  • Its not a tornado, although in the moment it felt like something like that! Instead, a Derecho storm travelled 1000 km in Ontario May 2022. We are safe and so is the homestead, but there is a lot of clean up and it looks like we will be with out power for quite some time!
    Also, I swear twice in this video! #sorrynotsorry

    2:30 made me cry.
    "We're gonna have to get dressed and go check on our neighbors."
    Within seconds, she forgot about her plants, and was praying and thinking of other people.
    EVERYONE needs to learn from this example. 🥰🤗🙏
    I love your husband. "I'm not out there covering up the wood. You're more important."

    So glad you guys are alright. May I humbly suggest a root cellar for food preservation/storage that could double as a storm cellar. Some of my extended family that lived in more rural areas would head to their root cellars when the weather got cranky because most didn't have basements.

    When people have nothing better to do, they sit on social media, badmouth, and criticize others who put their lives for the world to view. I think it is admirable that you have gone out and started your lives from scratch. It is a tough life and a lot of work, but in the end you will have your own paradise away from the low I.Q. critics. The other thing is that it is easy to sit back and watch a situation when you do not feel the adrenaline or are swallowed up in the harrowing moment and make comments on people. Until you have lived through moments like that, you dont know. Thanks for sharing.

    I'm a storm lover too but we had one here where I live a few years ago (in a large city) where the wind was so bad I truly thought it was a tornado - it wasn't - and after the storm it was almost like the second coming when you went outside. Almost dead silence, trees down, absolutely zero traffic on any of the streets because there was no way to get anywhere anyway... I just kept looking around at all of the destruction and feeling so thankful that these little piggies were in a brick home and (As far as I know) there were no serious injuries other than property damage for quite a few people. You sounded like me trying desperately to stay positive when you said that you were wanting to clear those trees anyway so now there's just less to cut down 😂. In times like these you have to laugh or you'll just start crying and never stop, and that doesn't do any good.
    Watching you guys walk down the road reminded me of that storm and how quiet and desolate everything was... And then? Good people come out to help good people! No worries about who owes who or who has more than someone else... Just grab your chainsaw and your tractors and get to work! So glad everyone's okay 😊.

    I am glad you are all okay. I was in South Dakota when that storm came through. It was amazing how fast that storm appeared. We went from sunny skies to hunkering in shelters in about 15 minutes. This is what happens when you clear out a large area of trees in a heavily wooded area. You leave a bunch of top heavy trees out in the open. I'll never understand why people do this tbh. Just build in an open area and plant trees if you want to any privacy. Not to mention all the construction damages the roots of nearby trees which will later die off.

    • @MiAnUAcres
      @MiAnUAcres  2 года назад

      Well if you know our journey at all you know that this is the plan. Not to mention what happened here is a first, so 🤷‍♀️ less than one year ago, this was all forest and we did a pretty good job by hand. All in all the wind helped up take trees down that were planned to come out anyways. Not to mention this storm was 1000 KM long and nasty. So the damage you see, isnt just on our property but everywhere around here!

      @@scrambles2052 lol trees growing in thick areas grow fast to keep up with the sunlight. They don't have the chance to grow strong. The time of year that this storm hit also doesn't help. You have the wet, soft ground, but also all the added weight of the new growth. If you want to.. for some reason, build your house in the middle of a heavily wooded area, then have fun. But I'm not gonna show sympathy if your house has a couple trees on it in the next storm lmao.

    Wow, freaky! We had a storm like that a few years ago, I've never been more scared. A tree fell on the bus and broke the window. Blew the emergency vent off. I was trying to drive out but there were trees down. I had to drive over a tree to get to our neighbors place. The wind was blowing down the mountain, instead of east/west off the lake and the trees weren't used to that direction. Omg and it was dark just before day break too. Glad you are safe and no major damage, such a shame about the big pine. Maybe you can mill it into boards for in thr house

    Love you!!! And I know some of your French!!!😂 Just had a storm like that in Tenn about a week ago. Strong straight line winds with down drafts behind it (a guy told me) But I was I a house!!! Gees!! Bless you!!! When we build here, we were like you guys, we built in the middle of no where and build everything by ourselves. Took like 3 years. But others found our nick of Paradise and it’s more built up now. In Dec of 2016, my home was heavily damaged by an EF3 tornado. I’m not able to rebuild, so oh well!🥴I lost so many huge beautiful trees in the storm, you guys be creative and don’t let your downed trees go to waste. Mine did. My (ex now!!) had no vision whatsoever, and although he did cut the largest, and when I say largest, these were oak trees so big3 of them it took 3 people standing around them, wrapping their arms around the tree to reach all the way around it! I live on a river, and these trees was very old, and had grown so big. I actually grieved more over the trees then I did my house oddly. Anyway, those trees were just piled up and rotted, what wasn’t burned. So sad. But one day, a new earth… maybe I’ll have my trees back!!! Yes yes, I know, weird thinking!! But it comforts me!! God bless you, and I’d like to follow you guys. Do you have a regular channel???
