resolution audio and can even up scale your average audio sample to high resolution audio. Does your one plus have water and dust resistant? There's so many features to justify the price of the Sony Xperia xzs and its an incredible phone and has a lot more to offer then your peasant one plus phone
1. Plenty of phones have stereo speakers (HTC 10, iPhone 7 etc.)
2. High resolution audio is a scam. If you actually knew the engineering behind audio compression and playback, you'd know.
3. Plenty of phones have water and dust resistance (S8, G6, iPhone7)
4. "Promised" Updates LOL
5. Who gives a fuck about PS4 connectivity
6. NOT Superior display - 1080p and older LCD NOT OLED
960FPS slow motion is good tho. Personally wouldn't pay top dollar for it, but what do I care, it's your money to waste...

Xperia z5 running nougat, amoled isn't superior. it is less sharp (pentile arrangement) display prone to burn-in and oneplus doesn't do jackshit in software side for noise-less image processing like x-reality or supervivid mode. Iphone or htc have stereo speakers, but it don't cost same as oneplus. s8 and ip7plus have water resistance but it doesn't cost same as oneplus.
You have included almost all the oems to speak negative about sony, while i just compared price and features of oneplus and sony alone. Next time, stick to the point.
My point was there are far better phones. High end phones such as S8, G6, iPhone 7 absolutely crush this and mid range phones such as One Plus 3T absolutely crush this in price and match the performance. So as I said, no point in buying this.
Next time, take off your fanboy cap and consider the facts...
